Love clothes tracking haha! I've been tracking my clothes for almost three years now. I use a simple google sheets document, so I dont track outfits, rather just the individual items. For me it started out from a sustainability point of view, to see how many times I actually wore an item (apparently you can think you've used an item every other day but in reality only ten times that season 😅), but it has expanded a bit since then and now I also use it to inform my decisions on what to buy and possible decluttering. I divide my tracking into summer/winter for simplicity, but depending on how many clothes you own I suspect a spring and autumn season makes sense as well. I've kept track of the items i've decluttered too and it has drastically reduced over the years which I'm very pleased with! Some people that ive met think this tracking is borderline obsessive, but honestly I love it as a part of my commuting routine 😅
Thank you so much for sharing Elisabet! I used to track my wears on notion, but stopped after about a year because it stopped being enjoyable. This kind of app makes it fun again! I can see how tracking the wears gives you a lot of data all on its own. I too have thought I wear something every day. Yeah... 10 times. The reality check is necessary sometimes 😂
This was so cool! Love a fashion video for you. My friend has been doing this for YEARS and talks about how useful it is but the amount of time it would take to log everything is super offputting to me. I think partially it's because it wouldn't just be the initial input, but also the upkeep - I bring a lot of clothes into my life frequently, and often they don't stick around for long (because of clothing swaps etc) so I just don't want to put the time in. But wish someone else would do it for me haha
You make a great point. You're in your clothing swap era and it would be super tedious to have to update it often. It's not so bad if you can take all your photos at once and then update the app. I did that 2 weeks ago for about 15 items and it took about 45 mins. But, it is still annoying. I brought out my spring clothes last week and haven't taken the photos yet
I use whering and it’s so fun! I don’t care as much about outfit recommendations so that one is my favorite. It totally helps me not shop bc I can just scroll through the cute clothes I already have!
I downloaded OpenWardrobe not that long ago and started with pants and found out that I’m actually a flared pants girly. I love flared pants but didn’t realize that I have that many when I put all categories of pants together (like jeans, dressier pants, light fabric ones and leggings). I also recently tried on all of my clothes and I feel like I have quite a big "summer wardrobe" for someone who lives in a 4 season climate. LOL But I can make a lot of those pieces work with layering and thermo tights for other seasons.
I’ve been tracking my outfits for 5 years now and have added pyjamas and sportswear in the new year too (those categories were getting bloated so i wanted to see how much i was really using every piece). It’s now second nature, I either add my outfit on my commute or as soon as I get to work. At first it was to make better purchase decisions, then to make sure I was using my clothes « enough » before discarding them, and now that I’ve been doing it for so long, it’s just a habit even if I don’t check the stats as often. One thing I wish I did is to keep the decluttered item in the app and tagging them as decluttered (same with worn out pieces) to actually see how much have rotated during those 5 years. I only see the curated survivors and it’s not an accurate representation of my consumption. To add the items at first, I just added them as I wore them or bought them, until there were just a few left. It was less overwhelming this way, though I didn’t get to see the real stats quickly.
I love this! Adding in decluttered features would also in some more interesting stats. How many times did you wears something before it was decluttered, how many things have been decluttered over the course of any given year.
Oh I love tracking my wardrobe! I take OOTD pics and keep a log; I also track the pieces I wear in a spreadsheet and then update my pieces in Open Wardrobe at the end of every month to calculate cost per wear. Tbh I mostly just care about CPW, but I’ll occasionally check to see which pieces have the highest CPW and make them focuses for the following month. The stats are interesting. Would be curious to see how the percentage of black pieces you own compares to your utilization of those pieces-because maybe it’s fine if you wear all those black items, you know? 🤷🏻♀️
I'm just a few days shy of a month of tracking and it's engrained itself as a hobby already. I agree with you that it's so fun because I love tracking mine too! You bring up an excellent suggestion to see how much utilization the black pieces get. Black currently makes up 28% of my wardrobe, but there's no way to see their usage stats beyond something manual. It might be worth the effort to do after a full quarter.
I decided to do this today with my wardrobe to work on using up all my clothes and its already helped me find clothes I want to wear but forgot about by having it all in one place so this was very helpful
oooh I didnt know about these apps! Sounds perfect to be able to visualize my outfits! Ever since I learned about my aphantasia I been looking for more ways to visualize! This will be so helpful!
That's amazing. I had no idea there was such an app. Wardrobes are complicated for me for some reason, I can't decide how to build a wardrobe, by season, by style, by formal or casual ... by event... where to start... by color? Do you start with what you have or from scratch then cross off what you have from what you need. This goes right to how DO you decide what piece to buy... what piece to pass on and what piece will be a wonderful, surprising addition when you fall in love with it at the store... such a good video! I relate.
I think a good place to start is with clothes you love to wear or your most worn pieces. Ask yourself those questions and lay down the items that come to mind on your mind and keep going from there. You can also outfit log for a few weeks to see what you're actually wearing. You can do that by adding in your clothes to an app like this or just by taking photos. It can help teach you what you're wearing so you can use that info to build a wardrobe. I wouldn't get too hung up on colours or buying new things. Use what you have and see how you feel about it.
I have ACloset too!! I didn’t realize it had that many stats!! I obviously haven’t used much lol😅 I mostly love the outfit creation and logging aspect. It’s also Good to know that as long as I keep pieces under 100, it remains free 😊Thank you for this video!! Awesomesauce!!! 🎉❤😊
the outfit logging and creation is a really fun part of the app! When i was considering buying something from poshmark I put the photo in the app to see how I'd style it with what I already had. It was really fun!
I used acloset too, until one day it wouldn't let me look at my closet or do anything in the app until I paid 120usd! (Which is around $150 cdn). I was like, fine, I'll delete the clothing in the app until I get under the 100 item limit. Nope. Wouldn't let me delete the clothing either. So now I'm using Wearing. No limit, no charge.
I may give this a try… i have a number of pieces but most of them dont fit me anymore and I wear the same handful all the time (cuz they fit me). I had way more but did a declutter few months back. The ones that I kept are more realistically possible to fit me again in the near future so I decided to keep them. I have been avoiding to buy new since I gained weight (during covid) so my clothes are mostly 4 years+ old at this point.
You can try seeing if there is a clothes swap in your area, that can be a way to declutter and get new things in a very affordable way. I go to one every few months which is also a free event.

My phase of life right now is jeans and cycling through 7 different colors of the same exact shirt each week. 😂

you're the first person who I've heard using whering! I'm so glad you enjoy it!!! The wardrobe feature is one I wish Acloset had
@@shawnaripari I also really like the colorful interface! It seems more fun 😂

Totally downloaded an app to track my wardrobe! Thank you for this idea, it is so much fun❤
Interesting way to track what you wear. I had not heard of these before this video 🎉
I hadn't either! Acloset is way more popular than I realized and there are other options too if it's not your jam. It's been a lot of fun!
Such an interessing project. Great distraction, I need one too. I did a sudoku capsule plan, but with images and stats would be more fun
I had to go look this up! This sounds like a really fun way to put together short term capsules

clothing swaps are really fun! You also deserve to have clothes that fit you right now 💗
I’m also realizing that I have complicated relationship with black clothing
Unfortunately, ACloset is not free anymore if you have more than a 100 clothes
