This video tutorial made my entire day. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I recently joined a school and got back to the teaching field, and your videos are helping me a lot. Keep up the good work pleeeeeease!!!!!!!!!! it is like magic! 🤩
You're very sweet! Thank you so much! I'm so happy you enjoyed it and my videos have been helpful for you! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! 🥰
I am a nursing professor with a lecture hall of 50 to 60 students and I am always looking for digital, interactive ways to engage students through unfolding case studies. This digital escape room is an excellent idea!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Michelle! I am excited to use this digital escape room with my class during December to keep them motivated and excited to learn as we lead up to winter break. I appreciate the ideas you share with us that elevate the quality of our instruction. Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead! 💜
Aww, thank you so much Mandy! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well! I hope your students LOVE the digital escape rooms and I appreciate you watching and commenting as always! I hope you have a great week ahead! 🥰
I made the Escape the School and I can't wait for my 4th graders to enjoy it. Thank you for showing us this. If i remember to I'll let you know how it goes. 😊
Michelle, Back when I was a young autistic school student one day when the bus dropped me off at home and I knew that I did not have my house key I got so frustrated that I had to kick the front door down just to get in my house at the time and watching you do this reminds me of that time. I hope that you and everyone there had a Happy Thanksgiving. - Dwight
Love your videos! Please make a video that shows us different types of questions we can use in the google form for the escape room. I am really struggling with this.
This was so fun to watch and totally my jam! I’m super extra with these types of things too! I was waiting for this video ALL WEEK! So excited to try this out! Thanks for showing us how to make the GIFS last week! I know I’ve said this a million times, but I love your tutorial videos! They are so in depth and easy to follow! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and I’ll see you next week!
Woohoo! I'm so happy you enjoyed it and hope it's easy for you to implement! Thanks as always for taking the time to watch and comment! I hope you have a great week ahead! 🥰🖤
This is great, I am going to look at creating one for my learners on swim teacher courses as something to work though in teams, they can race each other. Also thinking of a task for our school PTA too.
Thanks for your video! I'm having an issue where it shows the answer to the question on the student end, I've changed the settings to make it a quiz and to not show correct answers. I was wondering if you had any input on other settings that might be causing this. Thanks!
Hi there! Make sure you have the “Custom error text” filled in for the question… this is the message that will display to students if they get the answer wrong. If this box is left blank, it will reveal the correct answer to students. I recommend putting a simple message like “Try again!”.
Hey, we are going to making one of these in Y6 but would love for them to have a go at completing yours as a stimulus and for them to see a great example. Is there a link to actually complete your escape room? TIA Sam
You definitely can, but you wouldn't be able to have the "locks" that only accept correct answers unless you link to a Google Form. Hopefully that makes sense!
has anyone run into a problem uploading their gifs? I managed just fine for the header but any images beyond that it says "error occurred". I tried different browsers etc and can't seem to get it to work.
Do you ever think about how many teachers don't have time or energy to create new things? Teaching isn't a hobby career for most people. We are just trying to make it through the day. There's a movement of teachers that make us teachers look bad. I can accomplish just as much without creating my own escape room. But I don't need admin to shame me because of teachers that go above and beyond. Do you ever consider the disservice you are doing to the ordinary teachers among us just trying to get by? It's lovely that you are so passionate about creating new materials from scratch, but I don't like this trend and see it as kind of toxic in education post-pandemic. Not meaning any disrespect at all, but just wanted to give another point of view to consider.
1. Michelle has a template so you don’t have to create it from scratch. 2. Let’s put a classroom spin on this - do you have students that go above and beyond what you ask of them in the classroom! If yes, do you shame those students who don’t but still continue to do their work to the best of their ability? I would hope not. I think your criticism has more to do with unreasonable admin putting emphasis on end products more so than with creative teachers making engaging material. I relate to you a lot - I’m prioritizing other things over my job as a teacher and, therefore, I don’t have time to make things like escape rooms from scratch. However, that doesn’t mean that teachers who do make the time to create new things are better than us - they’re just teaching in a different way. That being said, admin needs to recognize and value the pros of both styles of teaching.
I usually don’t comment on her videos, especially to negative comments like this one, but you’re not going to make Michelle feel bad about herself. Michelle sells these products on her TPT store so that she can help other teachers. She dedicates her time and energy to make resources for teachers so that they can save time in their classroom. She holds professional development courses for teachers AND she developed her own planners that teachers can use. She spends *so* much time and energy serving teachers in her community and you do NOT get to project your frustrations onto her by making her feel bad. That’s unacceptable.
What the heck?! This is literally how she earns a paycheck. I’ve been watching Michelle since the beginning and I’ve NEVER picked up on that vibe at all. If anything, she uses the “ordinary teacher” as her model for her products and tutorials. It’s not her fault if your admin is willing to shame teachers for how they teach. Based on your perception, what kinds of videos would be even more helpful than tutorials for the “ordinary teacher”?
Woah, there's a lot to unpack here. First of all, I'm very sorry that your administration has shamed you and I can empathize with your frustrations. To respond to some of your concerns, it's difficult to pinpoint "above and beyond" because that term is very subjective... what's above and beyond for one teacher may not be for another because we all have different skill sets and strengths. As someone who has always been fairly efficient with using technology, using a digital escape room with my students would not be what I consider "above and beyond"... especially since they are pretty low prep in terms of physical materials. That being said, I can understand how the process of creating one may be more challenging for others and would fall into that category. But, I don't think it's fair to categorize using an activity like this as a "disservice"... just as you don't enjoy being shamed, placing the shame on someone else for their choices doesn't help either. The second thing I want to address is the fact that this video is literally free content available on the internet that you chose to click on and watch on a volunteer basis. If this type of content bothers you, then you should choose not to watch it. But, if you enjoy getting the ideas and learning from the tutorial, by all means... please keep enjoying the free content! As others have mentioned, a digital escape room doesn't have to be made from scratch... I have a ready-made template available that can be used to create the escape room in literally minutes by typing in your own questions and answers. Of course, that purchase is also voluntary and you can create your own for FREE by following this video. Most things in life cost us our time or money. Regardless, I'm sending lots of positive thoughts your way and hope you can find the peace you're looking for in the profession!
As a fellow teacher, I love how you always come up with something new ❤

Thank you so much!
Could we create an escape room in Google Slides for lower grades like grade 1 or 2?
Yes I’ve seen other video on it
You definitely can, but you wouldn't be able to have the "locks" that only accept correct answers unless you link to a Google Form. Hopefully that makes sense!

Do students ask why they can't use the phone to call for help? LOL
Unfortunately, all of the response validation "passwords" are easily locatable in the HTML code by opening the developer tools. 😪
Is the guide no longer free?
