I have had that tent for 2 years and it has never failed me, even in strong weather events it has saved me,
Same here. I love my Gazelle tents.
Have you ever had the wind push in/collapse a side or do the guylines hold pretty well? I've camped in heavy desert winds where even traditional tents can flex and bend inward
Thanks man😊
Same here. Been through some great storms. The tent stakes need replaced though. They sucked.
@@garrettcobabe3780I had that happen but didn’t have the lines secured. I’ve had some great tents and this one is up there I feel.
I've got that exact tent. It went through an entire night of HARD rain without any leaks.
It's a magnificent example of modern engineering. I would highly recommend it!
In spite of your report on this tent, I recently bought a T3X model and, while I have yet to use the tent in a violent storm, I want to say that the workmanship and attention to detail, at least on my tent, is outstanding, absolutely impecable. While I enjoy most of your product testings, it seems to me you rather enjoy finding fault in the case of this tent. I'm not sure that many tents would endure the storm you put this one into and come out with a cup full of water.
I own the T4 Gazelle, been through a similar storm with no leaks. Great tent and review!
That was the type of storm that blows in out of nowhere usually. Knowing it can withstand a strong random storm I didn’t see coming is good enough for me.
I have the T4 and it held up beautifully in a storm ruffer then the one in the video . It was so bad with the heavy rain and high winds it scared the crap out of us . We had one side pop in from the high winds but we just popped it back out and we were good to go . I would highly recommend getting one .
I always appreciate it when you spent the night in the tent your testing.
I have the T 4 and I must say, I’ve been camping in this tent 6 times in the rain and it never failed me this is one helluva tent.
Have this tent and love it! Weathered a couple of Sierra storms, and no leak on my tent. Great review! 👍
These videos are a lot more fun to watch when you are in the tent weathering the storm. You could still have backup and I wouldn't blame you for bailing if you had to since it is only a product test. Cheers!!
Exactly!!!
IKR…sleep in the tent
We have a T4 plus - the last time we camped it rained hard for about 16 straight. The gazelle had no leaks any where. It’s a beast and I love it.
One hell of a tent to weather that storm, definitely would feel safe in it.
I have the t4. It worked in an incoming storm. My friends tent was destroyed, and I was on the hill. After it being staked out properly, it worked well. Highly recommend it.
If you place the closures for the zippers up near the top of the zippered area, they will get better protection and not turn into a wicks like when they are left exposed at the bottom. Good for the two-way zippers. Stay safe.
Yup agreed... with tents that have a double zipper on their doors, there's a slight gap between the two zipplers. You want to keep those at the top of the door instead of the bottom, so any water that channels down the zipper doesn't leak in.
A little bit of moisture inside a tent after a major storm doesn't qualify as failure.
Failure is when the tent collapses or shreds.
Man up. Use your towel.
Tell us when tents REALLY fail, instead of moaning every time you have to mop up a few drops. It makes you sound like a city dude who never spent a night outdoors (which obviously isn't the case... you just SOUND that way sometimes).
For the price you pay you have to weight the pros & cons & decide if you are willing to potentially have a little rain come inside. That tent was given one heck of a test compared to others. You don’t control the weather so you get what you get when you get a rain test. Thanks Luke!!
You are the ONLY one I trust on the net to bring truthful reviews on all outdoor gear. 👍
Not me. He didn’t even use it.
agreed. honest factual reviews
His review of this fantastic tent has me questioning his other reviews now.
With a weather event like and the little of water I wouldn't worry about it. I would be rather impressed. Maybe a little fabric sealer will fix that issue? It's a great looking tent, it's a nice size and I love all the windows and the fact it has two doors. And it sell for a price that doesn't break the bank. Cheers
That was a lot of rain and wind. For the amount of water I think the tent did well. Great review Luke... cheers mate!
Sitting here in Switzerland, long way from home and miss the nature, river and camping. I am watching your channel to boost my morale at least a bit.
