A lot of people like to talk about how hard it was for everyone else when Brian had his mental problems, of which the substance abuse was really just a symptom. But not enough people talk about how much courage it took just to BE Brian Wilson, being pulled so hard in different directions, in such an endless tug of war between creation and self-destruction, between what he wanted to do creatively and what people expected him to do, between all the light in his soul and all the darkness in his mind. He was being torn apart and stitched back together constantly and just to go out there and perform like he wasn't coming apart was courageous, was valiant, was and is one of the most remarkable things about Brian.

Many thanks for this excellent film. Just as on the 1973 Concert album, it's a shame they cut the "My children were raised..." section. It's my all-time favourite moment in music. They were able to perform it live (as shown on the recently-released Hawaii 1967 performances); they just chose not to. No wonder Brian didn't like touring with them...

@@skarrambo1 it's an alternative version, because the "bycicle ryder" theme that carl sings is not on any of those ones either...probably he wanted to incorporated some missing parts of the whole suite (remember that it was decades before we could hear a longer cut)..
