I wish they had a phone number to call. I'm really disappointed in the support. I tried to send this earlier but my response disappeared. Starlink support answered my first question. With more questions, understandable. That was 2 days ago. No reply back yet. I have thirty days to send this back. Three hundred bucks might mean much to Elon but it sure the fuck matters to me. I've gone through their "support" and been on RUclips trying to get answers. Without any luck.

I live in rural Chile and have starlink. I have used it off an atenna relay from my neighbors unit about 150 meters away for about 2 years. The system has given me the most reliable internet than anything I had in the USA since the Netscape days. Last week my neighbor bought a new router that does not send a signal to me. So I have just ordered my own personal system for my casita. My biggest problems were not with starlink, but apps promising one thing then giving something else and trying to charge for it. Also AI is spreading over youTube faster than liver through a Goose. BUT I appreciate you JCristina. Vaya con Dios

Advantages I see in the near future for ALL Starlinkers is the granting of more power from the FCC AND the lower altitude license from NASA. The closer to Earth the "web" of satilites, the closer together they'll be. This translates to more concentrated coverage with fewer satilites required - saving Starlink a few shekels in the bargain. All this will be benificial to us all. Thanks again. I close with a Pink Poop Emoji - plop.

Just a thought: Consider the possibility of satellites providing solar power downloads sourced from its own arrays as well as inference compute & Internet/network communications, a self-contained node perhaps? No way?!

    • @VernonJettlund
      @VernonJettlund Месяц назад

      Talk about 'edge computing'.
The largest practical problem is in how to dump waste heat from any kind of compute in space. There also has to be sufficient battery to make it around the 'dark' side of the Earth, all LEO satellites spend a not insignificant fraction of their time in our shadow. This also makes any kind of power beaming impractical.
If you push the satellite further out, you can better manage power (if not cooling) but your latency and signal strength both suffer.
So, aside from problems with loss when beaming power from space, it isn't very practical.

The reason for the confusion is that Starlink doesn't publish the technical specifications of their equipment. That leaves an environment for speculation. I suspect the new dish has different components that can handle more power than the previous dishes. Therefore, can produce both transmit and receive power that can be adjusted remotely. Evidently, Starlink FCC approval for more power is highly anticipated. Otherwise, why would they offer this kit?

Starlink needs to explore more ground stations for more power, the battery units need to harvest that power and to store so it is reusable or routed to a different ground station, the dish that is connected to the enterprise uplink will serve no particular purpose because of the speed limitations and bandwidth constraints and will be relatively the same. I have said this before Elon /SpaceX should consider working on a new form of electric power grid that can give them the power consumption relay they need, right now the State and the Federal can supply that said power so this new enterprise addition feels like a con to me.

Interesting proposition. What I do not understand is why POE. The POE would be on the network side between the power brick and the corporate router/switch. That corporate router will have its own power source and cannot run on POE. It would make sense the the customer-owned router would have POE to provide devices connected to the network with power. The things that come to mind would be access points, security cameras, and VoIP phones. While I would agree the Enterprise side of the power brink would need to provide power to the dish. That is true for all Starlink dishes, and I would suggest it is not POE.

Sound like a typical musk scam to increase revenues.
As for shipping equipment with higher power output only limited by software or firmware, seems to run counter to FCC approved design principles for radio transmitters. Maybe things have changed but it was always a design principle that transmitter power levels be hardware limited. The approved devices are supposed to be limited by the physical hardware design itself and the concept of having higher capabilities built in, which could be modified without physical hardware changes, was something not allowed in approved designs.
There are good reasons why these principles were always physically limited power outputs. The concept was about approving designs that could not easily be modified to exceed approved power output levels. The devices must not be capable of exceeding limits or creating interference without major modifications. When power outputs are in the milliwatt levels, this becomes a bit harder to do with modern circuitry designs. But at higher levels in watts, it ultimately gets down to discrete components with physical circuits limiting outputs. This has always made good sense.
Say that the FCC does not approve Musk's request, (which they shouldn't), Then they would have all these devices out there capable of exceeding power output levels. Maybe not delivering excessive power, but easily being modified to do so. That's not a good thing because someone will figure out how to defeat the software limits. I question how they could legally put these out there. Technically, the device itself is required to have the appropriate FCC verification number. A different design can't legally use the old FCC certification, nor can they legally label them with another certification that doesn't yet exist.
To many, all this may seem like excessive regulation, but it isn't because if any company can just make and sell whatever they want, it ultimately creates chaos. Individual users may not care that they exceed the actual real limits. Odds are slim that enforcement of the standards would seek them out and fine them for exceeding limits. This is why the regulation must occur at the manufacturing levels. If you don't have these rule and regulations in place, what's to stop someone from designing a system to specifically interfere with or even damage Starlink satellites?? Arguably, there would be nothing preventing this. We all know that Musk hates the FCC and tries to ignore or circumvent their regulations, because he thinks he knows better. If you want to play the game, you need to play by the rules. You may not like the rules and think they limit you, but they also limit those who would devise equipment with detrimental effects.
We have big enough problems with China making all sorts of devices that don't meet our standards and releasing dangerous equipment into the market place. We need rules and regulations and circumventing them is not a good thing.

No I will never buy. They cannot fix common issues now! I get frequent buffering an downtime. They need to take care of business first. It just gets to be more money all the time. Beginning to second guess my decision with starlink.

Comcast quoted me $9,000+ to run 230’ to my house….thats just installation. Yes it’s $50 cheaper and faster per month, but Starlink has been a better option for me.
