- This is how I made a small stitching pony with little money and quite a lot of work.
I had a lot of fun building it, and the result is fantastic

#stitching pony, #Rusty Wood
I am not into leatherworking atm, but when the winter comes I have to be ready!
Please share your thought about my job and maybe subscribe, thanks for watching!
Great job from a technical perspective, but one can see that you haven't used one much yourself. The issue with a knob placed that far up the pony is that it results in the thread getting caught around the knob unless you're careful.
You can get around that by angling the pony while stitching or using different mechanics here.
@@sengelhard2982 you're right, i don't have much experience and it's right what you say ... i will use it a little and if there are too many problems i will build a different one😁. Thank you for your time
The other thing to think about is the colour of the leather you have used at the end of the clamp... A darker colour like this may leave marks on lighter leathers.
Otherwise it's a very nice job...
Yes, this is true, but i discovered too late!
Unfortunately I had to give away my creation 🧑🎄, or better my friend stole it...
When I can I will make a new better one and i will put it in the safebox, but at the moment I am very busy and my workshop is about 0 degree 🥶.... I need to wait a little.
Thanks for your suggestion and interest!
Great gob
That’s a beautiful and proper stitching pony! A lot of work… but the results are outstanding.
Thankyou very much for your appreciation!
OLD LEATHER SMITH here, very nice job, excellent work. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
Thank's a lot, I appreciate it
Wonderful piece of work.
Thankyou
A BEAUTIFUL PERFECT PIECE OF ART.
Thankyou
Beautiful looking I made one you sit on the Tandy leather store manager called it a stitching horse lol I left it at his store about 6 weeks and told them to use it ,and received input about so I rebuilt the clamps based on that and looking at antique ones now it needs accessories and a cushion to sit on.
Hi, I would like to make a stitching horse too for a friend who ask me, but (fortunately) I am busy at work now and didn't have the time to do nothing... Maybe in the autumn I can dedidicate to my hobby!
good work
Thanks
Simply beautiful
Thankyou
Amazing. Beautiful, quite a work of art.
Thank you very much, I'm glad that you like it
Beautiful work!
But I just need a simple one. Thanks for the video.

thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video
Excellent work.keep it up
Thank you, your support is really appreciated
Magic bro
Thx!
that is good
Thanks
Beautiful but... you didn't make the spring yourself ;)
I'm thinking of making one, so I tried to understand your system at 13:24... is there something that prevents the handle from being disassembled when you unscrew to completely open the stitching pony's jaw ? Merci
Ahahah I am sorry about the spring....
No there is nothing to prevent that, you just need to take care a little....
Thanks for your support!
Nice work
Thankyou, happy that you like it!
nice job carry on
Thank you
Very Nice
Good job
Thank you
Grandfather always said, "Go Big or Go out to the pasture…" you sir, went BIG! Beautiful work of art there!
Thankyou very much for your appreciation and your support! Glad you like it
👍👍👍
Thx
I want to buy
Price?
Thanks for your interest, but I built this stitching pony for myself to use and I am not interested to sell it. If you really want to buy one, you can find some great products online even if they are quite expensive. I would reccomend You to try to build one yourself, it may not be beautiful or perfect but it will work well and you will like more than one purchased.👍
detailed plans, please
I have no plans, it was built freehand, sorry!
Did you ever make a plan for this wonderful pony? I'd love to make one and not have to redesign all the dimensions so it folds perfectly the first time. Really like the dowels to add strength to those little tabs.
I'm sorry but I did it freehand, looking at the design of the commercial ones.
Thanks for your time
@@rustywood5614 was there anything the Mrs would have liked that you didn't do?
Turned out nice, but you really overcomplicated it.
Thank you for sharing your amazing project. Last winter I made two from my scrap lumber pile. They were both built to set between your legs on the chair as you stitch, one had a fixed base the other a swivel. I do most of my stitching sitting so this works best for me. I showed them to my brothers and they liked them and I gave them away. I had used one of them some and it made my leather stitching easier. I gave the other one away and then I made a rifle scabbard and needed one. After the scabbard was completed I decided I really needed a stitching pony so I built another one with a swivel base. I was able to do a couple of things differently that makes it work a little better. The only things I purchased was the spring and a wing nut, all the rest of the project came from stuff I have salvaged or kept from other projects. For the magnets, I just drilled a hole in the edge of the upright and mounted them flush. I like your way better, but I had never seen it before. Also I really like the way you made the round handles, on my first ones they didn't have the indents. I figured how to make them kind of like yours, but they aren't as pretty. This project reminds me of what my 80-year-old friend said, "sometimes figuring out how to do this is just as important as completing the whole project." Once again, thank you for sharing!
many thanks for your nice words. The compliments from someone who has already built a similar project make me very proud. I'm happy to have given you new ideas, all of which could be improved, but I also started from scratch and used my imagination while building. when I started I didn't have very clear ideas and I had to invent as I went along, which is the part I like most about this hobby. Thankyou
Wow! The amount of care and attention to detail you put into this is simply amazing. It turned out beautiful, and it looks like you ended up with a really good stitching pony too. Wish I had the skills to pull something like this off.
thank you very much for your appreciation, I am glad you enjoyed this project
A beautiful job - when you have all those nice machines to do it with...
At first I thought you were going overboard with project, but on completion IT'S A TECHNICAL MASTERPIECE!
Thank You very much for your appreciation, I really appreciate it
The simplest pony costs $25 now not to including shipping. So, you did fine. Especially if you have some half decent scrap wood and unused parts around.
It's a lovely piece of kit, isn't it? I've picked up some great ideas for when i make my own.
I'm sure i could build one exactly the same if i had a workshop full of machines at my disposal. Unfortunately, i haven't. 😔
Nice finished piece & you're talent is amazing; but there are too many electric tools (most people won't have) & too many little parts.
That looks really nice, but don’t you think maybe a little over kill with the build process. I’m surprised that you didn’t go out and mine your own rare earth magnets. Lol. Do the hardware stores near you not sell hardware or nuts and bolts.
😂😂😅Can't stop laugh... Yes they sell nuts and bolts, until you are not searching for specific things. I can also buy a stitching pony online, but building it yourself is part of the fun.
Superior work. Your shop is excellent. It looks like you've spent a lot of time designing. It sure pays off, when you pay attention to detail like you have. Thanks for the video I really enjoyed it.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it and I'm glad you understand that behind every project there is a lot of work and care. Many times I don't care about the result (and the video I'm shooting ...), because it's just my hobby, I love doing it and I do it first for myself. Thanks again, your comment is really appreciated
Hello. Factories for sale? I need one like this please. thank you
WoW
Your gonna loose a finger the way you move around that table saw blade
This is beautiful, the worksmanship and skill you put into this is wonderful.
Thank you so much 😁
At the risk of sounding rude... "Shut up and take my money!" It's a really wonderful piece of art. Congratulations
Ahahah thank you for your appreciation!
way too overthought and overly complex of a build. Nice try but I think it's shit.
I understand what you mean, sure is way too much complex, but hey, I do for myself and I had a very good time making it!
Is it for sale?
Hello, I'm sorry but that's not for sale, is just my hobby! Thanks for your interest
Wow! Nice job. As suggested in the comments it just need a couple tweaks and would be perfect. Unfortunately, with my skill level and current tool collection, I am only able to make the first one with the rubber band 😅
😂😂ahahahah! Why do you say that!? try to build one, maybe simplier and without haste and maybe you will find that you can do it! 👍🏻
Beautiful piece! The magnets were a Brilliant touch!
impeccable! how's the leatherworking coming?
all hobbies are stopped, I don't have time to do anything right now... But thank you for your interest! 🙂
Bravo!!! Not only well made, but gorgeous. It will make leatherwork all that more enjoyable. Ingenious to put the magnet in to hold the needles. It was a pleasure watching your precise work methods. I love a craftsman that takes the time to do it right. Have fun with your new craft!
Thank You very much for your appreciation and your support. I'm glad that you liked my work!

