  • Were you aware of a controversial new proposal to tax people's driveways? A Driveway Tax?! Turns out not many know about it, so I decided to do this video, but then discovered ‪@GeoffBuysCars‬ terrifically passionate video on the same topic, except in it he highlighted a stunningly shocking comment article from the Evening Standard.
The column unfairly labels petrolheads as right-wing climate deniers and more! I’ll break down the proposed tax, its implications, and why this narrative is both misleading, damaging and blatantly incorrect.
I’ll also address how car culture is being unjustly targeted and the broader implications for motorists and homeowners. Let’s set the record straight on what this tax means for everyday Londoners.
Whether you’re a car lover or just curious about this hot topic, this video offers a balanced perspective on the paving tax debate.
Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more insights on motoring, policies, and how they affect us all.

As I commented on Geoff's channel: So you'll need a driveway to charge up your EV in post ICE 2035, and pay tax on that EV, tax on it being a 40k plus car, tax on congestion, tax on the air, and now a tax on the driveway....whatever the problem is, magical taxation will fix it.

So, you pay more money to park off-road or you add to roadside parking congestion. It's just a further attack on the motorist with the idea of poorer people being priced out of or frustrated enough to give up on car ownership. Freedom of movement only for those who can afford it. And those that can't and complain are labelled in the worst possible ways.
They attack capitalism while only successful capitalists will be able to ignore the added costs. They attack men while ignoring that private car ownership improves passenger safety, which arguably benefits women more than men. They attack men while ignoring the large number of women petrolheads and that most car buying decisions are now made by women. Etc etc etc!

WHERE do you find an evening standard? I haven’t seen one in years.
Shazad is as polite as ever, and FAR less confrontational than I. I have been incensed by state overreach since Bliar was brought to power in ‘97. When that “man” began taxing our energy bills to “subsidise” the development of “renewable” energy. Those buzzwords were designed to obtain public compliance while the parasites in office were WELL aware the tax wouldn’t do ANYTHING to develop “renewables”. The government then, now, and in between are well aware they are LYING to their electorate. The state want total compliance from the people who pay their wages. It is ALL about POWER AND CONTROL. Shazad rightly observes how ordinary people are bled dry by politicians and bureaucrats they are meant to nurture and protect. And for thirty years they have done the exact opposite, using the climate hysteria to oppress humanity and humanities behaviour because these parasites get off on exercising power.
In 1951, after bestowing the country with a NHS, social security system and various other bribes to voters with their own money, the Labour party were voted out for the next decade and more. Why? Although it’s not covered by Wikipedia, the Labour Party insisted on not abolishing rationing, preferring to rub the people’s noses in their power. This is what we are experiencing now with the attack on personal mobility, with political and bureaucratic elites preferring taxpayers and subjects to brave stabbings and robberies on public transport, wasting our time when time is money for hardworking TAXPAYERS.

That's crazy. As an American I haven't any standing to comment on it really but I'm gonna anyway lol. I'm shocked mostly that they would introduce this and not grandfather in those that were already paved over, except I guess there aren't many left to pave over in London so it would include almost everyone maybe? Seems to me the article is quite telling, indeed revealing the real reason for the measure - an attempt to have more anti-automobile, anti-freedom fascistic control over regular folks. All the more reason to get the hell out of our big cities, they're going to hell in a hand-basket.

It all stems from when Sadiq specifically said that anti-ULEZ protesters were "aligning themselves with the extreme right" at a public meeting in March 2023. I`ve literally had these accusations aimed at me several times during arguments about ULEZ online, despite the fact my Dad is an immigrant, my kids are mixed race, & the majority of my friends aren't white or English, & I`ve always been a left wing socialist politically.. Its a level of "divide & rule" politics from Sadiq that is ironically more common from the extreme right, & its precisely what has caused me to withdraw ALL support from Labour in the last few years..
The motorway & road blocking, as you say, led to an extremely dangerous situation for emergency services, caused massive levels of inconvenience to millions of people, made people miss critical appointments, including medical appointments they`d been waiting for for months, & sometimes even years, caused missed flights, caused missed funerals, stopped people getting to family members on their death beds, stopped doctors, nurses, surgeons, firemen, policemen, social service workers to be late & even miss work completely, so yes, the punishment DOES fit the crime.
