QOR Watercolor paints sounds SO promising! 🤭💖💜 I really like the fact that they don't dry shiny - that was a bit of a struggle when I used student grade paints most of the time. It was so interesting to have learned about the properties of QOR's binder!

I just bought the QOR mini palette and it’s stunning! A year ago they changed how they pour their half pans in the palettes. Before they used to fill them like other companies where they would make a cylinder of each color then hand cut them down to fit in a half pan. NOW they dry the paints, crush them into a fine powder and compress them in half pans. Now they have this matte finish to them and grainy looking texture in the pan. I agree that they spread! Holy cow do they spread. I did a dispersion test on each color and just the tip of my brush on wet paper spread so much and it looked almost like a spider web. Super cool! I’m excited to paint with them

Good morning and thanks for your view of Qor watercolors. I also like them a lot but, don't use them as much as you. Arches is french and is pronounced Arsh in the original french pronunciation. I always wondered because everyone spells it differently and looked it up.
There are a lot of single pigment colors in student grade. For example Schmincke Akademie offers 16 different single pigment colors from their 24 color range. Van Gogh watercolors has around 27 single pigment colors (I may have miscounted but they still have enough of them). Cotman has 25 single pigment colors. I didn't look up the other brands, only those 3 because they're highly used at my location. Of course student grade has a lower pigment concentration than artist grade, also doesn't uses expensive pigments like cobalt, cadmiums, real viridian or potters pink etc.
Oh and I wanted to say your art is really gorgeous 😍 really beautiful

Thanks for this review Alice. I too love Qor paints. I have quite a few types of professional watercolors but when I tried Qor I was hooked. I feel like I should use up what I have before I invest in more of their paints, but that is a difficult thing to do. So far, I've been strong and resisted the pull.😄😇

    Really enjoyed this painting!
Qor does not get enough love. They are my favorites too! It's made by Golden, and everything I've tried from them has been great quality. Also, about shine? They have, "Watercolor Medium," that increase strength, body, and gloss of the paint. Even brighter! But wait! There's more! They also have, "Lift Aid," which you spray on the paper first, to make it easier to lift. Really, I should work for this brand, ha. They also just came out with a pan set of shimmery paints. The new pan sets look nice. I want all of them..
Hey @GoldenPaints - Send our girl here some QOR paints, Watercolor Medium, and LiftAid to demo!.
(Arches- Arshhh(a), just lift off the end- barely an e- no s).

I should try the lift aid! I bought the QOR mini and they are super staining! Which after searching the pigment info etc on their website it did confirm that most are high staining and kinda hard to lift. But I love the intensity of the colors. They do dry a bit softer so it’ll be a learning curve when painting. Thanks for sharing the products

Arches Paper depending upon where you live can be pronounced differently! My local art store said Sounds like McDonalds Golden "Arches" Ar'chay if you have a french dependency or leaning. and I have heard it Arch with nothing on the end Like the St. Louis Arch! Since I love Hamburgers I will always say Arches as in McDonalds You want fries with that? I do hope you having a lovely evening Alice!

Trying them out and for students I would recommend the Earth set if you can only afford one. It has the core : red, yellow, blue (plus a sap green and raw umber). The high chroma is well … it’s fun.

Hullo Alice, I have tried QoR paints before and I thought they just were to runny! I believe you have made them behave and if I was not already completely fascinated with DaVinci Paints I might give them another go! So glad your using your Dad's palette, it looks lovely and to get such a unique tool is a true gift of a loved one! I do hope you do more work with The Earth Friendly Palette from Denise Soden! This is a wonderful palette that I am still discovering just how wonderful these selection of paints truly are!

Well, you’ve sold me on it. I was debating what watercolor tube to spend the remainder of a gift card on (upgrading to a decent microphone for recording music as well, very excited about that), & I’ve always wanted to try QoR, but I’d also wanted to try a number of others… I almost went for a Jackson’s Watercolor, because the prices looked too good to be true, & the thumbnail swatches look stunning… Buy I went & watched a couple reviews, & it seems like they may be pretty misleading. Sounds like despite being 21ml for an astoundingly low price, they are very little pigment swimming in a lot of gum Arabic, so I guess it was too good to be true. I’m also tempted to try Rosa Gallery, because I’ve heard they really are pretty much artist quality for a budget price… But I don’t want “close to artist quality-“ I want something that’ll knock my socks off! And the more artisanal watercolors I’ve been seeing online that look amazing aren’t on Amazon, so I can’t use the gift card for those.
Instead, after seeing this & a couple other reviews, I narrowed it down: QoR it is. And because their swatch/thumbnail for Bohemian Green Earth looks absolutely gorgeous (& from the reviews it seems like theirs might actually be a reasonably accurate representation), I’m going with that one for my first taste of QoR! The options were all tempting (I believe that’s the brand that had a “cerulean cobalt” (all cerulean is cobalt, but they labeled it that way) that looked absolutely radiant, but I already have some nice cerulean blue, so I’m holding off on that. Their Venetian red also looks stellar… I guess that’s an odd choice of words since it looks very terrestrial, very earthy, but it looks SO vibrant & beautifully granular, like lovely red sediment.
Just hope the QoR/Aquazol plays nicely with my more traditional gum Arabic watercolors.

Two things: the proper French pronunciation of ARCHES paper is ARSH. In the US, everyone says ARCHES (ar-chezz, like McDonald's Golden Arches). There's no accent mark, so it's def not Ar-shay. Also, that opaque sort of shinysurface you get with too much paint has a name: BRONZING. It's not a good thing. If it dries shiny, you've used too much paint. Try building up thin glazes of dark colors; that will help maintain transparency.
My students and I have been wondering about QOR paints for ages, so thanks for this review. I'll give them a try!

I was hoping for some sort of review, not just a re-hash of what I can read for myself on the website! No talk about individual colours, no swatching, what the heck? I was disappointed with this video, to say the least.
