My Dad passed away in 1979. We went to the theater to see this movie and I can still see him laughing his ass off watching this movie. He was sitting a few rows behind me on the other side of the aisle right next to the aisle. He had a big grin and it's a memory I will always remember of him. FWIW, this movie always makes me think of him.

Damn - right in the feels. I was obsessed with this movie as a kid, and my dad dotingly watched our VHS copy with me, because he loved it just as much. It's one of my fondest memories of him.
Not only the fact that I’m a third generation truck driver, but this movie helped solidify the fact that I’m 24 years and a few million miles between the lines.
When this movie came out, my dad was the body shop manager at the local Pontiac dealer. He bought my mom a T/A identical to this one. Had the AM/FM radio with built-in 40 channel CB radio. I was a kid caught up in the CB craze at the time, so this was heaven for me. They went to see this movie at a drive in, in that car. My dad fishtailing it through the parking lot while finding a spot to watch. Doesn't get much cooler than that, unless they had taken me along with them.
You could put 2-3 beautiful babes wearing bikinis standing next to that Trans Am and i would STILL notice the car first and and would take it home with me FIRST.

These 3 guys, Gleason, Reed and Reynolds have all passed away and this movie is 45 years old and is still one of the most iconic movies ever made. Nothing made today even come close to being as funny. This was the number 1 movie until Star Wars hit the screen knocking it back to the number 2 slot. And Smokey and the Bandit still gets more air play than Star Wars.
This movie is solid fun and more entertaining than most movies now. I'm 52 and we went to see this when it came out. My children liked this movie and my oldest boy can quote lines from Bandit. Always loved this movie and these actors and my young boy crush, Miss Sally Field! Sooooooo Hot! Lol
I was 16 when I saw this movie in the theater, watching that Trans Am roar out of that trailer made me say holy shit. 40 years later I have one in my garage , always takes me back to my youth :)
When that car fired up and rolled out the back of that truck, it was love at 1st sight for me. Had a 1977 Trans-Am SE for 9 years. Was a lovely car to drive.
I grew up without much money on a dirt road in Texas. But I saw the Smokey &TB movie when I was a kid and was equally obsessed. Although my parents were strict and we didn't have much, I somehow convinced them to let me spend my own life savings on an old (late 80s at the time) 1977 Trans Am. It was my dream car. The engine blew up literally the first night I drove it, but my dad helped me swap a junkyard 455 ("great" idea for a 16 year old kid to drive, right?!?). I drove it like a Duke boy, often power sliding around corners on the dusty dirt roads of Texas (not condoning that behavior, but I will say it was a blast). Still my favorite car I ever had by a mile.
I read somewhere that when they approached Jackie about doing this movie, he read a few pages of the script, said "I got this" and just made up his lines as he went along.
Wanted that car as a kid and still want one. A timeless classic. Even Leno went nuts over it and he has the ultimate collection. I'd have a Fred too if I drove a big rig.
it was number 4 but it's behind Star Wars, Close Encounters and Saturday Night Fever. Considering it came out days after Star Wars I'd say it did pretty good for two good ol boys racing across the country.
I have a friend who worked at a GM plant during the 80's. He talked with a guy who worked in the plant where the Trans Am was made. He said they made so many of those cars, the plant workers got sick of looking at them.
I just seen this video. I was 14 years old when they started shooting smokey and the bandit in the town of Jonesboro Georgia. I seen most of it being filmed. Including the jump. So when my Brother- in-law got his 77 Trans Am. I thought I was a bad butt when I rode in it. I love the TAs. Have a good one
'76 still had the two round headlight front, '77 went to the front like in the movie. However, movie production started in '76 and '77 new-front T/A's were not released at the time, so the Bandit Trnas Am's in the movie are actually '76 T/A's w/the new '77 front clip...so when the movie came out in '77, the T/A in it looked like the new one by then on dealer lots.
I should hope so because what if JC and family want to have a couple hundred cases of brewski delivered? I mean who's to say that they don't like Coors up there?!

I have this car in real life and every time I start it and take it out of the driveway I always picture myself as the bandit in this scene. This is my favorite movie ever and I know every line😂
I love Jackie Gleason in this movie. He did practically whole thing ad lib. The stuff he made up as he went along was way better than the original script, so the director, just let him go with it.
“Nobody makes Sheriff Buford T. Justice look like a possum’s pecker!” “There is no way - no way - that you could have come from my loins. First thing I’m gonna do when we get home is punch your momma in the mouth.”
I remember reading somewhere that one of his conditions for playing Sheriff Justice was he got to ad lib as much as he wanted. Hal Needham wasn't about to tell him no.
Simply means he's winging it as they are filming, and saying what he wants as he goes along, instead of what the script says for his character to say. Improvised on the spot basically. The sign of a great actor. The official definition of "ad-lib" = speak or perform in public without previously preparing one's words

