An all too familiar scenario, I’m convinced the standard or driving has definitely deteriorated over the past few years. Another thought provoking post Mike, thanks.

just give thanks for the crystal ball! Well done Mike. A good example of the level of bad driving that still exists on our roads. Car drivers should use their mirrors better along with a lifesaver.

Yes I thought the same Mike, oh he’s decided to stay put where he was. I’d like to think that he’d remember just driving past you, but I’m sure after covid everyone seems to be less courteous, more aggressive and driving at a generally lower level. Maybe I’m just getting old and cantankerous.

Standards do seem to be dropping further.

All (yes all) of us are capable of mistakes.. 2 wheels or more.however in this instance the lane change from the Merc was inexcuseable.

I actually said “ ‘ C U next tuesday’ “ , out loud, when watching that, Mike 🤬😂 - I can think of a few guys I used to ride with who would’ve done something ‘orrible with an old spark plug to that Merc driver 😇

Small point, should your horn not have been used prior to the red car making it's move instead of after?

In theory yes, if I was behind the vehicle and was warning of my presence. However I was past there and I was more concerned with actually slowing and making space as he moved over. You could argue that the hoots were an (incorrect use) admonishment, but they were more "I'm still here!". Not perfect 😀

My thoughts too, Mike. I saw it as a ‘no more stunts without checking your mirrors please’ and was IMO a justifiable warning. But the correct use of the horn, as per the Highway Code, has become a rarity and has turned it into arguably the most misused signalling device.

The Merc driver was probably immersed in music or chatting on their phone. So probably, didn't even hear the horn. Let alone use their mirrors.
I'm a relatively new rider, and this has happened to me time after time.
Driving standards have definitely dropped in this country 😢😢

@@TheOGForkinCrazy Yes indeed. Two wheels good! take care of the contents of your ‘lucky bag’ until you’ve topped up your ‘experience bag’ 😉👍

@geoffc3191 Thanks, I appreciate it. Went on Bike Safe a little over a week ago and really enjoyed it. I'm looking to progress and do more courses. IAM is next on my list. You can never practice enough.

V poor driving by Merc driver. Having overtaken you, they should have known roughly where you were and looked before signalling and moving. What we are all 'up against'...
