    This ride sat on a piece of history. It used the same station that housed the failed prototype that was The Bat (the original from 1981, not the renamed one that still operates). I hope they didn't demolish the building too, it deserves to be preserved and reused.

      Vortex had the same historic value as The Beast IMO. Before it opened in '87 there was really no other coaster like it (regarding it's size and numbers of inversions).
      I wish they decided to retrack it (like The Viper just a year before), instead of close and demolish it within those few months...

    Shame to see it leave last year. Maybe a last ditch attempt to save it with new brakes, two Vekoma vest restraint trains instead of three and re-tracking work would have been good but we can't change what has happened. Hope Viper sticks around.

    • @StormsparkPegasus
      @StormsparkPegasus 4 года назад +3

      Maybe...but ultimately, Arrow has been gone for a long time, and as their coasters age they are probably going to be taken down more and more frequently. I'm actually surprised this was taken down before Corkscrew. Corkscrew is a similar coaster, but 11 years older than Vortex, and still operating. Vortex must've been accumulating problems over the years that would've been too expensive to fix. I imagine that with the manufacturer gone, it was a nightmare to get replacement parts. And I'm assuming that Vortex has just had more things break down than Corkscrew.

    • @spider0804
      @spider0804 4 года назад +2

      @@StormsparkPegasus Corkscrew is one of the first so they keep it around as a showpiece / nostalgia magnet.

I rode it over the course of 13yrs and never got off it with a headache or felt like I had a rough ride. The ride will be missed by almost everyone, I pray the replace it with an inversion heavy coaster.

    I last rode it in 2018. It was a hot day without a lot of wind. There was no airflow at all through the station that day, it was awful. The coaster itself smelled like the nastiest sweaty locker room you can ever imagine, times 10. It was absolutely nauseating, and it did not get any better once it was moving - the stagnant air just stayed in the cars. I almost threw up 3 times from the smell. Corkscrew at Cedar Point is a very similar model (if a bit smaller) and it never had that issue.

    This removal was made so much worse considering every single enthusiast who said this ride was garbage before now saying it's been giving the best rides in years. I've only ridden it in 2019, and I never found it rough. Nowhere even close to other examples in the same park (red-side Racer, yikes). Truly a loss.
    The absolute worst part is that KI has no memorial for this ride whatsoever. Clearly it was sentimental to a lot of people, but they couldn't even be bothered to put a grave marker in Banshee's queue or something obvious like that. What a shame.

      Arrow went out of business in 2002. When the manufacturer is no longer in business, replacement parts are no longer produced, and they are a nightmare to get. Parts fail over time. Corkscrew (a similar model to this but 11 years older) is still operating at Cedar Point, I can only assume it had fewer maintenance issues, due to being smaller. The more cutting edge something is when it is made, the more problems it will have. Coasters that are a first of their kind often have a lot more problems than tried and true designs.