I don't care who you are or where you're from.....everybody wanted to be the bandit. Just makes you want to get out and drive. So sad when your heroes die....but oh the memories. R.I.P. Bandit and the Snowman
being a man and growing up in the 80`s and their being a funny feeling come over me whenever i was near a girl, i also think that i probably got a feeling of extreme happyness whenever i saw certain things on television or in films, such as: kitt, the a team van, airwolf, street hawk, this trans am, the chips bikes, james bond cars, the star trek enterprise, conderman`s car, the vipers from battlestar galactica, the galactica, the tardis, the fighters from buck rogers in the 25th century, space 1999 eagle, to name a few, and no doubt i still do.
I remember my folks taking me and my brother to see this in the theater in 1977. I was nine. It was the first real "adult" action movie they let me watch, and I just sat on the edge of my seat, saucer-eyed, for the entire show. My dad was a truck driver, and I was totally into trucks, and cars, so this movie pretty much checked all the boxes for me. Good memories.
Same here. My dad wasn't a truck driver, but I fell in ❤with that Trans Am when it first appeared. I asked my dad if we could buy one, and he looked at me in shock and said, "No! Have you got any idea how EXPENSIVE they are?" Then I asked my dad if we could get a CB radio, and he said "No, those are only toys for adults." Dad worked hard to keep the wolf from the door and was very conservative, since he grew up during the Great Depression and WW2, and I was too young and silly to appreciate that. But I loved the movie anyway. Jackie Gleason was too funny as Sheriff Buford T. Justice. 😆
Today my wife and I drove 3 hours south, and bought a BEAUTIFUL 1977 Black Trans-Am. I have wanted one ever since I saw this flick when I was a little kid…now I have one. ❤️

My favorite childhood movie!
Justice look like a possum’s pecker!”
“There is no way - no way - that you could have come from my loins. First thing I’m gonna do when we get home is punch your momma in the mouth.”
They could have replaced everyone but Jackie and the movie would have been a hit.
I remember reading somewhere that one of his conditions for playing Sheriff Justice was he got to ad lib as much as he wanted. Hal Needham wasn't about to tell him no.
Ad Lib ? what's Ad Lib ?
Simply means he's winging it as they are filming, and saying what he wants as he goes along, instead of what the script says for his character to say. Improvised on the spot basically. The sign of a great actor. The official definition of "ad-lib" = speak or perform in public without previously preparing one's words
Ill always remember that scene when Burt broke the fourth wall. Best car ever.👍
Love the 76 honeycombs at the end, always makes me giggle
my brother had a t-top 77 Camaro in high school, yeah I know its not the bandit but it was close, had lots of good memories being young and dumb in it
You gotta love the Bandit's 'stagecoach holdup" mural on the truck. So badass!!
A guy who paints his truck like this would go to a minister's funeral dressed in feathers!
Rest in peace to the legendary Burt Reynolds.
And Jackie gleason jerry reed Mike Henry as Jr RIP
Thanks
and jerry reed also this movie wouldnt have worked them both- and jackie gleason also
4:57 I like how Bandit looks directly into the camera and smiles like breaking the 4th wall as if he was saying "and that's how you do it guys"
Great performances from the cast ,Love the Trans Am and Snowman's Truck ❤R I P Burt Reynolds ,Jerry Reed and Jackie Gleason 💓💞💕47 years later ,Still hilarious 😂 Burt's reaction to the camera looking at the audience is still hilarious,No body did it like Burt Reynolds ,10 4 good buddy ❤
Nothing beats that smile when he looks at us and keeps rolling. I love that!
Man, it's so funny!
I know - before Eddie Murphy did it in Trading Places!
I’m a driver and I can remember no cell phones or social media. Just a pay phone and a dispatcher and you had to know how to read a map. This movie was actually filmed all in Georgia. I’m from Georgia and I know the areas. Conyers has grown tremendously.

I don't care who you are or where you're from.....everybody wanted to be the bandit. Just makes you want to get out and drive. So sad when your heroes die....but oh the memories. R.I.P. Bandit and the Snowman
2nd best movie in my book ever!! Burt and Jerry....Man I miss them!
77 was a good year for movies. This and Star Wars
That one scene of Burt driving that beautiful, shiny, sleek , fast Trans Am out of the back of that truck sold a shitload of of TA's
I still remember as a little kid watching this all the time with my parents. That trans am is still the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen
Rest in peace, Bandit. Keep 'er shiny side up and between the ditches...

being a man and growing up in the 80`s and their being a funny feeling come over me whenever i was near a girl, i also think that i probably got a feeling of extreme happyness whenever i saw certain things on television or in films, such as: kitt, the a team van, airwolf, street hawk, this trans am, the chips bikes, james bond cars, the star trek enterprise, conderman`s car, the vipers from battlestar galactica, the galactica, the tardis, the fighters from buck rogers in the 25th century, space 1999 eagle, to name a few, and no doubt i still do.

Burt was the Man!
Handsome, virile and funny as hell!
Never seemed to take any of it too seriously.
this movie started my obsession with classic muscle cars🙏🏾
77/78 at latest. Filmed in 1977
My favorite body style car, ever.
79's were weird emissions cars
Justice. 😆
