This is shocking. I don't think anyone could have expected that taking violent criminals, teaching them to kill, ordering them to kill, then releasing them onto the streets, might have some adverse repercussions. I am as shocked as anyone.

Not even strictly authoritarian China would allow a private oligarch to recruit "soldiers" from a federal or state prison, to be used in front lines. Russia, obviously, is an outlier among the world's really big, industrialized societies.
But, then, again, it really does seem to make sense, in a very crude, primitive, and heinous way: Putin and Russia know they don't have the resources to feed, cloth, and house those TENS of thousands of criminals in Russian prisons... especially now that their treasuries are running empty, literally, due to this little special operation advanture of Comrade Putin's.
So, wasting those 10's of thousands of hardcore criminals, to kill off a thousands of Ukrainians, both professional soldiers and citizens alike, inside Ukraine... is not such a stupid move on the part of Putin...from a strict Machiavellian POV.

This is not unexpected. There was a story that came out of a Russian village that one of their own had committed murder and was only 2 years into a long stretch when he was offered a spot with the Wagner Group. It is a small village in the far east of Russia and the people there prayed he'd die in Ukraine. They heard that he had not only survived but was on his way home. The village leaders tried to get the Oblast government to intervene but were told a contract is a contract and he fulfilled his contract. The people who testified against him were terrified and rightly so.
That bullshit about talking someone down "when they are angry and just destroying things" is the biggest load of horse crap I've ever heard. A cold blooded killer will always be a cold blooded killer because they lack empathy for animals and humans alike. That doesn't change. True killers enjoy the thrill of the kill like a junkie who enjoys the thrill as the drug enters their system. The only thing the Russian people can do is lie in wait for their killers return and kill him because they won't stop and someone needs to make them stop.

@@sarac.3259 Fair point. Did you know the Wagner soldiers in Bakhmut filled the mouths of their rap€ victims with expanding builders foam, so they couldn't scream? Those ones didn't survive obviously but, at least it meant there was evidence in their graves. According to the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine, the ages of the victims of sexual assault by Russian soldiers ranged from 4 years old to over 80 years old. I don't know if the 4 year old survived. I guess it depends how many soldiers there were. I lost my compassion after that.
Also, Ruzzia had a choice that was denied Ukraine. Ruzzian authorities CHOSE to unleash those creatures on their own population, after all Wagner is Putin's private army. The only thing the Wagner soldiers had to do was survive for 6 months in Ukraine. Complete pardon and record wipe and straight back into "civilisation" when they returned to ruzzia. Perhaps they were counting on their being no survivors. It was NEVER going to end well, they were jailed for a reason.

Based upon the validity of the information in this report, it can be concluded that the Russians have made a fatal mistake of keeping their soldiers in high intensity combat situations for greater than six (6) months, which is the required time before the average soldier enters either a completely pacified state or a completely aggressive state which renders the soldier completely useless and a danger to the command and other soldiers. Thus, we could possibly see more in-fighting among the Russians which could change the course of the war.

Russian (Soviet) management theory: The prisoners likely will die reducing the recidivism rate. Others might be captured and Ukraine will have to take care of them. If they escape in Ukraine, they will commit their depraved acts there and be Ukraine's problem. If they are seriously injured, they may not be able to commit significant crimes. A percentage will get back to Russia, be able to function and there will be problems.
