LoL! A few years ago I was talking to a young friend and I brought up The Rolling Stones. She said to me "That's a magazine, right?" I must have given her a look that could crush mountains, because she started looking scared! I told her "Girl, get ready. You will be graded on this later." I think I wrote out the names of about 100 groups and various singers and musicians because it was about ten pages. The next time she came rolling into my driveway she had actually listened to most of them and had many CDs that she'd put together. Conway Twitty was blasting out her car, followed by the Stones, David Bowie, The Beatles, B.B. King, etc. etc. Needless to say, I gave her an "A+". She was 19 and in pharmacy school. She's 35 now and we are still great friends. (I'm 63) So rock on! It's all right! Hahaha yeah!
Mick Jagger, Keith Richards are the main members. Btw, the band has been out since the 60s and they still tour. The band was out before the magazine by the way, by about 5 years.
Rolling Stones got their name from a Muddy Waters song called Rollin Stone. The band was formed in 1962 I think. So they even predate the Beatles. Just look at how varied the British Invasion was when you had Beatles, Stones, the Who, the animals, just to name a few.

The version of "Miss You" that you listened to was a heavily edited single mix. You should check out the old 12" single and really get into the groove. It's from the Ronnie Wood Era and is a song from the 1978 Some Girls album. Barring that, you could also just check out the version that opens the Some Girls album. You need to check out a ton of Rolling Stones material from the Brian Jones Era and the Mick Taylor Era. You should check out songs like "Paint It Black" from the Brian Jones Era and "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?" from the Taylor Era.

This is a long-time favorite of mine. One of those songs that floats through my head nearly every day, at one time or another. It quietly resonates, like a heartbeat.
They were part of the British invasion of the 60's and have been touring ever since. This song was released in the 70's during the "everyone jump on the disco bandwagon" days. There's been a long-running joke that Keith Richards will outlive the earth! Lol! The life he's lived it's a mystery how he's still living
I’ve always loved this song. The awesome bass line, the 4 to the floor drum beat, and Mick Jagger’s vocals. My buddies and I used to try and mimic Jagger and always failed miserably!
The Rolling Stones are hard to describe or put in one category. They evolved over their long career and also remained relevant to their growing audience of loyal fans. Perhaps the best tribute is that they are unique to this day. You don’t have imitators who sound like, or look like the rolling stones. Enjoy them while they are still with us.
this was the rolling stones' foray into disco. for about a year and a half, every band did one disco song. the rage started after the movie 'saturday night fever', and lasted until the punk and metal resurgence around 1980/1981
How in heck can anyone say they didn't know The Rolling Stones was a group?! OMG!!! Only the greatest rock n roll band in the world AND still going strong! Welcome to the best of the best!
This was the Rolling Stones attempt at disco, you are not wrong about that. At the height of the disco era, a lot of rockers put out a disco song to try to get radio airplay, much like how in the 1980's every hair metal band did a power ballad. Other rock artists who notoriously released disco songs were KISS with "I Was Made for Loving You", Rod Stewart with "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", andQueen with "Another One Bites the Dust"
You're right about disco having an influence on a lot of rock bands including Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall with that bass. It was the same way in the late 60's with psychedelic music. The Beatles basically started it or at least popularized it, then almost every band took a stab at it including the Stones
"Miss You" by The Rolling Stones was released in 1978 and featured: Mick Jagger (vocals), Keith Richards (guitar), Much Taylor (guitar), Charlie Watts (drums), Bill Wyman (bass, percussion), Ronnie Wood (bass, saxophone). Brian Jones (multi-instrumentalist) was the founding member of the Stones, but he died of an overdose in 1969.
This is one of almost a hundreds or more songs by The Rolling Stones. They go back to the sixties. And, still going strong today, and touring. Blessings to you and your family as well as all others. Peace and Love be with you forever.🙏😊✝✝✝🌈💮🙏
Miss You was the Stones' contribution to Disco. It was released in 1978, at the height of the disco era. On the same album (Some Girls), they also released a country song, "Far Away Eyes", as well as a cover of The Temptations "Just My Imagination". A little bit of something for everyone on that album!
Best laugh. These guys are contemporary to the Beatles and as well known. ( Well usually. ) Only they're still going. I was lucky to see them. Good show.
I have seen the clip from this song, official, and Brian Jones is on it. What gives? When did Mick start in studio? Best guitarist beside Brian. Jones died before he was able to fully develop his talent. @@rtaylor802
Yeah, OK. The question stands. Did they do this with Brian Jones or Mick Taylor? Originally, I mean. not going in on the Mick Taylor, Brian Jones argument, "uh, Dio or Ozzy?" lol. Stones would have been good with Rory Gallagher as well.@@charlessteenburgen
That red tongue logo was unbelievably popular about 1973-1979. You saw it everywhere - and I do mean everywhere - tee shirts, jackets, tote bags, decals on people' jeans back pocket, posters, stickers on students' school binders. Before this the most popular decal was the round yellow smiley face that often came with the "have a nice day" slogan.
