    Most of the time, when you see the diagonal bar at the corners, it's just there to help keep the horizontal spacing between the bars uniform. Helps stop the bars from getting dislodged as you are tying the bars together and transitioning around the corner. The metal chairs you used are meant for wood forms or elevated concrete on metal decking, not to be sitting on soil. Also, along the same lines, the small welded bar on the vertical bars was another mistake. Both of these situations allows water to migrate up to your main structural steel reinforcing, and will eventually rust and weaken it. It's better to use plastic when in direct contact with soils to keep water off the steel and eliminating rusting. There are pre-made plastic saddles that you can place under the horizontal bars as well as at each end of the horizontal leg of your L shaped vertical bars, and then wire tie to the horizonal main bars. For this structure, probably going to be alright, but just for future knowledge. Another great video, and really enjoying the series.

      Agreed, in outside environments, you'd ideally have about 1 3/8" coverage minimum (35mm, Aggressive environment) at any given point. In coastal areas, you'd want about 1 3/4" (45mm, Extra Aggressive environment).
      Normal iron/steel sticking out will corrode and wick moisture to the rebar inside.

      You had me half worried for a second then I remembered how short my life is and I relaxed into knowing that rebar is going to outlast me and even if it doesn't it won't matter. That in no way has a bearing on your good advice and I will not forget this going forward for more critical applications. Thanks.

    It takes six hours from where we live to get to MD Anderson. On our way to Houston I would set my phone up for her to watch your channel on the drive out there. You can imagine how tough it was coming back after a days worth of chemo. I would just like you to know how helpful watching your channel is to us.

      I'm sorry for your loss.

    • @homemadehome5575
      @homemadehome5575  16 дней назад +7

      I'm mildly at a loss of how to respond, not because I'm a stranger to death but because I don't know you. One could say why say anything at all but I assume someone who says what you said is looking for something otherwise you would not say it, perhaps an assumption. I honestly like making videos, I think it is fun, editing is enjoyable, I've learned to like the music part of it which is not easy for me. To be honest while I appreciate the fact that people watch my videos it's not something I focus on, I simply think it is fun to do, it seems to be working for me and still like doing it. But occasionally I get comments, emails, etc that really ground it back on the viewer. Examples would be people that quit serious full time jobs to do similar work as me after being inspired by my videos or situations like your where the videos where comforting or entertaining during tough times. So I do appreciate your comment. I'm not going to act like there isn't a few people that would floor me if they died but something that has helped me with the idea of death is that everyone who has ever lived before us died and everyone going forward will die. So we are no different than anyone else when people around us die or when we die. Being sad about a loss is normal but you do have to watch how you handle it and work towards being ok with it. There's endless ways of going about it but to me it's mostly mental/spiritual. I myself am a Christian so that frames how I think of these things which is both comforting and uncomfortable at the same time. I have no idea what your thoughts are on the matter and Im not gonna try to convince you of anything but I know for me that one day I was compelled to read a Bible out of the blue when I saw one sitting on a table. I went to church as a child for years, like many other people and was familiar with the Bible on a shallow but decent level, in short I was an average church goer that could have a religious conversation and not be lost but didn't really take it serious at all...fast forward 20ish years after not going to church, reading a bible or thinking about God much and I picked up that Bible, opened it to Genesis and read a few pages then felt compelled to go straight to the New Testament, In about 30 minutes I went from my normal to so guilty feeling about everything I could think of, certain ways I was living my life, etc. This may sound bad but I consider it good. The funny part is I was previously aware of the story of the New Testament and especially Jesus. I didn't pick up the Bible wanting or expecting anything, I just did it and something profound happened. I started reading the Bible immediately, started going to church every Sunday (Sunday school and Sermon), teach children church and befriended the preacher. I'll say it has had it's ups and downs but I went from having no interest to doing all this plus more without any stimulus other than reading something I already new about. I don't want to preach to you as again, I don't know what you think about all this but I realize now that my reasons for not believing was doubt put in my head by basically ignorant, angry people. When I took the time to read it myself, use a study bible, look into the things that confuse or interest me it shifted how I thought. Forgive me if this is offensive to you, I would have been turned off by it, so I have to assume that it is a possibility for you or others but what I can tell you is that while I am far from a perfectly even keeled sinless gentlemen it has made me a better husband and father and have made major changes to my life. If I boiled all this down to one piece of advice it would be read a the Bible, I read the ESV (English Standard Version). Then I would listen to sermons online of topics in the Bible that interest you. Some preachers I'd suggest are R.C. Sproul, Paul Washer and John MacArthur. There are many more. Sproul is a master. Washer is intense but very passionate. MacArthur is an incredible teacher and takes the mystery and ignorance out of how I viewed the Bible, especially my doubt based on misconceptions. Other than the reading of the Bible, my only warning or defense would be don't confuse the practice of Christianity with Christianity. Christianity is the belief that Jesus Christ, God incarnate lived a perfect sinless life with all temptation present, then was crucified and in some way we can't comprehend took on all the sin of man to pay a price that we can't so that we can have eternal life. This is what is known as the "Gospel" or "Good News" ....my nutshell version that is. The only convincing that I will do is to say that you or others reading this have nothing to lose if it's all bologna. Christianity as a practice moves you towards being more like Jesus, a servant of others. I'm sorry for the loss of your mother and will pray for her and you. Your mother would not want you to be in pain. Read Mathew, Mark, Luke and John in the New Testament and try to find someone in more of a pickle than you are and help them, it will get your thinking off yourself and on to helping them. Let me know if I can do anything for you or how else I can be praying for you.

