I was one of those Stanford University students in the 1970s, so Cliveden House became my home for six months. I used to take one of the woodland walks, allowing me to arrive at Nashdom Abbey next to Taplow, so I was in this wonderful world for my 20 year of life! I'll never forget arriving early & having the House to myself the first night, listening to the woodland birds & hoping no ghosts appeared behind one of the suits of armor!
I was there in the summer of 1977, for Stanford's Comparative British and American Legal Systems. The students mostly lived in the servants' quarters. However, I spent a lot of time in London, studying (honestly!). And, seeing amazing West End productions for pennies. But, I think that I do remember a pub called the Feathers, right? We also had a HUGE party reenacting the Profumo scandal.
Thank you, Kind Sir. This is how RUclips presentations should be... devoid of the 'fluff' of editing. Just a visual treat with loads of information. Good day to you!
The National Trust recommended walking route to Cliveden is from Bourne End Station. See their Web Site. Your video is very good. (I have been to Cliveden many times: love the place)
Not exactly. Some female Sinn Feiner was elected in 1918, but refused to attend - it was all got up as an attention seeking device for some protest or other. Your Virginian was the second woman elected. She did attend. Note they are always careful to say ‘She was the first woman to take her seat in Parliament’.
Slowly working my way through your videos. Very enjoyable as usual

An intellectual Virginian lived here. And SHE was the first female member of Parliament.
