A spike (subtlely different), a hit straight downwards. The term meteor smash came from SSB:Melee, when the downward knockback could be canceled with a well timed (or well MASHED) jump. Oddly enough, even when the move was mistimed and hit upwards, the game still deemed it a meteor smash. The term "spike" applies to a move that was technically a meteor smash, but the game did not register it, and thus, could not be meteor canceled.

This caused immense ruptures in my bower, possibly from shiting a brick. The only thing that really threw me off was the short interval from 1:39 to 1:40 because it looked like a legitimate wavedash towards Samus. I couldn't tell what it was, it didn't even have Yoshi's double jump "hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngh" sound, so it wasn't a DJC? Or maybe I'm just confusing it with a dash animation since the camera was zoomed out to see Pikachu dying. >_> Still, amazing.
@AizenLegender aaaactually if you watch it over again that part you can see him do a double head butt, first one to cancel the move and the second to hit him up... grab also makes you invincible for a split second too believe it or not.
Every character has a meteor in ssb64 except pikachu and luigi (Mario's downB has a spike underneath him on the last frame) Yoshi and DK have two meteors each.
You probably shouldn't assume that he was using cheats. He didn't use the invincibility code. In the description, it's referred as "parry". Other examples of avoiding damage is using grabs to gain invincibility frames and plain out-prioritizing the CPU's. If you don't know what any of that is, look it up. It's a TAS video. He doesn't need an invincibility code to avoid damage, because in a TAS, mistakes are non-existant and he could easily avoid being hurt in the first place.

Yoshi is relatively low on the current tier list. You'd think it would be higher, by at least a few ranks. I know that Pikachu and Fox are going to stay up there because they can initiate 0% death combos easier, but still. I hope Yoshi reaches around #6 at least.