We’ve had the T4 Overland Edition for a couple years. It’s stood up to everything the PNW weather has thrown at it. Coastal rainforest downpours to mountain early/late season rain/snow mixes to blowing a gale with sideways rain, all with no leaking. We did go over all the seams with sealer before using the first time even though it’s well taped. No issues with the zipper storm flaps. Thank you Luke for doing a review on this tent.
I have a T4- plus love it
I believe I would enjoy the videos more if you camped inside the tent with the camera. The trailer's right there if the tent fails too badly. Ventilation and condensation are major factors in tent performance and seeing the leaks from the inside would be interesting.
That’s what I thought this video was gonna be
Woah! You’re a camper/ hiker / backpacker too? I love your videos! Keep up the awesome content
@@Dracula00piumI don’t think this guy has ever reviewed a tent he likes. Suuuuper douchie
He doesn’t need to sit in that tent and bore himself. He’s doing it his way which is the right way for him.
My stepson and I own the T4 version which is same tent just smaller dimensions. He wanted to do a month long test in our backyard(living in it) and the tent has been through very heavy winds and rain storms and has not leaked at all. I think that you’re right about the quality control on zipper flaps and maybe seam tape etc on some of the units that are released to us. I’d say we lucked out in that regard but would highly recommend these tents for water infiltration, ease of set up and the amount of room inside. Obviously it’s a truck camping tent being that it’s huge and weighs 1000lbs. But on a serious note it’s an awesome tent. Cheers Luke and thanks for all you do!!
I have the T4 and have been through massive storms and wind and never a drop inside. Love my gazelle! I have a rooftop tent that I live but have ended up using the gazelle many times because of the ease and extra space.
I have the t4 . I have had in the snow with no isues.
So I own the T4 and it's the best tent I've ever owned. I will say it is a bit bulky when you have to carry it around in the bag but other than that it's great.
I bought the T4 Overland Edition tent a year ago and I absolutely love it. I have yet to have it out in a heavy rain, but in a light rain about a month ago I had zero leaks. Last Summer was camping with some friends. Had moderate winds the first night, but the next day the winds really picked up and collapsed one of the walls. Keep in mind I had none of the walls staked down with guy lines. Once I put those in place, not a single problem. Tent held up very well.
I own both the T3x and T4 overland edition. Both I have used in rain and snow with nonissue. However never in those types of winds with rain. I will now keep an eye on the doors in that situation. Thanks for putting that together.
I love my T4 tent. A week in Yellowstone and have no complaints. I had a strap on the bag break at the seam. They sent me a new bag once I sent them a picture. Great support!
I have the Gazelle T4 and while it's bulky, heavy and expensive it's so convenient and well made I love it. It's an amazing tent for tall folks, I'm 6'2" and can stand in it - a life-changer! Mine has been totally waterproof over several days of rain, but I don't keep the zipper shuttles all the way down like you did.
Hello Luke, I have this specific tent. I had it in severe storms and it performed great. The only thing that they can improve on are the tent stakes. They do offer an upgrade which does include hefty stakes.
I got it right, I was sure it was going to be a lot wetter, though. I'm really surprised the leak was opposite the door with the short flap, too. My wife and I were camping at Sequoyah State Park in Oklahoma for a week, a few years ago. It rained and stormed with a vengeance one night and our Ozark Trail tent stayed dry as a bone, I was absolutely amazed. Great show, Lucas. We both love your channel and look forward to seeing more. Thanks for your help and hard work.
I got one of these to use on my car camping trips last year and absolutely love it. It's withstood a few wicked wind and rain storms in the mountains of CO. Such a fun tent!
I have a Gazelle T4 and experienced a similar type storm, it leaked slightly around the same area but it wasn't concerning to me honestly. The storm was crazy that night and I probably was in a bad spot since we set up at dark. I have also experienced a freezing rain event in it on top of a mountain with no leaking so there is that. I love my Gazelle, it's by far the best car camping/overland tent I have ever owned.
