i watched several videos because I just bought a 2 and 3 hybrid. What i found on youtube is the videos are split on how to hit a hybrid. 50% say center the ball in your stance and strike down on the ball like an iron and 50% say play it forward in your stance like a 9 iron and swing parallel to the ground like a fairway wood and use the loft of the club to get carry. It is the only club I have seen where there is no consensus on positioning and angle of attack.
My 3 hybrid is the club I prolly hit the best out of any club. I’m so tempted to drive with it. Definitely don’t slice it like my normal driver.

Just bought a 19 degree hybrid, great advice for how to use this club. I know this is an old video but it’s been a great help.
Mid 70s and have adapted my bag to have hybrids 3 thru 7 with only 8 thru LW traditional irons. After some “getting used to”, the change helped save my game. I’m having fun again.
I'm a senior golfer with a nine ( and climbing ) handicap, my iron play has gone south in a big manner I'm very frustrated because I'm driving the ball so well at present. I have a " nothing to lose attitude " so I just bought a set of hybrids yesterday, when I say set I mean 3 - PW. I had a quick chance at the practice range yesterday, I grabbed the 3 hybrid and hit a couple of dozen balls with it. Pleasantly surprised to say the least ,, I hit three kind of high push shots but the others were landing just past the 175 yard marker ,, I have the full set in my bag this morning ,, it's going to be interesting to say the least ,, cheers.

I agree. I play with lots of hybrids and that brush along the ground is how I do it. Barely even a divot for me. I do the same with my woods and it works great. I often just practice that brush along the ground with my various clubs in the backyard. Good tutorial Matt !

After struggling to hit my hybrids off the deck. I took time to watch this video. Problem solved. I am so grateful Matt. Keep up the good work. I don’t get quite the height that you get (except with my cheapo Ben Sayer 5h 24 degree) but hopefully that will come in time.

Easy to understand, nice and simple, hybrids are making my game that more forgiving, so much improvement using hybrids, I would say I prefer them than long irons to be honest definitely more consistent.

That aft leaning spine angle at address is something I have not been doing. That piece seems critical as it seems to put your biomechanics in a better place to brush the grass in front of the ball and not dig in.Great info Matt, thank you!
Hey Matt. I don't use hybrids personally but I just want to let you know that all of your tips are amazing. I have my first lesson booked for tomorrow. And today just shot my first under par 9 holes. 2 under 33. I'm hoping that I can work a bit more consistency into my game with lessons and the right practice. I'll shoot 75 one day and 87 or 88 the next. Just want to say thank you

@@Mattfryergolf no sorry. I'm in Australia, but using tips from yourself and a couple others on RUclips ive taken myself from 19 to 7 handicap in about 8 months, so don't stop doing what you are doing because I'm sure it's helping alot of people just like myself. Cheers.

Well done! What a tough nice course Dukes is! But i think, par 3 holes need to be long for becoming spectacular - i prefer the short ones with tricky angles to shot in and well protected too.... If you both want to leave the UK for a break record episode, i have one for you to beat : a 59 shot by Martin Kaymer on a 7100yard par 72 challange Tourismus course in Germany. He made a bogey on the first tee and then 14 under on the last 17 holes... Without a bogey you can shoot maybe a 58 in the scramble?? Thanks for the entertaining content!

Matt great vid,quick question,what would be ideal for weight distribution before,and during the golf swing with a hybrid?
The way I play it is like playing a 5 - 7 iron. And if you are like me an 8 handicapper, then my experience is not to go charging for optimum distance. Control and feel the club. My stance is ball slightly left of centre (Right Handed); feet shoulder width or slightly wider; slightly open stance; play 3/4 swing because for me I love playing left to right fades which actually controls your distance easier; if it is a 7 iron shot of say 150 yards then to play a hybrid you could be looking to hit 130 with a 3/4 swing and fade shot unless there are nasty sand traps preventing you. I allow the fade to gently land 100 yards and allow a run on to the green the rest of the way. Feel the club. Imagine the shot. See it and feel it.

Hi Matt great video, but how about a lesson on when you would use a hybrid instead off an iron.
How about for the those of us playing like a 5&6 hybrid? What ball position is good, just forward of center?
I'd still go with what I state here or just a fraction back from there.

Brilliant!
Hit it like a wood but from a long iron position - basically wherever the face dictates , very easy to shape off fairways ,tees or flyers --Hybrids are not good from heavy rough if it can be grabbed it will . Woods and irons work better , and to think they used to be called rescues .
I love my hybrids 5 and 3 but they are not game savers from trouble just a very very easy to hit long iron .
Constantly hook my hybrids. Do u need to use a neutral grip or weak grip w these. Ty
If you can’t hit a hybrid , go to the range and work it out. There is no substitute for practice. I find that smashing them off the deck forced me to learn to hit them properly. They are built to prevent the horrific feeling of that muscle backed 3i that is not quite on the sweet spot.

I hit my fairway woods very well but cannot hit any hybrid well. With my fairway woods I put the ball right in front of my zipper sometimes an inch behind if I need to keep it down. Why do hybrids just not work for me.
I have had five back surgeries so I cannot rotate and transfer weight forward as much as you young guys do. That being said my driver I only put 2inches in front of zipper. I hit down on all my woods and irons and level to a little up on driver. Part of being old, fat and having bad back.
Any thoughts appreciated.
I’m struggling to hit the length with my hybrids. I have a 20 degree ping g20 but can’t hit it 170yards ... any advice appreciated.....tried 5 wood just not accurate

Any obvious reason why I’m hooking my hybrid?... my natural shot is right to left (right hander) but whereas my normal shot is a draw or over draw at worst this is most definitely a hook. 🤔
Have 4 an5 hybrids just stated using them I have no idea why I waited so long to get them have taken 5-7 strokes of my game

Three hybrid should be hit just like a 5 wood, same loft. Three hybrid is easier to hit consistently.
