The whole cast has said that this movie helped all of them grieve for Chadwick. It is also kind of insane to learn that he was suffering from the cancer that eventually took his life... throughout most if not all of his time in the MCU. One of the stories I'd heard was about how they noticed that he would take longer than expected in the warming tents during filming some of the scenes. And yet, he kept it a secret and pushed through to the end. He was an amazing man, and the world is a little less brilliant for his loss.

There was a deleted scene where Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda did get to meet little T'Challa. Of course, for obvious reasons, the scene was deleted so that the reveal in theaters would be as it was to the fans.
Although the filmmakers and Angela believed that the Queen meeting her grandson was a beautiful and heartwarming scene, everyone agreed that it was best to take it out and show him at the end credits scene.

What I love about the ending, with Toussaint and the point of him being raised in Haiti, is the fact that Toussaint is actually the name of our freedom fighters of Haiti which soon became the first successful slave revolt EVER. So, Toussaint being raised in Haiti means he gets to understand what his name means and the weight it carries (which is great foreshadowing).

I love this movie...it's like a geopolitical thriller movie than anything...I also understood Namor's POV...As a deity of his people, he was under a lot of pressure to "keep everyone safe". He could have tried to be more diplomatic but that lady he was always consulting with was just too radical. She wanted nothing short of amagedon for the whole world while Namor kept hoping that he could find some sort of middle ground.
Props to Shuri for also being a great leader. And the Queen Mother was just going through the most as well.

I felt all her grief, all her apathy, all her anger all her confusion at not seeing her mother at first in the ancestral plane. And then finally her spirit coming to rest & heal at the end. And then the interviews she has given talking about how she processed her grief over being so close to Chadwick & having to process her grief when she learned of his death but then again on set when those emotions at him not being there with her in those scenes hit once more. I’m just glad someone else is talking about what a wonderful actress Letitia is bc she did what she had to do in this film.

I still have can't believe the score didn't get nominated for an Oscar. Like, there were three nominations for this movie I just knew they were going to get, Angela Bassett for Best Supporting Actress, Best Costume Designs, and Best Original Score. Ludwig won an Oscar for the first movie score, which was already amazing, and I personally that he even outdid himself with the score for Wakanda Forever, so it not even getting a nomination for it just seems crazy to me. The "Ancestral Plane" funeral song (in the first Black Panther movie it appears in 25 of the 28 OST songs)...is actually created by the Romanian-Hungarian composer Tibor-"Tiberiu" Olah...for the historical movie "Michael the Brave" (1971).
It's part of the movie's "Simphonic Suite".
Ludwig Göransson knows this suite because he used another part of it as the main theme for..."The Mandalorian" series.

Namor was like that in the comics, too. Arrogant, hated the surface world, ruler of his undersea kingdom, flipping from "evil" to "good," and back, but his motivations were understandable. About the only thing the MCU changed about Namor was his origin and the origin of his people. Both T'challa and Shuri had to go through learning how to combat the obsession for revenge. It made T'challa a better king, but Shuri lost too much. She knew she wasn't in a fit state to take the throne. I'm glad she has Nakia. They can comfort each other. R.I.P. Chadwick. You are missed.

  • @Senefra
    @Senefra Год назад +4

Mary, Namor is so OP because he was the very first mutant (a half human/Atlantean hybrid that exhibited characteristics later confirmed as mutant) introduced in Marvel Comics (under it's prior iteration Timely Comics in 1939 and was considered one of their top 3 characters of that era, the others being Captain America and Human Torch). Canonically the oldest mutant is debatably between Selene (Hellfire Club's first Black Queen, the title later inherited by Goblin Queen, the mother of Cable & Jean Grey's clone, Madelyn Pryor) and Apocolypse (En Sabah Nur).
So when Namor (brilliantly played by Tenoch Huerta) calls himself a mutant in the film, well, it can be surmised this being simultaneously a callback to his comic introduction and the first film clue to referring to mutants in the MCU's next phase.

Given every single obstacle in its way, this managed to overcome them.