Best stitching pony I have ever seen 🤩 Made with so much attention to detail, the magnet on the side is awesome. Congratulations, really great work! Video is already in my Playlist 👍🏻 Greetings from Austria
Thank you very much for your appreciation, I am glad to hear that you liked my work!
Now you have a way to sew the sheaths for the knives you make. Excellent work my friend. Keep it up and God bless you.
Thankyou for your interest. I have a thousand project to make and a million skill that I wish to learn. One by one I will 😁
Great job Sir! Thank you for share. I'll do it in the future with a mix of Iron and wood.
Glad you like, you wont regret to do it yourself
Nice solution to a vexing problem. Elegant, to boot. Ever thought about steaming wood to bend it and building a traditional stitching clam ?
Pleas help me. Berapa ukuran panjang dan lebar kayunya?
Hello and sorry for the delay. The wood is 1,6 cm. thick and 6 cm. wide. The length of the arms is 24 cm. I hope it can help you.
Cannot understand, sorry
Muchas gracias hermoso trabajo!!!:)
Hi,

Hi, you can buy online something like mine or you can build one yourself! For me is just an hobby and i don't sell that. Thank you
I want one just like it, he makes it for me. ??

This is absolutely fantastic. How much do you want for one? I want this
Thankyou for your interest but i cannot sell, it's just an ho by for me and i have no time at all right now. Thanks again
@@rustywood5614 Ya that's cool man. I don't get much time myself to explore hobbies but some time off is coming up so i'm wanting to get into making watch straps.
LOVE this Stitching Pony. Hope all is well for you and yours brotherman. Taker easy
Very nice and detailed job! I just want to start to make one. Can you please share the rough dimensions of the parts, eg. width and length of the clamps/arms? Thanks! Cheers!
Incredible piece of art and skills
Thank you very much
Rusty wood plz make it for me you make it very durable I'm from Pakistan..
I am sorry, it's just an hobby for me and it's very time consuming. You see everything in 10 min. but I need maybe all my free time for 2 weeks to make that. try to make one by yourself, maybe it will be not perfect but surely you will be proud of it! thanks for your interest
@@rustywood5614 yes you're right I'll try my best to do this..
@@rustywood5614 and by the way thanks for giving me a nice response.. Thank you.
@@muhammadwajid1735 You're welcome

Wel, after seeing that, I’m off to my WoodShop!

Well done
😂thanx
BEAUTIFUL work of functional ART! Thanks for sharing! SUBBED!
Greetings from, Oregon! 🌲🌲🌲🌲
Thank you very much, I'm glad that you like it!
Nice, I need to build one and you have given me great ideas. I won't be putting in the magnets. I find that when tools stick to everything on the bench it becomes very annoying. (i.e. stuck to a hammer that I have moved three times while looking for it. )
i know what you are talking about.... Magnet are not fundamental, is just something more... Happy my video give you some inspiration 🙂
Why use soft wood?
It's what I had at home and it was an experiment...
Finding serious wood isn't very simple here and soft wood is still more than enough!
Que nivel de detalles!!! WOW

Muchas gracias
I like this video!
Thank you
Like the design and craftsmanship but l believe I would have used plywood on the parts that the clamp is made of.nice job non the less
Many people use plywood, at first I also wanted to use it, but then I used what I found in my workshop and I am very satisfied with the result and its strength. Thanks for your interest
Beautiful work. I finally understood the convenience of burying the magnets.
Glad you liked it.
Yes, having the magnets buried is sometimes very convenient to use. 😉

A tool, and a functional work of art. Liked, subscribed, notices turned on.
Thankyou very much, your support is really appreciated!
Well... you surely gave me the right input about making by my self a wooden vise❗
Even without templates I surely can figure out how to do , many thanks 😁
Making one yourself is the best choice you have, you will surely be much more satisfied than buying one. Glad I inspired you, have fun!
@@rustywood5614 Hi there ! You surely can say it !
As a matter of fact, I'm right now making one with my skills (I'm an old mechanic)... also because, in the same time, I'm making a leather rear pocket man wallet.
Also this one without templates (my ideas) but I must admit I watched many YT vid.
Stay healthy 💪👍 greetings from 🇨🇭
