Hope you love it. The 3ds is my favorite system to be honest. Love the timing. Also, I have Persona Q2, Shin Megami Tensei 4 (and it's sequal, SMT 4 Apocalypse), and Etrian Odyssey 2, Fanfir Night (I know it wasn't a part o the video, but same series). They are all games I recommend to you
@@thatvideogamesshow It's extra funny because you did the same thing with a Vita must have game list not long ago just after I picked up my slim :D It's legit so funny how it happened twice, and for two consoles that most people see as "dead" these days too so most people arent making videos anymore

@@ghostwolfx I also have a Vita (got it last summer. Of course they stopped making it right when I wanted it). And I agree. I think the games are enjoyable and you get a lot with the console overall. That and the online store and the virtual console helps

Nice to see the 3DS version of Tales of the Abyss get some love.
Fire Emblem Awakening is really good. I put over 200 hours into it. The whole marriage and children system really pulls you in.
Radiant Historia, Bravery Default and it's sequel are on my to-play list.
When you begin playing Awakening, you become a fan of the franchise, you can't stop after that.
One tip for bravely default. Go for the fastest ending first, then watch the true ending on RUclips, then play bravely second after. I won't spoil too much outside of that this is the best way to avoid repetitive tedium and still finish the game with a pleasant aftertaste.

Bravely Default 2 is by far my favorite 3DS RPG
I feel like Fantasy Life should have been acknowledged.
100% agree, fantasy life is one of the best games I've ever played not just on the 3ds. I'd love to see a second game made for the switch or even just a remake!

The DS and 3DS have (in my opinion) the most solid library of good games. Maybe tied with the PlayStation 2.
I really enjoy these videos! I actually only have a few of the games mentioned in this one! But I've had a lot of fun with my 3DS! Some of my favorites are Fantasy Life and Rune Factory 4!

Hey Xenoblade Chronicles is has a port on the 3ds and is at least one of the the top 10 rpgs period
It also requires a new 3DS which doesn’t really gel that well with the intention of this list. Awesome game though! Played the original on the Wii. Cannot wait for the switch remake!

great top ten James.. I've got all of that games on the list on my 3DS.. Etrian Odyssey IV open my interest on 1st person dungeon crawler I hate that genre before, SMT IV is an amazing game one of my favorite on the 3DS.. a must have also on the 3DS Stella Glow, 7th Dragon III Code VFD, Fantasy Life, Ever Oasis, The Alliance Alive, Mario and Luigi Dream Team, Little Battlers Experience (ala Customs Robo Arena), Xenoblade Chronicles and my favorite Yokai Watch 3 :) ..

Dude tales of the abyss was amazing I probably would've never played this but since it was portable and I was able to take it with me and play during downtime at work I was able to finish it. It was a fantastic game even tho it was a port it was still amazing.
Any one playing ur 3ds still I fully recommend fantasy life and ever oasis. Can't go wrong both r such long non stop fun. I have a Xbox one s, switch and many more systems yet I always go back to my 2ds xl so much . Those r def 2 of my all time fav games. Easily

I haven't started this video yet, but I recently picked up Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology and it is outstanding so far. If it's not on this list I'll be surprised. Here we go!
It might be good to mention that some of these games have demos; Bravely Default has its own content outside of the main game.

I think 3ds should go back into production because it's got the best rpgs ever !still out clases the switch and I still play it more .
I am a huge RPG fan and I bought a lot of them for my 3DS, but I think the plain old DS had surperior RPG's. The great DS remakes of Dragon Quest IV, V, VI, Golden Sun, Pokemon Black/White 1&2, the awesome Chrono Trigger Port and many more. All in all both the 3DS and the DS were RPG beasts, but I think I prefer the DS. Great thing that you can play DS games on the 3DS, so you get the best of both worlds.

Rodrigo Cáceres That’s a great game
I'd go with etrian odyssey nexus or untold 1 the millenial girl. Nexus is a celebration of the whole series so far with classes from all 5 previous main games plus 2 extra, and many labyrinths from across the series. While untold 1 is a remake of the original that's pretty well done and includes a story mode that gives you a premade party if you dont wanna make your own party for your first playthrough, the story mode is also pretty decent. It's not dragon quest or any other rpg that focuses hardcore on story, but it's well enough to help you get an even better feel for the world and some character motivations if you want that. But classism is the better way to play that one, again if you dont mind making your own party from scratch.
top 10 must have 3ds rpgs? easy.
smtiv, smtiv apocalypse, strange journey redux, devil survivor 1 oc, devil survivor 2 rb, devil summoner: soul hackers, persona q, persona q2, etrian oddysey iv and etrian untold 1
The DS versions of devil survivor 1&2 both have incredible thick full-color instruction booklets, which I much prefer to those “electronic manuals.”
My favorite is Shin Megami Tensei IV, great list .

I know the the 3DS is pretty much going to be relegated to indie developers (going by the eShop) now the Switch is the big man on campus. All that said I feel like the 3DS, as well as the original DS, we're a bit more personalized than the Switch and I believe that their games will continued to be played years from now.
I love all games by Atlus, I am a giant fan of RPG´s, and with atlus´s SMT, Persona and Etrian Odyssey Series. Catherine and Jack Bros. are also pretty good games
Thanks for the video. I have FE and SMT4 already but it’s always a good idea to know which rpgs I still need to get for my 3ds. Building up my library for this handheld before the prices of these games goes up in price.

so funny how Atlus supported the 3DS heavily and haven't supported the Switch at all
Switch is still new, so they have to be conservative. They are diversify to many platforms. Remember Atlus was on Sony majority of the time.
To be fair, a lot of the Atlus games on the 3DS were expanded ports of DS games, and the Switch doesn't have dual screens so porting 3DS games to it would be trickier.
Meanwhile, they did port Tokyo Moorage Sessions from the WiiU (which technically did have dual screens, but the WiiU was probably closer to the Switch in terms of hardware/programming), is guessing interest on releasing Persona 5 on it, and is going to be releasing both Persona 5 Scramble and Shin Megami Tensei 5 on it. I think that they've also ported Catherine: Full Body onto it in other regions, or have at least put up some copyrights indicating that they are planning to do so.