WoW Gazelle must have pissed in his cheerios. I have that tent, been through several storms and love it. My friend camped with me and he bought one. Another guy camped with him and he went out and bought one.
It's a fantastic tent.
mine's been ok so far, i've used it about 4 years. did see what the other guy said about 8:11 showing zippers not totally closed but could have just been the angles of the zipper pulls. nice video
Luke, love the rain tests. I watch them right before bed and they help me sleep. Lol
We love our Gazelle. It has rained with wind, but the tent kept us dry. We love that you can have a floor or zipper it out. I can also vouch for mosquitoes not getting in, lol live in SWLA where saltwater mosquitoes will eat you alive, lol. Thanks for the review of the tent. Have a wonderful Easter.
What a disappointing review. You just set it up and left it. You didn’t use it! You didn’t even try opening the door in the rain to see if rain pours inside.
I have this tent and it’s awesome! I haven’t had any leaks yet. Camped last weekend in 35+ mph winds with rain. I got lucky no leaks. I like the gazelle products. thanks for the great video and the test!
Excellent for the weather conditions considering the strength of the storms
Thank you Luke for doing that test. Interesting that the small zipper area leaked. That storm was the one that would cause a leak.
I mentioned the Gazelle last week too you and again, you came through.
For a family tent for friends, car camping, it will work great.
After seeing another of your videos, and wet weather reviews, for myself as a “by-myself” off-road traveler, here in Idaho, I opted to go with the USMC Combat II tent. I found one with everything for it, at a reasonable cost.
Again, thank you!
I have the Gazelle t4+. I've used it 3 times in the rain for a total of 10+ days of rain and no leaks at all.
I own a T4 plus. The big brother to the tent you tested. My son and I tested it in the back yard in Feb 2023. We were in a couple of rain storms, much like your test. No issues. Just a little cold. Thanks.
I used my t4+ with temps in the high 30s. A tarp or blanket over the mesh ceiling makes it tolerable. A small heater definitely helps.
@@grnxnam Thanks. I didn't mention it on the review. We did the same thing but with a small role of 5000mm plastic role. I released the roof, and slid the plastic underneath the rain fly. It made a huge difference, high winds after the rain. Thanks again.
I like how your feet went squish, squish, squish with every step, lol This tent reminds me of the pop up ice fishing tents.
I have owned my T3 for a couple of years and I love it! Setting up my other tents always leads to a “disagreement” with my wife. The only issue I experienced with the T3 was the side being pushed in during strong winds, due to user error, it was not properly secured. The T3 just makes tent camping more enjoyable. It has a ton of storage with 2 doors and almost 6’ of head room.
Hub tents can be easier to open if you stake them before popping out the hubs.
Good review! I like that you ordered a storm for the test!😊
Thank you, I've been intrigued by that tent. I agree with your assessment that even though it did leak it was passable.
I would buy it to me it had great results
Myself I like it I would trust it.
Happy Easter, that was a storm, the rain was something else, nice scenery not a bad tent ,thanks for sharing stay blessed
To all your other tents I usually compare them to the Gazelle, I own the T3 and T4.
And find even with its imperfections it is a well rounder pleaser.
Ease of setting up & down, ventilation, Skyview, go large.
I've used a Gazelle T-3 for about 4 years now: 1 year in the SE (SC, GA, NC, TN) and 3 years in Montana. It held up fine to rain in the SE. It holds up well to MT wind IF you stake down the corners and stake out guy lines from each side. Without guy lines, the sides are likely to collapse in strong winds. The stakes that come with it are junk and I replaced them all within the 1st year. The nuts that secure the wall hubs need to be tightened up about once every year or two. You will know when this is necessary because the wall won't stay popped out. I love the T-3 for off roading in my 2-door Jeep JK with my 80 lbs dog. There is enough room in the tent for a cot, camp chair and dog bed. It's easy to string up LED string lights inside as well.