Saw them when I was 15 in Nashville they had just started touring the states. There’s Mick Jagger, Keith Richard one of the greatest guitar players around. Love them♥️🌹♥️
To me, this era, the 70s, was when the Stones peaked in song writing and skills. Just listen to that bass and Watt's jazz influenced shuffles while the guitars work all around the beat. The best
i love Miss You. It does have a Funk/Disco groove. This is a shortened version. Sugar Blue played Harmonica on this, and he has a short solo at the end that was cut from this version.
When this song came out, my teacher in Mechanical Drafting used to turn on the radio (if we were acting good) and this song usually was playing. I'd get into grooving on the tunes and this one in particular, that I'd just blow right through any work like it was nothing.
The Stones started in 1962 and are still around, though with a few break ups and deformations starting in mid 1980s. The line up for this song includes 4 of the 5 original members. Mick Jarrger vocals and harmonica, Keith Richards on guitar and backing vocals, Charlie Watts on drums, Bill Wyman on bass (since retired as he hit 84 this year. He has never been officially replaced.) Ron Wood joined in 1975 as the bands third lead guitarist replacing Mick Taylor, who replaced founder Brian Jones who died shortly after leaving in 1969. This lineup (minus Bill) is the current lineup. The song was a big hit, but the disco element was controversial for some of their fans, but they have always covered or incorporated influences from mainly black music like the blues, soul and Motown. They are one of the biggest bands of all time and their music is everywhere. It is a near guarantee you have heard one of their songs on the radio, in a movie, or as a cover by another artist. Maroon 5's song "Moves Like Jagger" is a direct reference to Mick Jagger. They release 23 studio albums between 1964 and 2016 in the UK. (The first few US albums were different and the 5 UK albums somehow became 7 US albums, so I'm sticking to UK releases.)
Wow, I didn't think there was anyone on the planet that hasn't heard of the Rolling Stones! They have been HUGE for decades. You need to check out Gimmie Shelter (probably my favorite song of the Stones) and Brown Sugar.
The Stones love Black American music since the beginning. Blues, Funk, Reggae and Rock and Roll. Done plenty of covers as well. This is full on Funk Disco from 1977.
The 1970'a was the decade of disco. It was a sad time for us who missed the sounds of the 60's. Miss You is the Stones submission to disco. Many of us were quite surprised at this change in Rolling Stones style; however, no one could dispute that this song was too good to criticize and moan the Stone's change in course. More than anything else, it showed and proved what a musically versatile group are The Rolling Stones and why their staying power has continued for over 50 years.
Some media guy commenting on the Stones on tour in recent years said back in the day the guys used to go behind the amps on stage and smoke and now they go back there and take a hit off an oxygen bottle. : )
The Rolling Stones were a premier 60 & 70's rock & roll band. Ever hear of Mick Jagger? "Can't Get No Satisfaction"? "Sympathy for the Devil"? and many, many more. They may be one of the 'old time' rock bands who are still touring. Much like the Beatles, the Stones were HUGE, all over the world. And both of these bands played (and wrote) all kinds of music. Yeah, I one of those folks who doesn't sleep well any longer. Which is why I'm here at 4am. I'm glad you enjoyed that Stones song, and I hope you keep experimenting. Happy trails, MaryJesse (one of the OLD folks).
Stones hated disco and was spoofing it for fun and somehow this song developed as a big hit for them. Or maybe this is the story behind "emotional rescue" but , they stumbled upon some disco sound and ran with it.
My favorite Stones song, along with "Start Me up." And, yeah, this was heavy funk/disco, but every time I hear it, I wish someone would come around at 12, with some Puerto Rican girls, that are just dying to meet me-with or without a case of wine😜✌🎸
How in heck have you never heard of The Rolling Stones? I'm like....baffled. Only the greatest (in my opinion) rock n roll band in history. I grew up with them but then my mother is from England and she used to follow them around London to the different theaters and clubs where they would sing in 1964/65. Got their autographs and pictures. Rock, blues, jazz and soul music. They idolized the American blues bands/singers of the day and so much of their music takes after what they grew up listening to.
These guys are older than me, that means they're older than dirt! But, they're still rocking! Mick Jagger, lead & Keith Richards on the guitar. Keith Richards once said everybody wanted to be like Elvis, but he wanted to be Scotty Moore (Elvis' original guitarist who was a pioneer in rock n roll, and who gave Elvis 1st recordings that unique sound)
Hey man I'm 49 yrs. old and all my years of JAMMIN' 2 THIS, I NEVER, EVER THOUGHT OF THEM BEING,....."HI-I-I-I-I-YAH!! THAT CRACKED ME UP AND I HAD 2 SHOW MY PEEPS, WHAT U SAID!!! 😂 😂 😂 "What's tha matter witchu boy?!!"

I prefer The Mick Taylor era over all. And the other argument I have to say Ozzy.
Going to see them June 25th. CHICAGO.
Love them♥️🌹♥️
The Rolling Stones... one of the biggest rock groups in history. They came up at about the same time the Beatles did.
