This part of the Get aback documentary was special; I never realized how this whole rooftop thing came about, so it was awesome to see how everything worked at the time. You’ll enjoy it! There’s also a short vid on RUclips that’s like a 20 minute primer on the history of the Beatles that might be worth watching, it gives you a great overview without diving into too much detail.

There is an edited version of this video, without the lyric mistakes, on the official Beatles channel. It is the Beatles video with the highest number of views on RUclips. It's not pure "live"- the used some sound from other takes of the same sessions, but it looks live.
This was the last time we ever saw the Beatles together on TV or in a movie or anything else. It was done in business district at lunch time. The streets filled up with people in some business owners complained and the police came to shut them down you can see the police standing around while they finish the set
This is not quite accurate. Preston was a good friend of the Beatles, but apart from appearing with them in the rooftop concert documented in the Peter Jackson directed documentary “Get Back,” Preston only recorded with the Beatles a handful of times. His most notable contribution was on the single “Get Back” which was credited as the Beatles with Billy Preston. That was the only time another artist received credit on a Beatles recording. Besides “Get Back” Preston played background electric organ on two or three tracks on the “Abbey Road” album.
This is the last LIVE performance by The Beatles from January 1969. The "GET BACK" documentary is fascinating, but it is very long, nearly 7 hours in length. P.S. The late, great Billy Preston is on keyboards. ☮️
In 1956, John Lennon started a school band called "The Quarrymen". They went to The Quarry bank school. In 1957, his band mate IVAN SANDERSON, introduced him to a 14 year old kid who could actually remember lyrics to songs (unlike John who made a lot of his up as he went) named Jimmy McCartney (James Paul McCartney._) He asked Paul to join after a performance of Eddie Cochran's 20 flight rock. A year later, Paul's bus mate to school, George Harrison (13 years old) impressed John and Paul with an audition on the top of a double decker bus (George's dad was a bus conductor) The rest of the quarrymen had left, and it was now just John, Paul and George, playing at dances and basement parties. Occasionally, they would get a drummer here and there, but it wasn't until 1960 that they hired Pete Best to drum for them, and also John's college friend, Stu Sutcliffe was on bass. Their names were, "Johnny Silver and the Moondogs", Long John and the Silver Beetles, "The Silver Beatles" and then, thanks to Stu, "The Beatles" a play on words involving a drum beat, Beat poetry, and the insects, honoring their hero, Buddy Holly, (and the Crickets). After 2 years of scrambling the UK and Hamburg Germany, a fill in drummer, Ritchie Starkey (Ringo Starr) sat in with them (he was a long time, well known Liverpool musician and a pro to them, and the best drummer in England at the time) Since nobody could be fired, they had their manager talk Pete Best into quitting the band, and Ringo was in that weekend. For 8 more years they created music, having hit it big with LOVE ME DO just weeks after Ringo joining, and PLEASE PLEASE ME a few months later. Their first album, recorded all in one day, months later was on the American charts in 1964, with all the top 5 spots on the top 100 being Beatles songs. All 14 songs were on the top 40 AT THE SAME TIME. They released 2-3 albums per year and toured incessantly until 1966, then being music studio masters. Since the Beatles split, McCartney released a total of 50 albums, arias, and film soundtracks in 50 years. The most prolific and successful musician in history. Of the biggest sellers in music, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Queen are all impressive, with Queen in 2nd place at nearly 400 million units sold. The Beatles, have over 1 billion units sold. Nobody comes anywhere near their reign.
@SaeedReacts. You know you're an extremely cool dude and I quit commenting because I thought you weren't going to check those anymore because it was too much. Anyway I'll continue to comment from now on 💕
Great reaction. I was an American going to high school in London about 2 mi away from this gig when it went down. There wasn't even any press on it the next day, because it hadn't been announced. Yes, this is the last time the boys played together live. But they had another great album ahead of them ... "Abbey Road," recorded six months later.
A few enthusiasts have recommended you watch the "Get Back" series. However, I recommend it only for the most fanatical of Beatles fans (of which I am probably one), because it is extremely long (several installments) & very slow-moving. But do not despair; the last part, the rooftop concert, is well worth watching, including the half-hearted attempts by the police to shut it down.
This was originally from their 1970 movie "Let It Be" which is showing now on Disney+. We'll worth watching. They do around six songs, till the cops make them stop. The album "Let It Be" was the second to last recorded, but the last released, due to them getting bored with the project and filming. They went on to record "Abbey Road" which was their last, and greatest album.
They played on the roof because they were afraid of the crowds. They're contract said they had to perform a live show, so this fulfilled the contract a live show. Turns out they were right to be afraid with John being shot by a fan and George was stabbed by a fan after she broke into his home.