I will be transitioning from my apartment life to living out of my car in a few months, abd have been trying to decide if I remove the front passenger seat and back seat to build out a bed on the oassenger side, or invest in a tent like this to sleep in. I'm on ohysical disability and 57 yrs old and am limited with mobility somewhat. I like the easy setup, and this test tells me that it's pretty durable too.
Thanks for the test and review!
I used to do more backpacking but as I’ve got older I’m doing moire car camping. In my opinion this is a great value and very easy to set up and having sheltered in several storm conditions have found the Gazelle to be very water resistant and stable in windy conditions.
Not a fail in my book. I have this tent. And the I would think the water came more from the door being opened and falling in. it was so little.
Great Test!
It's still worth buying. I have the T4 and I love it.
That tent did a really good job considering how that storm was. Nice test. 👍
another great video, thank you for your honesty and transparency. also unrelated, holy moly mr biceps! im feeling like I need to hit the gym now.
I love my T4, one of the best large tents I’ve ever owned.
Haven’t read all the comments. I have owned that same tent for 4 years now. Weather through more than that test. Absolutely no leaks. Gazelle tent is a true champ. You do have a quality control issue tent. Re-run test when you have a confirm quality control tent. There should be no gaps.
Well, it looks like the tent did just as well in this rain test night video as it did in the previous video where you were camping in the cabin! 😂🎉 Cheers thanks and really enjoy the quality of your production in these videos. The short test night is good for those that didn’t want to watch the almost hour long cabin video you did recently.
Bought the T4 in October 2019. I've used it several times at traditional archery events in northcentral Pennsylvania in June and July. Run of the mill showers, gully washers with no wind and thunderstorms with hail a little larger than a pea...it's done pretty well overall. It's leaked in two places, one was at a window area, the other a door where, as you stated the rain fly basically provided little or no coverage. Overall a great tent...not perfect but still pretty decent.
I haven't watched this channel in a while and you've packed on tons of muscle since then.
I can't speak for anyone elses tent. But my T4 has withstood heavy thunderstorms and heavy winterstorms. It's incredibly hard for me to trust any other tent ever since using my T4.
The Gazelle is on my short list of tents to buy, I'm glad you did a review on this one. Despite the minimal leak I think I'm still going to go with a Gazelle T4 Plus Overland or a T8 due to there being 5 of us. Also I'm a bit surprised that you didn't stay in the tent during the night, most of the videos I've seen you do you stay inside during testing. I think this would have helped determine where the leak came from and you could confirm or deny whether or not the zipper was not all the way closed as another commenter pointed out at about the 8:11 mark.
I have the T4+ Hub Overland and withstood a week of heavy rain and stayed dry. Particularly when you enter with wet clothing and that water from shoes and clothing stays in the front room, and back sleeping quarters are dry and warm. Going to get the T4 Overland for shorter, quick trips. Sold on Gazelle. I highly recommend the specific tent footprint by Gazelle which comes with Overland editions.
I have been using a gazelle tent for years. That model, and the larger T4 plus. I have had, at best, VERY minor leaks, and, as you demonstrated, from the door. Usually, it got more moisture inside, going in and out. The ONLY weakness of their tents, that I have, is their entrances. They arent covered (at least, not the T3 and T4, so, coming into and out of them, you will get wetness from that. But, actual LEAKING, I have not had an issue with.
As to the zipper thing-try moving the zipper closure to the top, and not the bottom. They are dual zips, so that should help.
Same tent i use and the only one that i would recommend on behalf of My Club, i use the Gazelle t3x overland edition hub tent the Pacific blue One, and its a game changer. Actually got it up in 46 seconds the other day , hasn't leaked yet, gets a little annoying in high winds but it keeps you dry thats for sure . I just love the height of the windows when you are using a cot ,makes a great cross breeze
I’ve used mine for winter, with -24 celsius in Canada; never a problem. Great tent for overlanding.
