Fittonia was one of the first plants I got when starting to make terrariums, unfortunately, I put isopods in my first ones too and learned that isopods love to eat Fittonia. So that is my number 1 tip, keep them away from isopods.

That happened with my dairy cow isopods and fittonia! I find using dwarf white isopods is the best. All the benefits of a clean up crew in a bioactive setup without the plant munching! They don't seem to eat fittonia at all, and have been coexisting together in my dart frog terrarium :)

Went to a nursery a couple of months ago to get some terrarium plants, and one of them was a pretty beat-up red Fittonia. The cashier looked at it and went "oh, that one probably won't survive, so you can have it for free", it is very slow growing, but it is slowly recovering and it'll make for a good story when it is healthy enough for me to take cuttings from.

I've always loved using fittonia in terrariums because they were the first proper suitable plant I got. The only problem I've ever had is them melting when the sunlight from my windowsill gets intense, so I make sure move them further away from the window when the sun decides to beam down 💪

Interesting to see this. I planted a terrarium with fitonia before ever seeing your channel. They have done okay, but am going to see how much better they do following this method. Thanks Ben.

I just added a mini red vein fittonia to my terrarium. It is so beautiful!! I learned about using the bonsai soil from you. I don’t have that in my terrarium but if I ever repot, I’ll use it, plus o have compost worms and can use the vermicastings! Thank you! 😊

I have a fittonia growing like crazy sitting in water, where the stems and leaves are in contact with the water, it's making new roots. I have it outside under a bush covered with a clear plastic cover. It shares a kitty litter tray with a creeping fig, which also loves being in water.

I just got my first 3 fittonias shipped over and they were stuck for a week with no new moisture and no sunlight. I am so grateful they survived in the shipment!
that being said, will fittonias be able to survive in exposure with a little more sunlight just to encourage new leaves? What I got was very young and little.

If your terrarium becomes an aquarium, plant a tissue a few times. Or a ball of paper to wick it out!

If your Fitts start growing tall and lanky you don’t have enough light. This plant is weird because in a terrarium it seems to ignore everything it does in nature. I found that strong direct light is best. Contrary to this video however I have never had success with Fitts in bonsai medium. This might be because I live in the tropics. Mine do best in vermiculite.

Apparently I subscribed a while back but YT doesnt push you to me 😑smh.
    Hopefully this fixes that.
I just received a pink polka dot Fittonia, I do believe, in a mix of things and was subconsciously thinking to myself "I wonder what it is" and here we are .
We used to call it Channel Zero, that instinctual, liminal space where everything is listening to itself and there are no questions only knowledge.
    And then there's YT 😂
