Hey man, I really enjoyed your video. I just wanted to ask you, we tried to follow your coordinates and they didn’t seem to take us to the right place. It was a huge river crossing that was too deep for even my Toyota Tacoma, and then we went to the Graveyard Point spot and it was private road now. Do you have a route that we could get to the area you were digging in?

Very nice vid, thanks! My first rockhounding trip with our club was last March (it'd been dry!) to Graveyard Point. I was completely hooked! It is many square miles, hit by collectors for decades but still producing enormous quantities of float material. The main limitation is how much one wants to carry. There are some large hidden pieces peeking out like that nice one in your vid. To those wanting directions, easiest is to get the Falcon Oregon or Idaho rockhounding guides, it is in both.
I think it’s funny seeing Sarah squinting her eyes so much, and her sunglasses are right on her head! Because that would help if she put them on, but she wouldn’t see the rocks as good! Haha
Omg! I know that astonishment when there's an incredible abundance of something just one piece of you'd go bananas over somewhere else. Not too far from there is the same crazy amount, not of agate, but of what the locals call picture jasper. Came back with 90 lbs in one hour. I've never seen anything like it. Such a great video, thanks for sharing!
Just happend to stumble upon your video, very nice hunt, my great grandfather left me a ton of seam agate, tons of other agates that he collected from all over South Dakota, Wyoming & Montana, I'm sure other states to he would find rocks every where he went, and now I've picked up where he left off, I forgot to mention the seam agates your finding dont look anything like the ones I have maybe theres diffrent types of seam agates

You wouldn't do it. That puppy is your fur baby and its great learning experience for when you have children. The things I threatened my kids with and they grew up fine .
It just blows my mind that we can just walk around the area and randomly pick up agates like that,..I'm going to saddle mt next spring with hopes of getting some fire...where is this at your currently picking?

Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Love that GLOW! That area is one of the areas that got me hooked on rockhounding as a kid...about age 9 if I remember correctly. I went to this spot looking for something like what you found and I looked and looked and couldn't find that white car anywhere. It's just not there. Can you describe in detail exactly where that white car is ?
The little pen light that I use is called a Streamlight Stylus Pro, looks like its on Amazon for $20. I love having this little light in my pocket, its super durable and it doesn't have any of the stupid features you see in most flash lights these days, it just has an on and off.
I have seen plenty of red and yellow jaspers from the east coast. But the “black” and dark green jaspers are new to me. Do you have any small pieces/close ups? I know you do not sell, but do you trade? I have finger-sized smoky quartz points from Nova Scotia.
So are u on oregon side or Idaho side? Then next question I have if u could please. There are private areas that say no tresspasing. Where do u go that dont have gates?
I'm thinking about getting one of those fold up wagons. And welcome to Oregon by the way. I am in Southwest Oregon 😁 one of these days I'm going to make it over there. We got a Ford Escape so we have the vehicle but the next part is finding a way to have electricity for my daughter's oxygen machine and my CPAP
We have a garden wagon but it's a hard one which takes up a lot of space. You also have a lot of really good rock hunting locations over in SW Oregon. Have you heard of the Jackery portable power supply? They come in 3 different sizes, you can charge them with a solar panel or off your car as you drive, maybe something like that would work?
@@CurrentlyRockhounding I will check out that power supply thing. We have one of those hard metal wagons as well. We have livestock so we use it a lot. My brother just found a thunderegg in his irrigation ditch! He runs the area water control gates from his property. He is also saving all the petrified wood he is finding in there as well. The Mt Mazamma eruption was good to us over here.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding a nerdy geology fact is that the Mount saint Helens eruption was a total of three-quarters of a cubic mile of lava flow. The Mount mazama eruption estimated to be between 13 and 15 cubic miles of I remember the Mount saint Helens eruption because I was a junior in high school. And we had ash from that clear down here.
After watching your awesome video my husband and I headed out there. Unfortunately to our surprise there are No Trespassing Signs on both entrances! There was even a cow gate across the one on Grave Yard Rd. Did you run into this problem?

