I thought the marketing for this game was strange, I was under the impression that it would be more of a diablo like game then a souls like. I was pleasantly surprised but I know some people who weren't.
I was pleasantly surprised when i saw it was a souls type game even more happy now that they have a rougelike mode. Cant wait for the full release this definitely is looking to be an amazing game.
man I tried this game a lil bit on my friend's house and it was so good. Now we will have to wait probably like 2 years for the actual release while the playerbase does QA for them. Such a bummer.
I put about 30 hours into this on patch 1, did everything in the overworld/story related but didn't delve into the crucible at all as I wanted to save it for the future but god damn, even back on patch 1 it was such a mesmerizing experience, and thankfully I didn't have any real performance issues other than stutters. part of me wants to jump back in for a second run but another part wants to wait longer for more content to be added. I think I'm gonna wait for full release to really delve into the crucible. Was still very pleased to see this update though, I hope dev continues along smoothly for the team!
That all sounds promising, what I'd really like to see is many more play styles, abilities, and potential builds. That's the biggest draw for ARPGs for many of us. The lack of build variety and depth in Souls-Like games is what makes them get stale for me pretty quickly.
Lack of build variety...? You can be whatever "build" you desire in FromSoft games. Just choose what stats you improve. Unlike most ARPGs where you're locked in to the class you pick initially. Pick barbarian and realize after 20 levels that you want a ranged character, or magic dealer...too bad. Depth of game, not sure how that relates either. PoE and Diablo aren't exactly famous for their lore. The biggest issue I see with this and calling it an ARPG is you're not going to be a mob destroying uber-power similar to the Diablo-style ARPGs. But both are great in their way, FromSoft type and Diablo type. Just don't agree that the FromSoft are lacking in either build variety or depth of game. If anything, they have significantly more of both than other ARPGs.
@@StephenDail being locked into classes allows each to feel unique and have very different playstyles. The plus for From games are that you're usually in a 1v1 or a 1v2, which allows for combat to be much more skillbased and challenging - that said, most builds FEEL very samey and most abilities don't feel great to use. Ashes of War are cool... but you get one per weapon on most "builds." Good ARPGs allow you to have the equivalent of half a dozen or so "Ashes of War," each feeling unique and impacted to use, when done right. I want the flashiness, customization, and unique abilities of ARPGs (or better yet, a game like WOW), with the lower mob density and skill-based combat of From games. The closest thing I've come across to that is Ravenswatch... but then they opted to make that into a repetitive Roguelite borefest instead of an RPG.
I am so very excited for this game. I have spent 40 hours just in what was their previous to The Crucible and loved every minute of it. I'm going to hold off for a while until there is more of the Overworld implemented but I have to say the narrative has me absolutely hooked. The world is deep and Rich and every frame is a painting
I would appreciate if they loosen up the parry window a bit or at least allow blocking while taking chip damage. Playing with no shield build is a pain.
@marathon01 really? I forget shoulder charge exists and never use it. Still, it bugs the hell out of me your character wielding a big ass sword and can't even use it to block.
Yeah ive found the most effective thing is to either remove heavy armor and go dual daggers or single sword while staying in light equip, or go full heavy armor and use the shoulder charge feature.
This game is going to be very good when they finish the content for sure. My biggest complaint is performance stuff, and that's pretty minimal by early access standards. I don't think it's gonna touch your soul like Baldur's Gate 3 did, but I think the content difference between this and the final game are going to be similar.
I remember seeing it mentioned in some negative steam reviews and the iron pineapple video on it: are the in-game waiting times (like mobile game stuff) still present? This game looks really interesting but that would be a sour note for me
