i just bought the 2 seasons of the old shows and love the sense of time and now i can look back and understand what they the brothers stood for and am sorry that many of this young up n coming generation havent a clue back to those times of war, etc and esp with just 3 tv stations. now its a self serving attitude with most of the young i find and i long for anything that reminds me of yes, the good ol days!
I was too young to understand their humor or cultural impact in 1968 ( I was only 11 at the time), but I can only now appreciate their impact and influence on life in the U.S. These guys were awesome.
Brings back such great memories! I can imagine that if they would have another reunion (if only) they'd look and act exactly the same. Tommy's timing is spot on ain't it?
Wow !!!Forgot how good they were/are. Thanks so much for this video, and RUclips for all the Smothers Bros sketches."Brill". Check out the American Guild D55 !!! I think Tom was the first ever to own one back in the 60s. The best sounding acoustic guitar ever...........
I remember the opening to this had Tom and Dick in a helicopter landing at Century City. They said something like "Tom Wolfe was wrong, you can go home again." After they said this a guy with a bazooka is shown at the heliport and he fires at the Smothers helicopter as they begin to scream.
I heard Howard Stern say, about the 20th reunion show,"What's the Big Deal?" He should count his blessings for these guys!! I haven't really listened to Stern since that idiotic comment!!
I remember when they were cancelled and thought at the time CBS censors were stupid. SB were ahead of their time. Laughed until I cried with their skits! ♥
This was the late 80's and I still found his show amusing. Then he made that statement and I pretty much just turned him off. Once in a while I would tune in, but It got old , redundant & predictable so I just cut it out all together.
TeachESL I was actually fortunate enough to see the both of them perform in 2009 at Peekskill. Shortly after that, they sadly retired from performing. Luckily, no one passed away. ...Yet.
Too bad they've retired. Read somewhere Dicky has Alzeimers and is having a bad time. Tommy has just received an award for his writing of the 60's series, where he backed out so the other writers would get a lot of credit for the comedy (i.e. George Carlin, Steve Martin, etc.). Too bad they can't come back, but would love to see the re-runs.
@fergy429 i saw a relatively recent interview with them on Craig Ferguson (here on youtube), they're both completely white now but their timing was as brilliant at ever. And yes, Tommy is spot on. It's an irony that you have to be really smart to play dumb that well.
Any one who havent taken time to see just far ahead of there times as the smothers brothers was needs to invest just 30 minutes and watch.. I dont think they still havent caught up to just how special they was to tv.
@Nickcat5 - Yeah, Stern has made a lot of idiotic comments and remarks, and one of the reasons he has lost so much of his audience - me included. I have no idea how he stays on the air.
@alwayssme I was a listener THEN,Just felt he overstepped it. I used to enjoy his show,But that and a few other things sort of turned me away. Tom & Dick were great and didn't seem so self-absorbed . Fans of REAL comedy know the difference.
@teachESL Dick is my grandparents neighbor and is doing great! Very fit and chipper! I got the pleasure of meeting him yesterday
Still great 20 years later.
@ianjcameron Revolution!!! Bring back the show!
Dude, I'm FULL on with that. Loved these guys, growing up as a kid, and they're still great.
They were overlooked & underrated as singers and musicians.

I remember watching this live.
I was too young to understand their humor or cultural impact in 1968 ( I was only 11 at the time), but I can only now appreciate their impact and influence on life in the U.S. These guys were awesome.
It's good that there are all these videos of these two great performers. Otherwise they would be lost to history. i love them.

Please! I would love to see the re-runs. Loved this show.
Excellent video clip!

Give these guys their show back!

Tommy Smothers for President.
I remember when they were cancelled and thought at the time CBS censors were stupid. SB were ahead of their time. Laughed until I cried with their skits! ♥
Back when TV was worth watching...
Nice to see that again, thanks.
I saw the Yo yo man, now this
if only... don't we ALL wish this???
all of them
That was FUNEEEEEEE!!!!
If you're a fan , read the book "Dangerously Funny"
Didn't Pat Paulson announce his candidacy during Laugh In?
Putting their comedic talents aside, their singing is a hundred times better than anything they trot out today.
Sarcasm lesson: "that was not a compliment"
@catdude57 I just bought that book! It's really good!

@redsox1006 In 1988, Ronald Reagan was president, and George Bush (senior) was running against Michael Dukakis.
where's part 2?
Who was the president joke aimed at?
They are still working...why not another show?
How old are they today? Do they still perform? I grew up watching them on tv. Loved them.
Sadly i believe Tom passed away in 2010.
Ahhh. Sorry to hear that. Another part of my youth gone.
TeachESL I was actually fortunate enough to see the both of them perform in 2009 at Peekskill. Shortly after that, they sadly retired from performing. Luckily, no one passed away. ...Yet.
James Ramirez Tom isn't dead. The Smothers Brothers have retired from performing though.

They are doing a farewell tour of sorts. Have been for the past 4 months - they began at the Johnny Carson Theater in NE.
The biggest mistake CBS ever made.... they lost their ass. The people loved the Smothers Brothers !!

tommy and dick smothers at the democratic convention was the best i ever seen them... they was so far ahead of there time it was scarey.
Any one who havent taken time to see just far ahead of there times as the smothers brothers was needs to invest just 30 minutes and watch.. I dont think they still havent caught up to just how special they was to tv.
They died CBS and won

HA! 3:58
I wanna be a yo-yo man

thank goodness they're unlike all those right-wing folk singers.