Funny how young reactors are flipping out over a B side that was "in my day," okay to Beatles fans, certainly better than some, but not the main focus as one of the top Beatles songs. It was the flipside to the studio version of the Get Back single released in 1969 in Spring. They did NOT include it on the Let It Be album at all. released around June 1970 in the USA. It was a studio version of Don't Let Me Down on the flip side.
For documentary of The Beatles, 1995's The Beatles Anthology TV series is the official one covers from the beginning to the end, even some 'afterlife'....
Enregistré à l'époque sur le toit de leur maison de disques à Londres, on voit les gens dans la rue très étonnés et surpris, car les anglais n'étaient pas au courant...
It was certain stuffy businesses in the area that called the police. i don;t think the police were mad at all. chances are they had to be firm about stopping the music, it was their job. but they would have rather just stayed to meet the Beatles and watch the show...most of them were young cops. Ringo commented once in an interview it would have been a hilarious way to end the movie - cops taking the Fab Four away in handcuffs, being shoved into the car and driving away.. They should have done it just for the camera as a gag. then they could all sing a chorus of "Help!" for the camera

John announced he was leaving in September 1969. They were told by their new momager/con man Allen Klein to keep quite about it because they had some money from a couple more album releases to make Apple label solvent. Then Paul had enough of that April 10, when he announced in an interview his new solo album and and kind of spilled the beans that the "Beatles were no more."

Two finished clips were made for each of the two songs, all four being video-taped in color. There’s also a short vid on RUclips that’s like a 20 minute primer on the history of the Beatles that might be worth watching, it gives you a great overview without diving into too much detail.
CLASSICCCC SAEED, PART OF THE "ROOFTOP" CONCERT! 👍😊SO THE KEYS PLAYER WAS ( BILLY PRESTON ) YOU MAY KNOW OF A HUGE HIT SONG THAT HE DID: WILL IT GO ROUND IN CIRCLES
Billy Preston’s organ is standout !!!!
Electric piano.
🌸 this was the last time they ever played together
There is an edited version of this video, without the lyric mistakes, on the official Beatles channel. It is the Beatles video with the highest number of views on RUclips. It's not pure "live"- the used some sound from other takes of the same sessions, but it looks live.
Oui j'adore ❤❤❤❤
Damn, I love watching the boys do their thing on that rooftop!
Great song and LIVE in a perfect place of this legendary band !!
Perfect place? They froze their ass off up there on the roof lol. January 30, 1969.
Their Apple roof top performance inspired U2’s video “Where the Streets Have No Name”.
Hi, You have to watch the recovered last film Let it Be and then the documentar y Get Back. Pure beauty❤❤❤
You should see all five songs from this rooftop concert. I think that's when the police shut it down.
This was the last time we ever saw the Beatles together on TV or in a movie or anything else. It was done in business district at lunch time. The streets filled up with people in some business owners complained and the police came to shut them down you can see the police standing around while they finish the set
Oh the good ole days! I saw this at the theater back in the day. I think the movie was called Let it Be. 1970?? Oh the gorgeous hair of the 70's
The fifth Beatle " Billy Preston " is playing piano on this. He was good friends with all of them and often stepped in on a recording session.
John did have a son Julian Lennon he looks like John and sounds like him too. 😊
Love this song and video, all the Beatles looked so Bad-ass. ✌🏽
🔥🔥🔥sooooo good! Definitely one of my favorite songs by them.i believe this occured in 1969, one of my 3 best years for music.
January 1969, end of the month.
I don't know if you've ever really noticed but the true pickers of the bass and the guitar play with their fingers only🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I did!
And i also play guitar with my fingers only. Never really got used to a pick. Love learning fingerstyle arrangements.
Wow! So you were that close? And only found at after?
I read where Ringo said that it was so cold on that roof that his wife gave him her coat.
Listen to Paul McCartney and wings live 1976 what the Beatles could sound like
Thanks for the recommendation.
That was great!👏👏👏
The guys standing dangerously on the slanted roof were spectators
They played on the roof because they were afraid of the crowds. They're contract said they had to perform a live show, so this fulfilled the contract a live show.
Turns out they were right to be afraid with John being shot by a fan and George was stabbed by a fan after she broke into his home.
YEAH SAEED👍, RINGO GETS IGNORED WAYYYYY TOO MUCH, HE WAS AND IS A GREAT DRUMMER AND PERCUSSIONIST IN HIS OWN RIGHT 💯😊GOOD WORK MAN!
Would love to see you reacting to the "Get Back" documentary!. So so good.
