    Well documented and interesting. Thanks for taking the time to do that. I do have to add my 2 cents since I was a tax prepper. If you move that $140 to a marketing expense, you have to show it as income on the other side. But who cares, it probably won't get found anyway. Sometimes taxes are so complex I just say, well if they find it they are better than me and I would welcome the correction.

      Thanks! Yeah I didnt want that part to come out in an "accounting speak" way but I guess its tax season and its on the brain haha. I more so meant I categorize it that way in my head and make sure everything is legit with my accountant.

    850 unread messages has me STRESSED lol love that you kept your quote to your needs and didnt upcharge just because there was a bid gap between yours and the other company.

    • @justinlaser
      @justinlaser  6 месяцев назад +1

      HAHA yeah there are so many messages I just gave up on and havent deleted. The other quote was astronomical. It must have been an "I dont want to do this" quote.

  • @RoseKindred

    Interesting and informative. Honestly, either quote seemed fair for the amount of work/material you put in but the reduction for delay and possible marketing was smart.

    Great video! At least I know I am doing it right. Been doing that exact same process for years I did a large order for a movie and they had 70 Auto-CAD files to make a set that was in the movie for 4 minutes. Job cost them $800. My hourly charge is $100 and of course that goes up too when I don't want to do it. Great tip on the documenting as a Case Study. Great work! I learn something from all your videos and I've been laser engraving for 10+ years.

      Thats awesome to hear I love seeing what other project types people are doing. You could make lots of good content around movie set stuff Im jealous. Ive never tackled 70 files at once thats wild!

      It was the movie "Oblivion" with Tom Cruise. It was shot on a sound stage near New Orleans.Near the end of the film there was a set for a Space Shuttle. Every button, dial, lever was laser cut. Again, took a week of cutting, for probably less than 4 minutes of screen time.

    I live in Vancouver Canada and we cannot compete with that pricing because our costs here are way higher. You just made another Canadian homeless.

    Hey Justin - sorry if I missed it in one of your videos, but do you happen to have a go-to recommendation for a laser-safe leather supplier? Just curious, I'm thinking about experimenting with leather projects and I remembered that you have a background in leatherwork. Thanks either way!

    Working with an undimensioned PDF and not an actual print sounds like a customer nightmare to me. I'd have to go back and forth making sure that's what they were actually intending the product to be like

    Justin, excellent walkthrough video!! 🤯
    For the quote…how did you estimate that, or did you say it would be added to the production piece once weighed?
    The PDF with the watermarks…I am going to presume that those were protected in the PDF. Were you able to remove them easily in AI or was the a process?
    Great marketing approach!

    • @justinlaser
      @justinlaser  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks! Do you mean the shipping estimate? For removing watermarks it really depends on who made the file. Some makers will lock them down with passwords, or, rasterize the vectors so I cant pull out the shapes to edit. In those cases I usually say I cant complete the job unless they can acquire the vector files. However a lot of the file designers actually leave the PDF's editable.

      @@justinlaser thanks for the quick response. Yes, I did mean the shipping portion of the quote. I believe I would have weighted the number of sheets anticipated, and was wandering about your approach.
