@@joshua7426 Since 2017 they have not released a single game in the west outside of a couple of switch ports of older titles. None of their new games were even hinted at for a release outside of Japan. And because they closed down their North American branch it was looking pretty grim for a while there.
Very cool to see three of our translations in this list. You're welcome btw! (Maple Story, Rocket Slime 3, E.X. Troopers) I helped the Maple Story team get to the finish line. ^_^
Beyond the Labyrinth looks SO COOL. That combat system sounds like the most interesting thing I've heard since SMT's Press Turn. I can't believe we couldn't get it outside of Japan. Great video!!
Beyond the Labyrinth was always a game I felt like came from a dream, and that’s why I imagined that we never got it in English. I remember being so excited with this game next to Bravery Default
Videos like these are the reason I still have my Japanese 3ds. I've never even heard about Nazowaku Yakata and Beyond the Labyrinth, so I'll definitely check them out.
@@NaveedMohebbi I got a bit of an update. I just finished playing nazowaku, it was definitely worth it. There's so many creative little details and mechanics that genuinely took me by surprise. But yeah, there's a few parts where saying Japanese words is a must. If you ever play it I would also recommend playing with headphones as the game suggest and lowering the mic sensitivity. It will make for a much more pleasant experience.
@@007MrYang YO that's great to hear and I'm glad you enjoyed it!! That's absolutely what it seemed like when I was making my way through the game as best I could. So creative!! Hopefully one day I can play it with a full understanding of everything!
I am speechless at the sight of Beyond the Labyrinth! I was aware of most of these games, but I have no clue how this one in particular went under my radar for so long, specially since Ive looked into tri-Ace's gameography a couple of times over the years... I guess I just missed the bandwagon back when there was talk about the game coming to the west. Also did not know about Nazo Waku Yakata, so thank you for that and for the video as a whole!
It dawned on me that the 3DS came out roughly the same time as the Japanese tsunami. You'd think that would leave a heavy impact of the 3DS's launch in Japan, right?
I think the biggest discovery I made with this video is how many of those games actually had English Translations. I knew of games like the Dragon Quest series or Ex Troopers, but I never knew translations were added. Also that mansion game looks like the 3DS version of Tearaway and I am all in for that! Excellent video and welcome back!
Thanks to everyone for watching!! If there are any Japanese exclusive 3DS games that I missed or that you think I need to check out, let me know in the comments!! Link to some of the fan translations can be found in the description. LOVE YOU ALL!
I would love to see a video on the new Magician's Quest games, and I'm going to have to check out Beyond the Labyrinth now. Also, as someone who was also super intrigued by Time Travellers I'm thrilled to know there's an english playthrough online. I desperately wanted that game for the Vita back when Level 5 was in their prime!
I only found the Time Travelers English playthrough in the process of making this video and I was so happy to do so! Was super interested in it back in the day.
Always loved the little niche stuff like this, it's great to see some games I've never heard of before and it's got me one step closer to finally modding my 3ds lol
It really is simple. There are step by step guides that literally anyone can follow. If you know how to download files and unzip them then copy them to an sd card thats basically all you need to know how to do and they will step you through everything you need to do including what files you need to download and from where. I really recommend doing it especially now that Nintendo is shutting the eshop down this month. If they don't want to take your money or preserve their old games then I think we should be allowed to pirate them. Pirates do what nintenwont lol
@@JaredConnell I did my old 3ds last week, first time. Super easy, barely an inconvenience, even for a dyslexic. It's not like I had to read the lines of code, just match the file names to the guide. Took my time, almost put something in the wrong place but I triple check each step before moving on so I caught it. Just update to a 32g microsd, plus adaptor if needed for old, before you start so you don't need to do it later.
Fantastic video and wonderful game choices, I knew none of those awesome games! I'm in an absolute rage that "Nanashi no Game" was never translated, that is in my opinion one of the most unique games ever!
I bought all the dragon quest games. after watching this video I am picking 2 more games EX Troopers and maple story thanks. I would like to see a Pal exclusive 3ds games next.

Great video! I haven't played much DQ but Rocket Slime looks right up my alley. I also knew that MapleStory had a game on the original DS but had no idea there was a follow up on 3DS. As a long time fan its cool to see how this sequel was treated as the character art and animations were preserved way better than in the DS original. I tend to give the 3DS a hard time as I'm kind of on an anti-portable arc at the moment, but I gotta give it credit, it was was an awesome console and this video makes me want to pull it out again just for fun. Always love learning about such strange and interesting games in these videos, so I hope this isn't the last!
I've always been of the opinion that the original DS or GBA are Nintendo's best handhelds but every time I look back at the 3DS, I really appreciate how good its library was! Definitely gotta be in the mood to play on a handheld though so I totally get that! And this definitely won't be the last video like this!
This was such a cozy video. I've been waiting for what feels like 100 years for Beyond the Labyrinth. However, the Touch Detective games you mentioned really surprised me. I remember seeing reviews of them and thinking they looked so interesting. I never ended up getting them though because Nintendo power gave the games a bad review. :/ No time like the present to try it though. I still have all my favorite Nintendo handhelds.
I read a report earlier this month that said Level 5 is looking to expand their audience outside Japan again. Don't know how long it'll take or how they'll go about it, but I'm sure we haven't seen the last of them
I still have no idea why the Vita never got ports of DQ7 and 8 to, even if it was kept Japan-only like DQ Heroes 2 was. Like, both original games were Sony exclusives for around 20ish years before that, and Squeenix was porting tons of games to the Vita at the time.

GBA and DS video when? :) i vote powerful golf for ds, sadly there's no fan translation, but there is a written guide by A7thSteve that helped me get through a few "success" mode playthroughs. the typical video game golf QTE gameplay is some of the best. allowing for last second adjustments to your hit if you're off on the power. The country themed courses with escalating challenge difficulty are pretty rewarding. not to mention it looks and sounds surprisingly good for the hardware. if the camelot mario golf gameboy games were a dating sim.