Love the sound of rain on the tent. At night.
Nice work Duke, thanks for the test
I have about 3 weeks of T4 camping, maybe 4 days of typical florida cold front thunderstorms weather wind/rain & had only minor leaks on the perimeter. The tent has so many plusses i don't mind the tiny leaks. Color is great, 60 second setup, ample space, great ventilation esp with rainfly off, bathtub removable floor. Wish there was a slightly larger fly option, esp a metallic reflective one ( dark green gets hot in direct sun) but for now best tent for me. Oh and unless u get the overland, yhe stakes stink. But i couldn't be inside a bright orange box so trust me, go green & upgrade the stakes yourself.
Wishing you both a wonderful Easter! Thank you for these fine test and adventure videos. I continue to enjoy your music selections.
Good that you eagerly test all that selling stuff, hallo from UA!!
So beautiful tent. My best wishes my friend from Greece
I own a T4 and have done so for three years. I have never had a leak. We get nasty wind out west, and not too many opportunities for massive rain storms. But I have had a few pretty good rain storms. No issues. With the ease of setup, I will deal with a tiny bit of rain through a zipper.
If anyone is on the fence about Gazelle tents, buy one. The only word of caution I would give is always use the Guy wires. The walls will “pop” in with a stiff wind.
I have both the T4 and T3 and these are wonderful tents, got my T3 last year and it never leaked. I have only 1 issue, the doors are made too narrow for the tents size. As far serious leaking, I've seen more water fall of a Frog than what was in that Tent.
I have owned the same tent for several years and have nad no failures or water intrusions. It's incredibly storm worthy, although the stakes suck. It's easy to swap them for something better, however.
I thought that tent held up surprisingly well. Definitely worth 👌 purchasing.
I believe the failure was the handling as the zippers should of been station top side of zipper as there should be a zipper flap that's placed to cover the zipper when closed and not guide water inside..
I have one of these.. it is one hell of a waterproof tent. I used mine thru some hellacious rain. Great tent. the T-4 was 350.00
Good Result, i'd buy that one for sure 👍
I would want a tent that would uphold thru the harshest weather aside from winter camping. Thanks for the review.
Agree with your assessment. I wouldn't be hesitant to use this tent in the PNW
I've owned the T4 version for about 4 years, been in heavy rain with strong more than a few times with no problems
From those who have mentioned that the leak could be due to how you positioned the doors zipper, the failure could just be user error or lack of knowledge. You probably should redo the test and make sure you give it all the chances to succeed. At this point, I'll defer to the collective wisdom rather than believing that the tent actually "failed" due to design or construction issue.
We bought a Gazelle T4 plus overland edition but weren’t able to use it due when we first planned due to Hurricane Ian. After watching this review, I was really nervous when we finally decided to use it camping for 10 days this last month. My experience of this tent was a bit different to this reviewer. First of all, we camped in Florida, during a cold snap. When it rained, as it does in Florida, the tent stayed perfectly dry. We ran a heater, so there was no condensation. The positives were 1) dry tent 2) enough space for a queen sized air mattress 3) Solid zippers and seams.
