It took them a long time to cross around all of Eurasia and Africa and some ships were not even in fighting shape by the time they arrived. The Russian fleet was ambushed at Tsushima by a Japanese fleet that was in far better condition and had greater numbers. It stood no chance and was almost entirely annihilated by the Japanese. So the lyrics are accurate.
It was also really impressive how quick the Japanese (after being forced to open their borders to trade) advanced in naval technology. The Japanese Ship that spotted the russian fleet in the night had a Wireless telegraph to communicate to the main fleet, while the Russians had none. Also the Japanese fleet made 15knots speed while the russians only made about 12knots speed.