I tried going out there today, tried 3 different roads and they all had do not trespass signs. One even mentioned that they owned a shotgun. I would like directions too.
@ShimmerySound turn left at the graveyard point and sage intersection. Go down till the road forks, you will fork to the right and go over the bridge. Then just follow the center road. That will get you to the right area. Then just follow the main dirt road till you get to where you want to go.
Where is graveyard point located at? My hubby put the GPS numbers, which are not giving me the address of the graveyard point. Love ur videos. I prefer a physical address for the graveyard point.
It's located in SE Oregon near the Oregon/Idaho state line. There is no address for it since it's the desert but it's about 9 miles from the town of Homedale, ID.

Hey man. I live in twinfalls idaho and I took a trip to this area I think. I pulled some dark red, black, orange, white, and pink agates the size of bothered my feet put together. If you come this way again I'd be happy to show you how and where. I dont have social media but I'm sure we could figure something out.
@@RandyRobin just rockhounding in the area. One club has a claim on a small part of the deposit. The main deposit the original Material came out of is covered under 30' of overburden right now.there was a lot of dirt moved around when the original prospect was active.

Congrats on quite the haul. I have lots of agates, buckets, boxes, shelves, drawers, etc..full of them. Lots of green and red jaspers too. I was born into a rockhounding family. Basically been picking up rocks and bringing them home to cherish since I could walk. I love how these were just laying out all over. I must visit soon. Thanks for sharing. I loved surface hunting there. Pull over to the side of the road and start walking. I came home with some beautiful plume agate. Can't wait to go again!
i have a 9 and 5 year old puppy, they are way easier to control by voice then leash, they are /think they are the center of the world! WHAT a JACKPOT of a HONEYE HOLE for AGATEs!
I'm new to all of this and while agate/jasper/petrified wood hunting with my grandson a couple of weeks ago I was also finding a lot of that thin stuff. It was all over the place. Now I know. what it is. I also figured out one other thing. You walk out as far away as you want to hunt and wait to start filling the bags until on the way back. I would load a backpack with 70 lbs of jasper and agate and also carry a pillowcase with another 40-50 lbs. Never did get more than 200 yds from the vehicle. I was picking a lot of big pieces for flintknapping. By the time we left my 3/4 T Suburban with airbags was sagging.
We have to have a plan? Ha! I'm ordering a QT12 Lortone tumbler and a Hi-Tech 10" flat lap so we can have fun making things out of them. As I told my grandson, half the fun is just in the hunting for them. Now we will have fun using them.
Very helpful - thanks! It was a bit confusing when I went out there. I felt like I needed to be wary of not collecting on someone's claim. Not sure where to look that up. I did some rockhounding on the site near the Graveyard Point historical marker. Crossing the dry canal was difficult in the crumbling rock, especially when hauling back my finds in buckets and bags. Not sure how that would be accomplished with water in the canal. I also drove out into the area south of there. Need to go with someone more familiar with the area.

It’s been soaked in water and scrubbed and is now in large glass jars of Lime Away getting cleaned up, along with finds from the Succor Creek area. Both are not fat from my home in Boise. I’d love to hear your thoughts on cleaning, tumbling, cutting, etc. How to choose which to what with. I am just getting back into rockhounding after retiring and have a lot to learn.
You're in my back yard. I live on the Idaho side about 15 minutes from there. I've spent countless hours out there. We also had a lot of rain last week so it washed off a lot of the rocks.
Yeah it was prefect timing for use, not to muddy, and the ground wasn't rock solid yet. We did hit some deep water holes as we did some driving around out there.
So the easiest way to use GPS is to simply drop those numbers into google and you should see a pin pop up on a map. Also there's more advanced search features out there which talk about and show in my How to Rockhound video playlist.
I hope you respond quickly. I bought a garmin gps to find the coordinates you listed and I have no idea what format those are. They’re not minutes and seconds so what format is it.
Decimal degrees is the format I use which is also used by google, gaia and a host of other products. You should have a setting to change the format in your Garmin devise. Otherwise you can download app for your phone that will act as a converter tool.
Wow! What a spot. Material everywhere. Couldn't get to spot that is on the site. Creek crossing was to high. Didn't have time to go around to other entrance. Still found amazing stuff in only a couple of very hot 100 degree hrs!