Enregistré à l'époque sur le toit de leur maison de disques à Londres, on voit les gens dans la rue très étonnés et surpris, car les anglais n'étaient pas au courant...
This is the take where John forgets the lyrics, they do it again.
Check out A Hard Day's Night. Great movie from their heyday.
This was the last public performance. The Peter Jackson documentary is wonderful.
Thanks for letting me know. Had no idea Peter Jackson also made a documentary.
This song is about the primal fear of abandonment aroused by intense passion.
Billy Preston on electric piano
The official video is an edit that splices this version and the second version together. It doesn't have John's flub on the last verse.
The last time they ever played live.
John Lennon singing was just so sexy
This was "Take 1" and then with "Take 2" Lennon gets the lyrics right.
❤❤❤
It was certain stuffy businesses in the area that called the police. i don;t think the police were mad at all. chances are they had to be firm about stopping the music, it was their job. but they would have rather just stayed to meet the Beatles and watch the show...most of them were young cops. Ringo commented once in an interview it would have been a hilarious way to end the movie - cops taking the Fab Four away in handcuffs, being shoved into the car and driving away.. They should have done it just for the camera as a gag. then they could all sing a chorus of "Help!" for the camera
This wasn’t that many years later.
Interesting that you played the take when John flubbed the lyrics but it’s still gold
IT'S COMIN UP ON ANOTHERRRR SAD ANNIVERSARY DAY SAEED! 😮THE DAY AFTER PEARL HARBOR DAY😮( 8 DEC 1980 ) NEEDLESS, OBSCESSED, MANIAC, PSYCHO KILLER, THE MURDER OF JOHN! ☹
🌸 so December 8th.... is the anniversary of John Lennon's death.💔
Saeed, I think you would enjoy James Corden car karaoke with Paul McCartney.
The oldest was only 29 I believe when they split up, so still young, just not babies! Haven’t seen this angle before of this performance. I wonder if they did it twice, because John messed up that one lyric here. Definitely new footage for me! Beatles forever!
This is the wrong take, John forgot the words in the middle. There's another take of the same song where he got all the words right.
Such a great song but I can't listen to it with thinking of Tim Minchin's Inflatable You 😂😂😂😂😂😂... Don't ask 😂😂😂😂
This isn't a video. This was before music videos and even before video tape. The very first music video was the Bugles, Video killed the radio star" . 1981. There is no such thing as a video from the 50s, 60s or 70s. This is a CLIP from a FILM.
"@mikefetterman6782 : "This was before music videos and even before video tape."
'There is no such thing as a video from the 50s, 60s or 70s.' "
YES THERE IS such a thing as a video promotional clip dating back years before "Video Killed The Radio Star".
They were called "promotional films" for a pop 45 single, and they were shot on either film or videotape, etc.
... and furthermore, both b&w and then color videotape were first introduced In the early 1950s.
For example, on Tuesday November 23, 1965 The Beatles, shooting onto two - inch black-and-white VIDEOTAPE, shot altogether ten multiple or one take(s) for:
"We Can Work It Out" (three versions), "Day Tripper"(three versions), "Help!' (one version), "Ticket To Ride" (one version), and "I Feel Fine" (two versions).
On Thursday May 19 and Friday May 20, 1966 The Beatles shot multiple takes in color 35mm film and both b&w and color videotape for the promo clips for both sides of their latest 45 single, "Paperback Writer" and "Rain".
The 1968 "Hey Jude" and "Revolution" promo films were recorded on Wednesday September 4, 1968 at Twickenham Film Studios (... and as to "Hey Jude", it was NOT performed at David Frost's TV program.
He went out to Twickenham and filmed his introduction there in order to give the illusion to the viewing TV audience that The Beatles were appearing on and in his own TV show's studio, which was NOT the reality at all.)
Two finished clips were made for each of the two songs, all four being video-taped in color.
"The electronics division of entertainer Bing Crosby's production company, Bing Crosby Enterprises (BCE), gave the world's first demonstration of a videotape recording in Los Angeles on November 11, 1951."
"The first commercial professional broadcast quality videotape machines capable of replacing kinescopes were the two-inch quadruplex videotape (Quad) machines introduced by Ampex on April 14, 1956."
"Ampex introduced a color videotape recorder in 1958 in a cross-licensing agreement with RCA, whose engineers had developed it from an Ampex black-and-white recorder.[16]
NBC's special, An Evening With Fred Astaire (1958), is (one of) the oldest surviving television network color videotape, and has been restored by the UCLA Film and Television Archive.
GREATEST ????????????????????? :)
Not 10 years, try 6 years from their first albums in ‘64
He forgot the lyrics, that the version here
Your dad jokes are worse than my husband's. 🤦♀️
