What I like about this album is that, in most screamo albums, the vocals are way higher in the mix than the instruments, but with these guys, the instruments are just as loud and aggressive.
@ben122692 can i explain why? lol. probably not since i wasn't there making the record. why wouldn't these guys have heard burzum? anybody with the internet can hear burzum. varg is the most popular figure in black metal, and he's not that hard to stumble across if you frequent extreme music circles.
Great review and correct rating :). Was afraid you had overlooked this one, glad you didn't. Album is superb, it's just so balanced and wonderfully executed. Love the denser and more concise sound that they've managed to create. Fav tracks would probably be Fly By Night, Uniform and both Trilogy 4 & 6.
@betoleal81 you're right about these guys fitting into a specific mold. they do--in some ways--fit into the that sound / style. however, what's so refreshing about this record to me is that it's in that sound / style and i actually LIKE IT, ya know? i thought these guys reached higher levels of intensity, melody, and passion than most bands shooting for something similar to this. that's just me. *shrugs*
I'll definitely look into this, the Sailboats demo is the greatest demo I've ever heard, and I've been meaning to look into Loma Prieta for ages. By the way, I would love it if you reviewed Rainbow Road by Alvin Band, it's probably the best Animal Collective album since Feels if you get what I'm saying, so damn good.
...Woah...ok, I got through this whole album in one sitting. Not my cup 'o tea, but an absolutely extraordinary piece! I've never head a more abrasive album in any genre, personally. I had to crack my neck when it was over because I didn't realize I had my neck and shoulders tensed the whole time. "Biography" blew my mind, it's probably the only song I could stomach again. I'm glad I heard the album but will probably not be returning to it. Good call though Anthony!
It wasn't until I moved away from screamo-- which was the first non 'singing' music I listened to, before betting into death metal-- that I realized how much I really love screamo. Holds a special place in my heart, and this band is pretty legit.
Anthony, I've been saying this a lot, but seriously PLEEEEAAAASE review Errors - Have Some Faith In Magic. For someone who loves Mogwai, you would at least take a shine to them, as their constantly compared to and promoted by them. They're aren't exactly post-rock, but there's the details of it in their sound. It's an absolutely gorgeous album and could do with the exposure! I reckon you'd love it, go oonnnnn, have some faith in errors! :D
I listened to about 8 songs in random order after getting excited from the praise Anthony gave this album Although I enjoy their sound and aggression I felt most of the songs I listened to were far to samey and simplistic to listen to multiple times I feel the songs needed more dynamics and complexity to make them more interesting If they can do that yet keep their power and aggression I could see myself getting into this band maybe I should listen to the whole album or he bands older stuff
Spot on. Light 9. Glad to have picked up the first pressing when it was released. Have had a relationship ever since. I enjoy the parallels to black metal and CNVRG. Looking forward to new LOMA. -J
I checked out this album and immediately thought they sounded just like Curl Up And Die. This was good because Loma is obviously intense and I loved the heavy, aggressive sound. I just think it's good for a once-through, though. I don't really listen to the one CUAD album I have anymore (One Above All, The End Of All That Is) because of this aspect too. Sweet listen-through, though! I know you already reviewed Alcest's latest, but check out Black Pyramids's new album II.
Nice review. Sounded like you were reviewing Misery Signals' first LP. No album mixes aggression and sadness better than Of Malice and the Magnum Heart.
The Saddest Landscape - After the Lights, released in January of this year. Phenomenal screamo and early emo revival. One of the most intense emotional records released so far.
I was wondering what you think about the Belgium 'funeral folk' act Silvester Anfang. I do not know if you're familiar with them but I think it's a quite interesting band/collective
Can you review Lupe Fiasco's 'Friend of the People'? Lupe has adapted a new sound and it seems people either love it, or hate it. I would love to hear your opinion. Thanks
i don't know if you did a review on them but if you haven't can you do a review on the inexperienced? amazon has one of their songs for free called Statesman about a year or so go and i love it but i wonder if you could do a review on them or if you ever heard of them before?
Thanks for putting me on Pageninetynine, Slambango. Glad you review stuff like this, would like to see more in 2015!
What I like about this album is that, in most screamo albums, the vocals are way higher in the mix than the instruments, but with these guys, the instruments are just as loud and aggressive.
anthony reviewing skramz...2012 melon was something special
@K0STGO31 glad you're digging it. :-)
@FrequentFly3r correct?
@variationofbirds how would one do that?
@wwe4life4 not sure if i will. i'm considering doing the album if i like it, tho.
@Xplisit23 yes i do.
@wutangskramz yes i did.
@Argedillaso is that a 2012 album?
@Hllblzr310 sadly, that black pyramid LP is too old to review. :-(
@lepricon989 happy to be of service.
@DJPerdy i'm considering it.

