I’m guilty of spending more time on the products & color theory than the actual painting. It’s one of those things you don’t realize you’re doing until someone tells you, so thank you for that and for another informative video.
So many people seem to get caught up in every hurtle possible, when they just need to keep moving. I find myself improving quickly as I try to move faster. I can get more volume of pieces painted if I move faster, making me get more practice in the limited time I have for art. Which paper? Is my brush good? Do I have the right paint? Are my skills enough? None of these things really matter untill you've gotten in the practice. Paint a thousand pieces of trash and then worry about what brand of paper you should use for a final project.
I agree with you. I’ve studied in a top art school, but I’ve never heard of ‘swatching’. You learn as you paint and as you make mistakes. Period! RUclips university has shown me a lot of things I wasn’t even aware of like the use of masking gum. These are good resources, but you as an artist you need to understand when and how to use tricks and tips.
Very good advice. There is nothing like just doing it. I think the practice sessions are important. As a beginner, I went straight into painting pictures and when something went wrong, I had invested a lot of time in something that was then thrown away. It felt like a waste of time. If you get into the mindset that you are just doing practice pieces that will be thrown away anyway, it loosens you up and you become more inventive. Sometimes something appears that is worth keeping. The one thing I found useful studying theory was the "colour wheel" which shows opposite colours that are complimentary and zing together, such as red and green, yellow and purple. I still find when doing a painting that I have some scrap paper I try the colours on first. I guess as I get more experienced I won't need to do that.
Great advice, this is absolutely true. I've been discovering this in my own painting, so I try to learn by experience. I get ideas and tips from the theory, which are helpful, but it only starts to make sense after doing many paintings and making many mistakes too.
Thank you for this video. I know I could do all these things you say. The roadblock that I've come to realize that's holding me back is drawing. I have tried (maybe not as hard as I should have) to learn it. I've even tried to do it loosely like a loose sketch. My problems are with depth of field and cemetery. Honestly, just about anything I try to draw looks like a 2-year-old did it. If I could just draw, I could sing.
Oh yes I know, and this is something I’m trying my best to explain all beginners to focus on first. Very soon I’m going to create a new video based on some research around, keep an eye on it! Till then hold one HB6 pencil and start scribbling 👍
@@NitinSinghwatercolorpaintings A thousand thanks to you Nitin Ji.. There is no useful video on this topic on You Tube. You're video can fill this gap I know. So I request you.
Excellent video as always, thank you. I always wondered the other artist on some RUclips videos why use they the left mixed colors from their palette, about after 2,5 half year painting and practice I have understood, hahahaha :)))
Holaaaaa!!.
Namaskaar 🙏 .. Sir .. Behtar hoga ki aap jo bhi tips batate hai wo hamari matra -bhasha hindi mein samjhaye .. Jis se zyada logo ko samajhne mein asaani hogi .. Sab logo ko toh english samajh aati nahi hai ..
Hello Nitin Saheb. RUclips per bohat saray artists hain jo angraizi main watercour tutorials datay hain, laik aap ki apni zuban main kitnay aap jaisay talented artists hongay jo aap ke apnay logon ki help ker saktay hongay. Bohat cum I'm sure. How about you do subtitles in Hindi for your own people who do not understand English? Or voice over on existing videos? It would be just a little bit more work but imagine how many more people will benefit from you. Just an idea. An admirer of your work from Lahore. Best wishes and dua.

Your video title claims you have a 'formula' for colour mixing. Did you mean you have advice for learners? I agree that trying different combinations of colours and different water levels all change the colour and the effect, and that trial and error help us learn. There is no substitute for experience. But advice isn’t a formula and it is not scientific, so I think your title is misleading. I am disappointed because I didn’t learn anything from your video that with my limited experience I didn’t already know.

You have got it every thing right here, yes this is all one need to focus on. I really don’t understand why people so passionate about art materials.
I am just figuring this part out. A ton of bad paintings later i have learned a lot and see improvement but i did have trouble getting going.