They roll well on gravel roads!

Congrats on quite the haul. I have lots of agates, buckets, boxes, shelves, drawers, etc..full of them. Lots of green and red jaspers too. I was born into a rockhounding family. Basically been picking up rocks and bringing them home to cherish since I could walk. I love how these were just laying out all over. I must visit soon. Thanks for sharing. Your dog is gorgeous, and so well behaved.

Check out lobster pond in nova Scotia Canada. There is just as much if not more with tons of exposed seams of all colors. This spot looks awesome too.

Have you ever brought out a pick axe to help with hunting?
Some times I use the Estwing Geopick on our hunts.

I loved surface hunting there. Pull over to the side of the road and start walking. I came home with some beautiful plume agate. Can't wait to go again!

i have a 9 and 5 year old puppy, they are way easier to control by voice then leash, they are /think they are the center of the world! WHAT a JACKPOT of a HONEYE HOLE for AGATEs!
I wish she was that kind of dog but I know she would find the nearest snake and try to be friends with it. The agates in the this area top notch.

I'm new to all of this and while agate/jasper/petrified wood hunting with my grandson a couple of weeks ago I was also finding a lot of that thin stuff. It was all over the place. Now I know. what it is.
I also figured out one other thing. You walk out as far away as you want to hunt and wait to start filling the bags until on the way back. I would load a backpack with 70 lbs of jasper and agate and also carry a pillowcase with another 40-50 lbs. Never did get more than 200 yds from the vehicle. I was picking a lot of big pieces for flintknapping. By the time we left my 3/4 T Suburban with airbags was sagging.
What's your plan for that much material?

I'm ordering a QT12 Lortone tumbler and a Hi-Tech 10" flat lap so we can have fun making things out of them. As I told my grandson, half the fun is just in the hunting for them. Now we will have fun using them.

Very helpful - thanks! It was a bit confusing when I went out there. I felt like I needed to be wary of not collecting on someone's claim. Not sure where to look that up. I did some rockhounding on the site near the Graveyard Point historical marker. Crossing the dry canal was difficult in the crumbling rock, especially when hauling back my finds in buckets and bags. Not sure how that would be accomplished with water in the canal. I also drove out into the area south of there. Need to go with someone more familiar with the area.
The claims should be clearly marked, if not its on the claim owner to do so. I hope you had some good finds.

It’s been soaked in water and scrubbed and is now in large glass jars of Lime Away getting cleaned up, along with finds from the Succor Creek area. Both are not fat from my home in Boise. I’d love to hear your thoughts on cleaning, tumbling, cutting, etc. How to choose which to what with. I am just getting back into rockhounding after retiring and have a lot to learn.

Mostly dirt and gravel, not too bad but I think after a rain the area turns into a mess.

You're in my back yard. I live on the Idaho side about 15 minutes from there. I've spent countless hours out there. We also had a lot of rain last week so it washed off a lot of the rocks.
Yeah it was prefect timing for use, not to muddy, and the ground wasn't rock solid yet. We did hit some deep water holes as we did some driving around out there.

How do you use the numbers in the description to find the location? I have never done that before. I would love to one day check that place out.
So the easiest way to use GPS is to simply drop those numbers into google and you should see a pin pop up on a map. Also there's more advanced search features out there which talk about and show in my How to Rockhound video playlist.
Currently Rockhounding I am probably doing something wrong but I am trying it in maps on my phone and in keeps putting me in the South Pacific sea.
Do a cut and paste of these numbers and it should work 43.561893, -117.059929

I hope you respond quickly. I bought a garmin gps to find the coordinates you listed and I have no idea what format those are. They’re not minutes and seconds so what format is it.
Decimal degrees is the format I use which is also used by google, gaia and a host of other products. You should have a setting to change the format in your Garmin devise. Otherwise you can download app for your phone that will act as a converter tool.

Wow! What a spot. Material everywhere. Couldn't get to spot that is on the site. Creek crossing was to high. Didn't have time to go around to other entrance. Still found amazing stuff in only a couple of very hot 100 degree hrs!