@ben122692 can i explain why? lol. probably not since i wasn't there making the record. why wouldn't these guys have heard burzum? anybody with the internet can hear burzum. varg is the most popular figure in black metal, and he's not that hard to stumble across if you frequent extreme music circles.

@daveatmizzou what song did you hear?
@ChewyTWY yes you did.
@johnnygonline i'll look it up. :-)
Great review and correct rating :). Was afraid you had overlooked this one, glad you didn't.

@CTDBlog my bad.
@jelenacosic27 i'm not sure. get back to me with some accurate numbers and we'll look them over.
@TakerFan72 huh?
@polentza ok, but only if you do it gently.
awesome review, definitely one of my favorites to come out this year so far
@TheMessianicManic agreed!
Lovin' the skramz reviews! Your explanation of the coinciding of anger and sadness was spot on! I'll definitely check this out now.
@Iwastman O____o yes?
@txhc05 glad you love it. :-)
@cyclone927 it's ok. i know it's not for everybody. :-)
@IntangibleTurptitude oh, they tweeted it? nice!
Falling in love with this record!
@Rewwgh and i sure did! :-)
@GREENWARRI0R glad you dug it. :-)
@mattattack418 you don't? i thought some of the heavy riffs and blast beats made it a contender for that. have you heard the whole thing?
I was already stoked to listen to this, a strong 8 from you definately bumps that up even higher
@Samodrei HELL YEAH IT DO!
@PhantomBunny888 i'd definitely freak out, because how could i drive and intro at the same time?!!?!?!?
@tomujio i'll be giving the album a full listen this week. then i'll decide if i want to review it. :-)
@bbeaup you didn't find the songs pretty catchy?
For some reason I've been ignoring Loma Prieta's new material. I definitely need to check this album about. Oh, and great review as always.
@stillill124 hope you like it! :-)
@CarlHH777 nice!
@ussop92 that was the goal!
@AndrewGarnica sadly, i wasn't into it. :-/
@18SINGH18 it's difficult to compile such a list since i've heard so many albums. :-(
Awesome album. I love how harshness and tenderness meld so well on this album and the noisy build up in forgetting is thrilling to say the Least.
hell yea man, i'm really glad you reveiewed this album. It would be cool if your reviewed birds in row collected lp next
@CKtestvids the metalcore band that hasn't dropped an album since '10? is that your question?
I bought my dad that shirt for christmas. I also bought myself that shirt for christmas. Excellent work, Fontano.
@TLNoir if more hits me in the right way, i will. :-)
please do the underdark by funeral diner
@kamaruegabri hell yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Best of the year so far in my book. Nice review!
@LoKimLinProject sometimes, my head gets itchy. *shrugs*
Nice detailed review man, nice to see a good variety in the music you choose to :)
@YouDumbZombie i'm a casual fan.
@deadlanguageMA i'll look 'em up. :-)
@theneedledrop and Im glad you did! Love the genre, and enjoy watching you review it AND like it.
Document #8 for the win
@LidlFisken they coo.
@KyleSmithhh OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
can you do a reiview for Birds In Row?
I'll definitely look into this, the Sailboats demo is the greatest demo I've ever heard, and I've been meaning to look into Loma Prieta for ages.

@stumbleinexyu glad it somehow affected you, heh. :-)
Album is fantastic. Probably not my favourite Loma album but it blows my fricken mind

@ThePuddleJumpr good luck!
@TheGreatIndoors1979 and the music couldn't be further from that.
Gonna see em tonight, so stoked.
Couldn't get into Loma until they released this one. It's their best yet. good review.

I love this Album. It´s great in all this points you said and in particular the sound and the trilogy songs is/are AWESOME. Great Review!

Nice review. Sounded like you were reviewing Misery Signals' first LP. No album mixes aggression and sadness better than Of Malice and the Magnum Heart.
the album is brutal, intense, but somehow deep, kinda tender
I got excited when I saw "powerviolence," but I don't really hear it in this album. That being said, I do enjoy it so far, thanks Fant
@fuckzachary glad you dig it. :-)
The Saddest Landscape - After the Lights, released in January of this year.
Phenomenal screamo and early emo revival.
One of the most intense emotional records released so far.
holy shit anthony digs loma prieta
Loma Prieta is touring with Converge next month I think.
But seriously, review Lil B - White Flame! Might be his best mixtape lol
@del4m3u lol, wut? :-P
i'm seeing these guys with Converge in April, can't wait.
I was wondering what you think about the Belgium 'funeral folk' act Silvester Anfang. I do not know if you're familiar with them but I think it's a quite interesting band/collective
Thank you anthony and deathwish, you guys helped me find this awesome band.
this album is still unbelievably good
Can you review Lupe Fiasco's 'Friend of the People'? Lupe has adapted a new sound and it seems people either love it, or hate it. I would love to hear your opinion. Thanks
Skramthony Skramtano RIP. How the mighty have fallen
This album is unbelievably good...
