Bishop Barron - you are a walking, talking Homily Aid! What a blessing you are to so many of we priests. I often swipe your material and people commend me on my homily. I just tell them to thank Bishop Barron.

Perhaps we need to concentrate less on how Our Lord was like us and more on how we can conform ourselves to, become more like, Him. If we did that, there might be more peace and love and less sin in the world.

Thank you Bishop Barron! I especially love the part about how Cardinal George told the seminarians that they are not priests if they just drop moral truths on people and walk away, but rather they need to stand with them and bear the burdens with them (not that God's truths are burdensome in and of themselves, as our second reading today told us they are not, but we all have burdens that still come as a result of living by God's laws). And the idea of Jesus coming down and standing side-by-side with us sinners, and sacrificing himself, reminds me of how Venerable Fulton Sheen would always say a priest is to be a priest-victim. They should not only share in Christ's priesthood but also his victimhood. I thank our priests who stand with us as Christ stood with those in the Jordan!
God bless you Bishop! I shall pray for you.

I suspect that if we all truly understood the words "for God so LOVED the world" we'd lead very different lives. If we truly knew how much God loved us we'd LEAP out of bed every day, be truly joyful in all things and be so much more thankful for our existence.
Thank you Bishop Barron for helping me to better understand that love.

Listening to this sermon as I am on Jan. 10, 2021 with the sounds of insurrection - the shouts and chants of murderous hatred, the agonized screams of the injured and dying - ringing in my ears gives what the bishop is talking about a whole new meaning. The Lord God, the Second Person of the Most Blessed Trinity came down into human form to become the Lamb of Sacrifice for men and women who, though calling themselves Christian, are filled to overflowing with hatred, with violence, who have abandoned themselves wholly to the Devil. That's the reality. And it humbles me in all it's breathtaking enormity, because maybe I'm not as different from the insurrectionists who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 as I'd like to think. God's love is truly infinite and beyond human comprehension.

If sacrificial death is the ultimate expression of God's love, we must recognise Christ's crucifixion as the sum total of our individual crosses. No one can escape the burden of his own cross, but few pick up theirs and follow Him. And fewer yet recognise their own in those of others.
The next time we are tempted to condemn, remind ourselves that we are called to the priesthood of Christ, the sacred office of redemption of sinners. No, not as judge, jury and executioner, but the instrument of Christ's message of faith, hope and love. In Christ alone is our burden light and easy!

The way I see it is thus - since God is holy and men are unholy, God decided that he must come down to earth to cleanse us and make us holy because only the one who is all holiness can give to men the holiness which they lost through their disobedience.
It's more like a father tying his child's shoe laces when the child is too young to tie them by itself.
And since all the child's friends are equally ignorant of how to tie a shoelace the child must seek out it's father whom it can trust will tie them well.
This must make us wonder at the love that God has for us and live out the rest of our lives with grateful hearts.

I nearly always love your homilies, Bishop Barron, but this one-THIS ONE-so succinctly takes us into the Real Presence that there can be no wishy-washy commentary that would seek to subvert it. For those who are getting this for the first time, welcome! And now, embrace your savior and your God in holy communion, and go tell others the good news.
