I started crying watching this video. For MONTHS I have felt in a rut in my relationship with God. Questions like, "what's the point," or "why did He stop showing up," have been circling through my head and I have been fiercely praying that something would change. I thought I just "wasn't cut out to be a Christian," "maybe its just not for me." This morning, I sat before God, tears in my eyes and asked Him, "Where do I go now? What do I do? How do I get to know you better?" The quote by John Piper hit me hard because I think I HAVE been relying on my feelings to dictate how close I allow myself to get to God. If I don't instantly feel gratified with a connection, I stop reading. If I don't actually believe God will answer my prayer, I stop praying or just won't pray at all. I'm limiting God to fit into a box made by my emotions. This video screamed at me, "STOP BELIEVING YOUR VERSION OF THE TRUTH AND TURN TO HIS TRUTH!" No more reading the Bible and thinking, "oh thats nice" or thinking of it as just a story. It is the Word of God!
I think most of this comment was just me yelling at myself. But thank you, Kaci. I really needed to hear this and know that I'm not alone in this season.

A bell went off in my head when Kaci said that people have to tend to a relationship with God as you do all friendships. It seems so simple but it's the key stone to feeling like God is in your life.

Thank you so much! I have been feeling so disconnected from God lately, I had a very bad perception of him. I felt he didn't love me cause I was judging my relationship with God based on how I was feeling. I thought i had to feel God's presence all the time if he loved me.
Even when I read My bible, I didn't really feel him cause I was building my relationship with him based on my emotions.
I got really frustrated and angry with God frequently and gave up on the relationship because of what I wanted from him. But you said that if you want a friendship to prosper, you don't stay with the person because of how they make you feel, you stay cause you're genuinely interested in the person, even if most times you don't feel the vibe.

Hey girl! Just have to say that I liked how you likened a relationship with God, to relationships with people. I am at a stage in life where I am realizing how immature my spiritual life has always been. My relationships are suffering as a result. I am only 25 and I want to be able to have fun and enjoy life with others.
Today I was not feeling close to lord Krishna ( I equally believe lord Jesus). I shared this sad feeling with my mother and my close friend they helped me after sometime I started scrolling youtube and suddenly this video came in front of my eyes ( as if lord is talking himself to me) he gave me the answers through your video. summary.
in a human relationship, theres gonna be times when u feel ure really connected to that person and when u dont. at times when u dont, usually we would do something to get closer like we used to. this analogy can be used with our relationship with God too. this is normal. what to do:
1. SPEND TIME WITH GOD: communicate with God, communicate with brothers and sisters in Christ. what to share --> insights, struggles. [James 4:8]
2. NOT PRETENDING TO BE OKAY: an internal problem when u feel disappointed with God but u know u arent supposed to feel that way to God's plan, so ure faking all is fine OR u know u did something so u feel guilty and ashamed of it in front of God. solution --> tell God and be honest of what u feel. confess ur sins to may be healed. Jesus has forgiven u through the Cross. [1 John 1:19; James 5:16]
3. REMEMBER UR COMMITMENT WITH GOD: when u feel down in ur relationship with God, remember that u are committed to God Himself and not to the good emotions God makes u feel. worship God bc hes the only being that deserves to be worshipped and not the music euphoria makes u feel.

my personal reflection:
1. i feel its hard to communicate with someone when its not a "normal" two-way communication like humans do. i feel like im not heard, like im just talking to a wall. this is what makes me reluctant to pray. i know im wrong though and i know the bible says that God does listen, but physically its still hard to do. I have joined several Christian community and its also hard for me to share things bc i always feel doubtful like "is this insight really from God? or is it just from myself?" and then in the end i don't share lessons i learned. I'm also an introverted and its hard for me to share struggles with a large group of people. i have anxiety that makes me think theyre going to spread my struggles to others and gossip about me. this fear came from experiences.
2. im a second-generation-Christian. i knew church before i knew God. i knew bible trivias before i understand His Word. i knew Christians before i know Christ. born from a Christian family doesnt mean u instantly have a relationship with Christ. it doesnt give u an easy pass. at least for me, its still a hard journey. im very stubborn as people told me. i used to question the bible. it took years for me just to obey the words of the Lord and to be humble.
i used to be very jealous of first-generation-Christian (they who were not born from a Christian family, but rather met Christ on their own). "yes they face hardships. but they HAVE good relationship with God. great spirit and longing. their hardships are from external, not internal." as i used to think. but i try not to compare my journey to theirs anymore bc it damages my relationship with God more when i think of that.
3. despite my complaints above, im still trying my best to always get back on track. these past few weeks ive switched the regular translated bible to an easy-to-read one, and for once it makes me enjoy to read bible more often than ive tried in my entire life. with my concentration problem, i struggle to listen to 1 hour preach and instead i just watch short and to the point videos (like this) to keep my fire going. im using the bible app bc its features make me keep track on daily devotion. it is still a small step, but a small progress is still a progress. im terrible at commitments but for once i want to keep commit this relationship even in my lowest.

for those who have struggle like me, u are not alone. the struggles of second-generations arent easy too. ur feelings are valid. ure not perfect and its okay. what matters is u still work hard on ur relationship with God and u dont stray from ur faith in Christ as ur Lord and savior. --> for self reminder too hahah:)

Amen. I appreciate that you apply examples straight from the bible to today. This is such a impactful video. I am close to God, I have dealt with a situation that God has been telling me to bring to light (Luke 8:17). I am now putting myself in a place to spend time with Jesus, and taking my relationship with Jesus more seriously. Revelation 3:16

Question how far will God go to get us back to Him? After messing up I don’t feel like I use to. Does He put us in time out? How long does it take Him to restore us? How can one tell God isn’t mad with them?
No time out,GOD promised to never leave us and in romans 8 36-37 HE says that nothing can stop HIM from loving us,regarding the times,that is up to GOD's plan.HEAVENLY FATHER we pray in the HOLY NAME OF JESUS that YOU please show this brother that YOU never leave us or forsake us,no body is too long gone, (unless blasphemy of the HOLY SPIRIT)It is never to late to turn to YOU GOD,please help him to seek you with all his heart,mind and power,may YOU bless him and his family,In JESUS' Powerful Name,amen
How can I know He’s forgiven me? How can I know He still loves me and hasn’t left me? I was hype for Him and was active in church then things got crazy and my faith snapped and I had unbelief. I’d still call on Jesus at my lowest but since then it’s been different.
All you need to do is ask Jesus for forgiveness and repent. God loves all of us

I'm so glad you liked it 😊I did grow up in a Christian home, but there was a turn toward the end of high school/beginning of college where I started taking my faith more seriously and reading the Bible on my own - and then I did study it in college as well!