    Fk what everyone talks about.
    4. Namor was a brilliant antagonist for this movie.
He is a phenomenal character, and I can't wait to see more of him in the future.
In regards to Val and Ross, that whole subplot was meh. Clearly, it's setup for the upcoming Thunderbolts movie and the Secret Invasion TV show.
Also, Riri Williams aka Ironheart (who was introduced in this movie) is getting a Disney Plus series coming out possibly this year.
    5. Angela Bassett, who was/is nominated for an Oscar for her performance, gave a top-tier performance in this movie.
Words cannot express how proud I am of her acting.

I've been waiting for you to post this for so long, Mary. I was starting to wonder whether you'd seen it at the cinema, like I did. But your reaction was worth the wait, and then some. It's no wonder your channel is one of my favourites for MCU reactions.
Just to put your mind at ease about Namor's name: Since the character first appeared in the predecessor to Marvel Comics (ages ago), his name has been pronounced 'NAY-more'. And in the movie, nearly every character besides himself pronounces it that way too, so anyone can be excused for doing the same. The new pronunciation is unique to this film, to go along with Namor's updated ethnicity and origins.
And in the comics as well, he's often been a morally ambiguous figure. He started out mostly as a villain, albeit with some sense of justice, before eventually teaming up with the Allies in WW2. Even since then, however, it's been hard for him to shake his anti-hero tendencies. One of his nicknames in the Marvel Comics is "The Avenging Son". As you can see, it definitely applies to his MCU incarnation as well.
    Keep up the great work!

I loved this film, and while there are things that are flawed about the movie, I think given the circumstances of not only losing a lead in a film but losing a character that Marvel was planning on making a key component of, I think it turned out phenomenal.
For sort of a comic viewpoint: Traditionally, Namor and his people are Atlanteans. That's pretty much all you need to know. They're kind of nondescript and don't really matter outside of stories with Namor. Namor is Marvel's first mutant and is an important part of the Marvel universe not only because of his power, but because of his domain (the ocean). His character often leans grey overall as a lot of his motivation is similar to what we see here- his people. In the comics, we do see him at extremes from time to time. Coogler added flavor by tying them to a time period and a culture and ethnic background. While I'm sure some people were offended/annoyed, Atlanteans have always just been a footnote to Namor. Now, they have some appeal as a place.

When Toussaint was introduced at the end as being not just Nakia's son, but Prince T'Challa, it reminded me that was what Ramonda wanted to tell Shuri at the lake mourning ritual before Namor interrupted. If Shuri knew about her nephew, and later that she wasn't the last of her family, it could have made her choices easier. Instead, she remained full of hate after her mother died, too, letting Killmonger appear instead of Ramonda. But, she may have needed that anger to plan to develop the pervaporator to use on Namor, as it is particularly brutal.
The interesting question now is will M'Baku be king, while Shuri stays the Black Panther separately. I'm wondering if the heart-shaped herb will work properly on someone other than the royal family.

I was going to bring this up too! I didn’t notice the connection until rewatching here. And another little hint is that when Ramonda visits Nakia the first time, to ask her to go to Talokan for Shuri, Toussaint is one of the little kids bringing her to Nakia. He is holding her hand…we as the audience don’t know it so we don’t pick up on it, but it shows he’s familiar with his grandmother

I saw this in the cinema and I swear I didn't stop weeping until well after the opening logo...they gave Chadwick a beautiful send-off. Black Panther is very quickly becoming my favourite series within the MCU...both installments are fucking perfect.
My favourite 'fun fact' about this whole movie is that the line "You bald-headed demon" was 100% an ad-lib by Winston Duke. M'Baku is probably my favourite supporting character in the whole series.

Talokan is based on the real life mythological heaven called Tlalocan of Aztec mythology but here it is Mayan with Aztec or Incan cultures. Namor is the first mutant created by Marvel. It's the character that DC was inspired to create Aquaman

basically Namor was one of the first characters created by Marvel, he was created in 1939. DC was inspired by Namor to create Aquaman, that's why the characters are very similar. Because Aquaman was adapted to live action before Namor, Marvel decided to change his origin in the mcu to avoid comparisons (even though Namor was created first).

Namor is a character that goes back to the early pre -Marvel days. In the comics he is the son of a ship captain and mermaid, and is prince of Atlantis. He becomes a member of the Invaders in WWII along with Captain America, then later on with the Defenders, Avengers, the X-Men, and the Illuminati.