The negatives were 1) A few tiny; I mean like pin prick tiny holes easily covered by a bit of gorilla tape. This is a common occurrence from what I’ve read. Quality control. 2) the velcro at the bottom of the screen porch door is difficult to reseal after stepping out, so we elected to not detach it when unzipping that door; otherwise we had to pull apart and reattach the velcro at the bottom of the zipper every time we used the door. If we didn’t do that, there were gaps that could let bugs in. 3) The same velcro issue affected the corners on the door side of the screen room. The poles that stiffen the front corners attach inside the tent but you have to thread them through the velcro to the outside of the tent, leaving a gap where the velcro detaches. It’s difficult to impossible to reattach the velcro around the pole so it fits tightly. I ended up putting gorilla tape around the gap to keep bugs out. 3) This isn’t, in my opinion, even a 3 season tent. When we were in Fla., the temps got down to about 40 at night and windy; the hubs held as we’d staked the tent and fly down, but we got drafts that seemed to come from under the fly into the tent. I will say that we could have staked the fly sides closer to the tent, but a lot of the drafts seemed to come through the material. Our space heater, which is pretty solid, barely warmed the tent at all. If not for the electric blanket (we weren’t trying to rough it), I’d have been pretty cold. Maybe I’m expecting too much from a (at the time we bought it) $700+ tent that’s gotten universal praise. And lastly 4) Does it take 90 seconds to set up? Probably only after having done so for a few times at least. But that doesn’t count staking out the footprint, fishing out the hub pulls when they fall inside the tent, attaching the fly, staking the tent and fly, fiddling around with the door poles, which were very difficult to set up, fixing gaps in the velcro, etc etc etc. It still took us a good while to finally get set up.
My opinion is that it was worth the money as far as keeping dry in the rain, the duel rooms (the “front” room being a screened in porch), and the size. I’d not pay that much money again, though, as the rest (gaps in velcro, etc) was nearly more bother than it was worth. I’d have to sincerely think about buying another Gazelle. (Edited to add later: I did feel the material was thick enough to ensure privacy at night with our camp lights on. That’s a plus.)
Really been waiting a long time for this review Luke. I love the idea of the Gazelle tents, but was really struggling between the T3X and the T4. I wanted a tent that you could stand up in, but the T4 is so long when packed you can't fit it straight into a shortbed pickup. The T3X is shorter, but you can't stand up in it. I bought the T4 but haven't used it yet, but looking forward to a test run soon. Thanks for finally reviewing a Gazelle.
How come you don't sit in the tent while it's raining? Either that or put a remote camera Inside the tent so you can keep an eye on the inside.
I really like the tent! Held up well.
I wish I had one. Looks great. Thanks for convincing me the non geodesic design is still plausible.
Luke been pumpin that iron....lookin strong, son 💪💪
We had this in a terrible storm. No water got in and it is very well made
Love this tent. Easy setup easy breakdown. Tons of room for family and dogs. But when it's wet and cold, you zip up those windows, and the condensation is miserable. Cold and dry, warm and wet, warm and dry, this tent rocks.cold and wet and it sucks. But this is my go to 2.5 season tent for family car camping. Keep in mind the dimensions, it's a BIG tent stored.
See.....you are very fair. I like that. People can't say your not fair. And that company needs to know there was a leak....and the weather condition. Thank you for what you do.
I'm on my second T-4 and love it, though it's not w/o some drawbacks. The first one was great, I only sold it because I wanted the green color instead of the orange. Comparing the two the orange one I had was bought over a year prior, and had much better fit/finish both in the sewing and the taping of the seams. Both tents had issues w/ corrosion. I like to camp on the beach, to which the t-4 does great standing up to the wind(and less flapping noise than other tents I've had), but the guy line eye bolts will rust after one night on the beach, and the pole ferrules(spelling?) show corrosion. Only other complaint would be the ventilation, I think the no see um mesh is so tight nit that it doesn't allow for good airflow.
All in all it's a great tent that I would buy again.
Minor leak not an issue. I have a green T4 hub tent and love it for truck camping. Camping in OH with lots of rain in Sep 2022, no leaks, but not bad storms (sideways rain). Highly recommended car camping tent!
I love my Gazelle tent, it's been through a lot with me... including rain, wind, and snow. I've experienced minor leaks like this too... minimal when compared to track in from outside on shoes. My only complaint is the length when closed....but an easy trade for the ease of setup.
Looks like a very solid tent. The set up was super easy...
I’m curious on the results looking forward to the watch. Very best 🍻