To me, this era, the 70s, was when the Stones peaked in song writing and skills. Just listen to that bass and Watt's jazz influenced shuffles while the guitars work all around the beat. The best
Probably the top #1 or #2 band of the rock and roll era. They sound even better now in their 70s, HTG.
I saw the stones farewell tour, 1982 i think, Stones, Jethro Tull, Johnny Cougar. Great show. Glad I caught them right at the end.
farewell tour 1982 lol, they still tour every 2 or 3 years and out on tour this summer 2019
i love Miss You. It does have a Funk/Disco groove. This is a shortened version. Sugar Blue played Harmonica on this, and he has a short solo at the end that was cut from this version.
Love their older songs so much more. Albums like Beggars Banquet, Sticky Fingers, Between the Buttons. I was very into the Stones as a teen.
The Rolling Stones are rock royalty. They began about the same time of the Beatles.
Can't you hear me knocking? One of the best by the Stones!!
The 'hot lips' logo goes back to 1970. Instantly recognizable to Stones fans. One of their more mellow, or melancholy songs is 'Wild Horses',
Paint is black is one of their best songs.
The Stones love Black American music since the beginning. Blues, Funk, Reggae and Rock and Roll. Done plenty of covers as well. This is full on Funk Disco from 1977.
Biggest band ever hands down from early sixties and still going
The 1970'a was the decade of disco. It was a sad time for us who missed the sounds of the 60's. Miss You is the Stones submission to disco. Many of us were quite surprised at this change in Rolling Stones style; however, no one could dispute that this song was too good to criticize and moan the Stone's change in course. More than anything else, it showed and proved what a musically versatile group are The Rolling Stones and why their staying power has continued for over 50 years.
One of my favorites from the Stones.
This song came out when I was in 6th grade. Loved it then, love it now.
When I was a kid, I wasn't much into The Rolling Stones, but now as an adult, I can fully appreciate them.
I was working for the Oakland Raiders, this song was blasting everyday on the field ,in their cars, the guys were diggin this one
PLEASE! Do Sympathy for the Devil!!! Best song EVER written!!
Great sound bro . Your doing a great job. Rock and Roll
Don't forget that these guys were already into the 25th year of their career by the time this song came out!!
Some media guy commenting on the Stones on tour in recent years said back in the day the guys used to go behind the amps on stage and smoke and now they go back there and take a hit off an oxygen bottle. : )
Beast of Burden is arguably their best. You should give it a whirl.
You may also like Shattered from the same album. Has a bit of a rap quality to it while maintaining that great Rolling Stone sound.
Some girls is brilliant from start to finish
I think this guy must live under a rock with some of the bands/singers he has never heard of.
Stones hated disco and was spoofing it for fun and somehow this song developed as a big hit for them. Or maybe this is the story behind "emotional rescue" but , they stumbled upon some disco sound and ran with it.
definitely Disco era with Jazzy drums. The Stones always adapting, Blues, Country, Disco etc
My favorite Stones song, along with "Start Me up." And, yeah, this was heavy funk/disco, but every time I hear it, I wish someone would come around at 12, with some Puerto Rican girls, that are just dying to meet me-with or without a case of wine😜✌🎸
The Rolling Stones are my favorite band.
Mine too especially The Mick Taylor era
Gimme Shelter, merry Clayton. Probably the song of the sixties
OMG, YES!!!!
This is probably my 2nd fave Stones song. in order, my top 3 are 1. Gimmie Shelter 2. Miss You 3. Paint it Black.
That bass line is mesmerizing.
You should do Can't you Hear me Knocking, Dancing With Mr D and Sympathy for the Devil. One of the most iconic and influential bands of all time.
Searching your videos, this is the first Stones tune.
That's Sugar Blue laying down those bluesy 3rd position harmonica riffs in the background.
Angie and Heartbreaker are great great Stones songs, but their catalog is huge and full of off the chain greats!!!
I love playing the bass line of this song.
One of the biggest rock bands in the world :)
This song was meant to sound disco/funk during the disco era, and was a huge hit for them in 1978.
Hey man I'm 49 yrs. old and all my years of JAMMIN' 2 THIS, I NEVER, EVER THOUGHT OF THEM BEING,....."HI-I-I-I-I-YAH!! THAT CRACKED ME UP AND I HAD 2 SHOW MY PEEPS, WHAT U SAID!!! 😂 😂 😂 "What's tha matter witchu boy?!!"
check out "doom and gloom"...quite a recent Stones rocker and its classic Stones, the boys still have it and rock harder than anyone.
Can't imagine a world without them, such a part of the soundtrack to my life! 😎
That was awesome as hell when you reacted to the Puerto Rican Girls Just Dyin To Meet Ya.
Can you please react to Some Girls by the Stones?
good suggestion very humbly submitted. Read up on these groups and singers on Wikipedia . You will be amazed, some of the music you play is by some of the greatest groups and singers in the world.
One video I can never watch just once is the Rolling Stones "As Tears Go By", specifically the one from the Shine A Light concert. Would love to see what you think.
I'm up friend it's my 2nd time & I subscribed already
