      Great job from a technical perspective, but one can see that you haven't used one much yourself. The issue with a knob placed that far up the pony is that it results in the thread getting caught around the knob unless you're careful.
      You can get around that by angling the pony while stitching or using different mechanics here.

      @@sengelhard2982 you're right, i don't have much experience and it's right what you say ... i will use it a little and if there are too many problems i will build a different one😁. Thank you for your time

      The other thing to think about is the colour of the leather you have used at the end of the clamp... A darker colour like this may leave marks on lighter leathers.
      Otherwise it's a very nice job...

    • @rustywood5614
      @rustywood5614  2 года назад +3

      Yes, this is true, but i discovered too late!
      Unfortunately I had to give away my creation 🧑‍🎄, or better my friend stole it...
      When I can I will make a new better one and i will put it in the safebox, but at the moment I am very busy and my workshop is about 0 degree 🥶.... I need to wait a little.
      Thanks for your suggestion and interest!

    Thank you for sharing your amazing project. Last winter I made two from my scrap lumber pile. They were both built to set between your legs on the chair as you stitch, one had a fixed base the other a swivel. I do most of my stitching sitting so this works best for me. I showed them to my brothers and they liked them and I gave them away. I had used one of them some and it made my leather stitching easier. I gave the other one away and then I made a rifle scabbard and needed one. After the scabbard was completed I decided I really needed a stitching pony so I built another one with a swivel base. I was able to do a couple of things differently that makes it work a little better. The only things I purchased was the spring and a wing nut, all the rest of the project came from stuff I have salvaged or kept from other projects. For the magnets, I just drilled a hole in the edge of the upright and mounted them flush. I like your way better, but I had never seen it before. Also I really like the way you made the round handles, on my first ones they didn't have the indents. I figured how to make them kind of like yours, but they aren't as pretty. This project reminds me of what my 80-year-old friend said, "sometimes figuring out how to do this is just as important as completing the whole project." Once again, thank you for sharing!

      many thanks for your nice words. The compliments from someone who has already built a similar project make me very proud. I'm happy to have given you new ideas, all of which could be improved, but I also started from scratch and used my imagination while building. when I started I didn't have very clear ideas and I had to invent as I went along, which is the part I like most about this hobby. Thankyou

      Many people use plywood, at first I also wanted to use it, but then I used what I found in my workshop and I am very satisfied with the result and its strength. Thanks for your interest

      @@rustywood5614 Hi there ! You surely can say it !
      As a matter of fact, I'm right now making one with my skills (I'm an old mechanic)... also because, in the same time, I'm making a leather rear pocket man wallet.
      Also this one without templates (my ideas) but I must admit I watched many YT vid.
      Stay healthy 💪👍 greetings from 🇨🇭
