  • Hey everyone :)
I needed a stitching pony but the ones I saw online were always too tall for my taste. I like stitching and working on leathercraft projects on my small desk. So naturally, I built one and recorded the process!
I'm pretty satisfied with how this came out and can't wait to try it out with some new leatherwork. What do you think?
As always, thank you for watching. I'd be very happy about some comments, likes, and even new subscribers if you did like the video - and if not your opinions are still greatly appreciated. Have a great day, everyone.

Thank you for a nice build and lovely video with soothing music :) I have a little comment- early on when the first small block was glued/screwed to the larger base, the wood grain direction for these two pieces was perpendicular; I suggest making them parallel to combat issues with expansion/contraction of the wood. Cross grain movement is more than movement along the grain; so when two pieces face glued together have the grain in the same direction, they move with each other. It might not matter; the piece is small, but pine can move a lot, and depending on humidity changes in your work space, it might matter. Anyhow, I will build one similar to yours, thanks!

I built one similar but I put a hinge at the bottom of the arm of the stitching pony that is not attached at the base so that one side can pivot out to loosen the jaws. Great video!

Nice build! I did something very similar. If I may offer two suggestions: I made my base long enough that I can sit on it if I want to do my stitching away from the work bench. I also put a washer between the carriage bolt head and upright as well as between the upright and the knob to keep them from biting into the wood. I look forward to your next video!
