- Final Dyno session putting down around 409hp to the ground and 630hp to the flywheel, with exhaust cutouts closed. With them open, it gains another 10-15hp. This 1980 Special Edition TA, one owner car out of NY that we are just finishing up for the owner, is sporting full DSE equipment, Year One 18x12 and 18x10 snoflakes, a new LS9 crate motor, complete custom KillerPaint.com Mike Lavalle flamed hood bird and accents, Kenwoods new state of the art Double DIN DVD NAV system. Leather interior, mini tubbed, full protouring suspension, custom engine covering ,etc. We will be posting a full video of this car after completed so everyone can see all the details!

I saw this at the 2011 Trans Am Nationals in Dayton in September. I took a bunch of pics of it. And I must say it sounds and looks even better in person if you can believe it.

I have left the US in 99' and miss every single bad ass car it's got - namely made in the USA. Porsche, Ferrari's, Maserati's and even my fav. old British car, the Aston Martin do NOT measure up to a simple, awesome Firebird, Camero, Shelby etc...
There's something about driving an 8-cylinder on the open range that can NEVER be matched, folks...

@@TAWS-wq3hx if the motor is really putting out 630HP, the loss is in the drivetrain and rear end. However, you CAN NOT lose
that much power through transfer unless the tires were smoking on the dyno. so that means 500HP+ at motor? or faulty Dyno..
But I would take a super charged "CHEBY" as you say over any other combo.

@Zacharyderocher In the description he misstyped 360 as 630 at the flywheel. You can see that it is 360 at the end of the video on the dyno monitor.

1.) Someone is really bad at math if they're calculating 630hp to the flywheel off of 409 to the wheels.
2.) 409 to the wheels from an LS9 is pitiful, there's either large calibration issues with that dyno or they don't know what the're doing because that's a 550 wheel engine all day.

I guess some of you don't enough engines to realize that the GM LSX motor is clearly the best motor out there right now. No engines can make the same amount of power with the same amount of motor and expect as great as a reliability

nice car, have one just like it,,what size tires are in the rear? plus that car with 630 @ crank should be pushing way over 550 horses..if im right theres something going on in the drive train thats not right ,the painted flames,,not my taste, would of left it all black.

@twztd28 I really don't know. I was just suggesting a possible explenation for the description of the video stating: "around 409hp to the ground and 630hp to the flywheel". Comments were made asking how is 630 possible. My explenation was that it was misstyped so that the 6 and 3 were flipped. It was to be 360 not 630. The dyno was showing a reading WCF of 358.8, so I'm just guessing that is the 360 (630) reading. Sorry if I'm completely wrong. Still learning about cars...
I don't think the supercharger is working. My LS2 puts down about 400 hp to the wheels.

Thats a very nice build! If it was mine, I would make it a single turbo 370. I think that would be better considering some of those cars were turbo from the factory with a turbo hood...

@ThisIzTheEdge Hahaha ok and sorry if I sounded a little rough in that response... The average drive train loss on a RWD car is about 15%. So those numbers aren't even close a stock ZR1 makes about 545 hp at the wheels. So idk if this thing just has a horrible tune or if the drivetrain is messed up. They aren't anywhere close to what they should be.

Where do you get 409 to the tires and 630 at the crank? it should only have about a 20% drivetrain loss, with your math your saying it has like a 50%+ drivetrain loss.
also with the cutout making 10-15 hp is bs, ive seen them make 0hp before.

Stock zr1's put 550 to the wheels, where the other 150 horsepower?
these 2nd gen pontiac F-bodys came with 350cu pontiac,400 pontiac,403 oldsmobile,and 455 pontiac, and 301 v8 turbo in a special edition. the 455 came in standard,high output (H.O.),and Super Duty (S.D.) the 455 is actually a small block pontiac. so is the 400. the olds and pontiac do not completely interchange parts,and the chevy is diferent architecture.Try telling Summit racing you want a CHEVY rotating assembly and heads and intake for your STOCK trans am factory installed engine..
was that a carbon fiber tube on the cold air intake ? at heavy throttle that will compress,get smaller get rid of that .put on an aluminum one.

o.o 630 to 409 is a equated drive train loss of 35% some thing is way off on this. whether its operator error, lies about drive train or a super impressive a/c unit and a 500 lb drive shaft lol.
firechicken76 definately correct bro 630 times .35 is an equated drive train loss of 220.5 hp which results in 409whp.

is this the 4.9 T-charged engine? i believe that was the engine that got introduced for the 1980 model before that gen. was going out to it's successor.
Tin Indian performance and kre make some pretty serious after market pontiac engines as well.

I know people like to share and show off.... but I'm still making money ( some weekends go better then others) with mine.
got the best sleeper in three county's, 68 Dodge Dart-- 4door with original paint.... I've made six times the money I have invested in it and hoping for more. I can't see putting a video of it on the internet ever (or at least next 10 years) unless I crash it--pop the motor--or it gets taken by the police.

My pump gas 406 sbc put out 350 hp and 405 tq to the tires on a mustang dyno. Thought an ls9 would be way more than that. Bet the dyno wasnt calibrated right.

I have a 05 gto,,ls2 engine 400 hp ok good so far,,plus i add the lsa supercharged it gave me 520 at the tires,,,,the ls9 engine its around 630 HP ,,explain how do you lose over 200 hp ? Even if the car its to heavy its impossible..

Paint was never priority here. No respect in parking lots. So door dings ect... are problems. Paint also doesn't make the car perform better. This car on the dyno just sounds spectacular. Seeing it driving effortlessly says it all. The cornering and suspension with power. What a car. Forgot to say. That paint job is incredible. By the way, nice car👍