I have the 3ds xl, but my library of games isn't big and it has some very good games but also random games. I wish I picked up other good games, but money don't grow on trees like in animal crossing. Now I have a switch and I'm trying to have a cool library. :)

3ds is such an amazing system.
DQ 8 is hands down; till.this day, one of the greatest RPG of ALL time. It has held up completely and is a fantastic RPG experience to this day.

For me, Fire Emblem games, Shin Megami Tensei and Devil Survivor games, Etrian Odyssey games, Tales of the Abyss and DQVIII are the best 3DS games.

Dragon Quest VII, Dragon Quest VIII, Tales of the Abyss, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Persona Q, Persona Q2, Bravely Default, Xenoblade Chronicles, Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Rune Factory IV...?
Though, some of these games that I listed I have yet to play, but I hope to play all of these. At least these are games I see as full RPGs for the 3DS. Fire Emblem and Devil Survivor are nice, though I consider those in the Strategy genre.
I liked IVA and fates more than SMT IV and awakening but great list. I didn't play DSII on the 3ds since i did almost everything on the original so i feel like that was enough. I beat overclocked on my 3ds though

I really like FE awakening, more than conquest and birthright. Other really good rpg is conception 2 in my opinion
And Echoes is also the best (well story wise and cast wise in my opinion) but most definitely worst gameplay. Still recommend playing it

Great video, the only thing I didn't like was the fact that the background music was a lot louder than your voice. The whole video I was fighting the music to try and listen to your voice. Up the voice and lower the music.
I find it funny how I haven't beaten the first five games featured, but I did beat the last five games.

Half the list is Atlus which isn't nearly enough
People who say that Bravely Default has a cliche background really couldn't pass half the game. They literally make us believe the story is basically Final Fantasy I and then they just slap our face with a mindblowing new story

Smt 4 is amazing. Best rpg on 3ds imo.
I'm extremely divided between buying a Nintendo 3DS and playing Stella Glow, Fantasy Life, 7th dragon III Code, Bravely Default again ... and playing the rest of this list or buying a Switch just because of 3 Houses and Bravely Default II. The problem is, I'm poor, so I won't be able to afford $ 60 games as easily as buying used 3DS games. When I sleep sometimes I dream that I'm playing these games that I mentioned (3DS) lol I really miss them, to play them I mean

Sadly have not played Persona Q2, any Etrian Odyssey or Rune Factory game yet. Rune Factory 4 however will get an HD remaster on the Switch, which I'll keep an eye on.

The best DS game I played and it must be equally if not better on the 3DS. It's clearly in a top 10 for me for many reasons.
Trust me, it is worth the money!
the combat system gets old really fast.
And no mention of THE BEST rpg game on the console - Xenoblade Chronicles. (and also Ever Oasis)
The only downside of Xenoblade Chronicles is that it requires a New 3DS which not all people own. For that reason it didn’t really gel that well with the intention of this video. Although I agree it is an incredible experience, cannot wait for the Switch version!
There are a few that I would add, but these are all solid options as well and I gotta agree that Bravely Default is simply fantastic.

1. Is it published by ATLUS?
If YES buy it absolutely right now.
2. Is it published by SquareEnix?
If YES almost certainly buy it.
3. Is it published by Namco-Bandi?
If YES, check to make sure you actually found a copy because those games are exceptally hard to find. Buy it, only if it is below retail price.
4. Is it published by another publisher?
If YES, check for a review online, then wait for a sale. *(if it wasn't already 2020)

Got mine april 2019. Love it and have a backlog that will take me a couple years to get through. There are dozens of "must-have" or "Top 25" list vids here. Just watch some of those (such as this one for rpgs) and you'll get all the info you need to pick out some great ones.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate!
I feel like I'm the only one who couldn't stand PQ2. random encounters that are just a wall (you know the ones, the ones with: Special enemies that take no weakness till half their hp and a gold enemy with high defense. blugh) and hikari, i absolutely hate her.
Dragon Quest games are quite fun and are in some ways, equal to, or even sometimes superior to their better known rival Final Fantasy. I love that Dragon Quest sticks to its turn-based first-person view battle system throughout the series whereas Final Fantasy has experimented with all sorts of battle systems, none of which are as much fun as the original system. One thing that Final Fantasy games, especially 1 and 2, have over Dragon Quest is the cool magic system. If Dragon Quest had a magic system like that, it would be superior to FF in every way.
Bravely Default is visually amazing and it's cool to see Final Fantasy style turn-based combat in a new story world.
Fire Emblem has a lot of good games for the system. I love the tactical combat system. One of the best made. The new ones like Awakening are nice because they make use of the 3D feature and have modern graphics without giving up the combat system that is the heart of the game. The option to play 'casual' mode is good because it makes the game more accessible to people who aren't already fans of the series.
I think final fantasy’s charm comes from the constant evolution of its gameplay. Final fantasy also has more thought provoking and interesting stories in my opinion. It also has a lot of charm. There’s a reason FF is the most popular jrpg after Pokémon

First of all my english is very bad but I'll try my best, I really want to find a game that is for the nintendo 3ds but I can't find it, the game stars with a couple of people in a ship and then a kraken attack the ship and all of them fall, is like an rpg, if someone can do something with this info pls tell me the name!!!!
