I love how you get this song. Most of Elfman's music comes from a place close to insanity. "And just when I think
that things are in their place, the heavens are secure, the whole thing explodes in my face!" My opinion this is the very best of Oingo Boingo. The music is chaotic, but works and his plea at the end "relieve my heart!!"

I've seen Oingo Boingo 2 or 3 times. They used to play each Halloween at Irvine Meadows, back when it used to exist in the 80's. It was a full house each time, at least 14,000. The smell of pot was everywhere. Never a bad song. It was a real rock concert from start to finish. They had so many great songs. Danny Elfman sounded so good. The musicianship was off the charts. Memories for a lifetime.
So lucky to be so close. I only saw him once in Ann Arbor in 82' or so.

A friend of mine once described Oingo Boingo music as "a maniacal cartoon soundtrack". And it's kind of true. It's creepy, cynical, but fun and vibrant.
"Who Do You Want to be Today," "Only A Lad," "Dead Man's Party," "Grey Matter (Live)" ...really you can't go wrong with Oingo Boingo. Especially live. Such power and energy! Nice choice, India. :)

He is so brilliant; the whole band are virtuoso musicians, with most of them playing multiple instruments.
The twelve year old me wore out Oingo Boingo's Nothing to Fear album in my Sony Walkman back in the day while at the arcade playing Donkey Kong, Defender and the like.
Oingo Boingo were one of my favorites of the 80's. Try some more of their songs: Only a Lad, No One Lives Forever, Dead Man's Party, Nothing Bad Ever Happens To Me. That's just off the top of my head.

The deep concept of Danny Elfman’s lyrics along with his band were….. I can say DOPE!! Yes! I have a great love for good music…. Doesn’t matter what kind of music…… just good music!! "Dead Man's Party" appeared in the movie "Back to School" with Rodney Dangerfield.
Every year for Halloween, at the Hollywood Bowl, they do a live sing along of A nightmare before Christmas (he did the soundtrack) with the original people that sang the parts. We saw them 2 years ago and they performed Weird Science with the original guitarist from Oingo Boingo for the encore...it was amazing. So talented and such a great voice. Everytime their music came on in the clubs the dancefloor would be packed...so fun!

This group has some deeply philosophical songs throughout their history. It’s like ska/punk/new wave/dig deep into your sociology books.
One of the best live acts of the day. Feel fortunate to have seen them in this era. And, as many have said here, Danny Elfman (the lead singer) went on to be a major player in film soundtracks. Most of Tim Burton's films are done by him.
The thing I always loved about Danny Elfman's work was that, sure, we're all going to die, but let's have fun on the way!

My favorite song of All time is "We Close Our Eyes" by them. there is a great live version on youtube from their farewell tour.

I’m sure Danny Elfman has a wall of Emmys, Golden Globes, & BAFTAs to accompany his Oscars. This shows why is one of the greatest score composers of our time.

I have a sister one year younger than me, I'm 52, and there was only one place our music ran the same and that was Oingo Boingo. We neither one liked each others music except we both agreed on the greatness of Danny Elfman and Oingo Boingo =)

Nice choice! Oingo Boingo is one of those amazing SoCal bands that never really found their audience. Thankfully Danny went on to be one of the best film composers of the era.
No Spill Blood, Cinderella Undercover, No One Lives Forever, Out of Control, Skin, are all good songs from them. Oingo Boingo is great to listen to when on long road trips.

@john bacon pretty much everything Tim Burton did (I'm saying 'pretty much' to cover my ass, because I can't think of a single film of his that Danny Elfman didn't compose). Danny Elfman is also the singing voice of Jack the Pumpkin King in 'Nightmare Before Christmas'.

Yeah Oingo Boingo was a band that you heard all over in the 80's and didn't always realize or know that's who you were hearing unless you were a fan or were interested enough to find out!!!! I definitely recommend Dead Man's Party!!!! ❤️😊

I sat 5th row at the Greek Theatre in 87', one of the best shows ever!
Such a fun band to see in concert, tight and they would nail the harmonies always. Look up the singer Danny Elfman and see all the work he’s done in Hollywood including the theme for the Simpsons, and who his sister is.
Finally someone does a music reaction to Oingo Boingo. This is the great Danny Elfman, singer and composer's band. He's an extraordinary composer with tremendous range. For instance, if you listened to some of his film scores, his later period, you would never know he's the same guy from Oingo Boingo. The song you posted is from a concert that features many of their songs. I don't consider this one his best work. Also strange, he has a tremendous sense of humor, which you will see as your peruse other songs, just not in this one.

This is A great band.
Dead Mans Party is one of the greatest albums of the 80's. The subject matter is darkish but in a vaguely comedic way. Danny Elfman went on to do a lot fo film scores especially for Tim Burton and voiced Jack Skellington in A Nightmare Before Christmas. He of course is most widely known for the Simpsons theme.
This entire show is incredible and definitely worth a watch through.
Been a fan since the Gong Show. They were an avante garde, surrealistic music theater troupe then, and were known as The Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo , aka Clowns of Death, aka Mosley & The B-Men etc
Lead singer is Danny Elfman who went on to have a long career as amovie soundtrack composer. “Edward Scissorhands “ is one. Google it. Many films you’ve seen and has kind of a signature sound to them. Also his sister is Jenna Elfman who was the lead in a sitcom some years ago called “Dharma and Greg”
Jenna Elfman is married to Danny's nephew. Elfman is her married name. She's also currently part of the cast of 'Fear the Walking Dead'
And, if I'm not mistaken, I think he's married to Bridget Fonda.

"Little Guns" is also a good one. Not sure if there is a live performance, but the album version is good.

Danny Elfman is one of my favorite film composers. He's done the soundtracks for many of Tim Burton's movies as well as Sam Raimi, just to name a very few!

It's funny hearing you describe this as depressing. In high school I went to one of their concerts because I would listen to them to cheer me up when depression would rise again. My favorite of their songs is Dead Man's Party.
Weird Science is another song you might have heard..... Killer band here....how good are these harmonies live? Sound is really good. Shows how good Danny Elfman was in concert.

They were amazing live. One of my first concerts. Life changing. Listen to Oingo Boingo Alive. A studio album but I believe the band was recorded playing the songs live.

I only saw one Oingo Boingo Concert had to fight my way through the mash pit to get to the stage and when I got there there was one other person with gray hair also bruised and battered but got to see them from a few feet away amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!my wife was too afraid......no not mental it is the world of covid and failed democracy.....

If you're going to do Oingo Boingo, you got to do Dead Man's Party. Such a fun song. I saw them in concert at the Greek Theater in L.A. in 1988 or 89(getting old,can't remember exactly). But it was a really fun concert. Like this one too , India. Keep them coming.

There are many Boingo songs to react to, India. My first 2 concerts as a 16-year-old in '87 were Oingo Boingo, first at the L.A. Palladium and then the Greek Theater. Their music penetrates to the core. You should react to Private Life, Only a Lad, Sweat, Who Do You Want to Be Today? and many others.
Very talented he scored movies like nightmare before christmas, beetlejuice, batman and so on. please ignore the casters facial expressions, the band is very unique. with xylophones and saxophones the music s well written.

Remember, this song came out during the height of the Cold War when nuclear war between the US & USSR was a real fear. Having grown during that time, this song to me is about a post nuclear war apocalypse and trying to live.