    You had to wrap the trench to insulate the concrete. In your case concrete will suck all moisture from the ground. When you put the timber wall on top of that concrete simply use the insulation membrane, so timber will not suck the moisture from the concrete.

    • @homemadehome5575
      @homemadehome5575  16 дней назад +1

      My view on building is to do a good job, not a perfect job and while I know that a membrane is simple, there's a thousand simple things one could do. Not a slight on your advice but just that I make my decisions based on a reasonable time span. As of right now, with basic maintenance, this building could easily be around 100 years from now and that's plenty far past me and my children for me. My precautions are take good care of the roof, don't seal up the building so tight that if it does get wet it can't dry, overbuild where easy and don't forget you could die tomorrow. The other thing that comforts me is that multiple houses I own or have owned are 100 yearsish old, were built poorly with inadequate materials, poorly maintained and still standing. With all that nonsense said, I plan on putting something on top of the concrete wall, then a treated plate, then the framed wall up from there. I'll also spray the framing with Boracare for insects. Thanks.

    Nice work! But do you need rebar there? Rebar is to make the concrete stronger so it wont break. But with the ground below it would probably not break? Your not building a 3 story house hehehe

      rebar in the footer helps it not crack if there is any settling, low areas, etc. The rebar work also ties the footer to the wall. If the footer has an issue, the wall will have an issue. I think I also state in the video, that I use occasions like this to learn certain process when they are not as critical, that way in the future when I'm doing something bigger I'm already familiar with what to do.

    I can tell this is mostly women commenting. 😂😂
    Probably looking for an untucked shirt….
    But since my husband works on construction of roads (I hear a lot about this for the last 28 years) we both were gasping at the over wet concrete! We were then horrified at the fact that even after seeing it too wet more water was added! I know it’s just a work barn but if you are going to hire out the job first be ready to test it and see if you actually got the amount you paid for and at the strength you paid for. He may have been a nice fella but in construction if you don’t know what you are talking about you will be taken advantaged of.
    I hope you are your family are well. God bless.

      I think he added too much water but it will be ok in this situation. I’m going to make sure it didn’t happen on the walls.

      I will be showing videos on that house soon, just needing to attend to other things right now. I've done more detailed updates in several videos saying why.

    Welp, it seems you're that exact on all your projects. You can build my house. In fact, you can build my dog house and bird house.
