If that´s not the definition of a supergroup I don´t know what is! Time and sound bending extravaganza... plus a pocket as deep as the Mariana Trench. Wow
WHY must I end up watching Nate Smith videos after I've had a few drinks? I already feel like a dummy trying to count when watching his videos when sober, but right now I'm have an existential crisis!
Loving this series- idk what it is about the mix, maybe it’s just me, but Michael seems so buried! I wish I could here him better behind drums and lead. He has a subtle touch as it is, he should be turned up.
@@eyethorn it’s funny I was just watching the new interview with Michael on Scott’s Bass Lessons, and they spent a while talking about how he intentionally plays with a controlled, softer feel, which gives a more full and even low end to his sound, and he relies on the sound engineers to turn him up. This way he just sits smoothly on the bottom of the groove, fully present but not getting in the way. It’s a pretty interesting approach that I don’t see a lot of bassists implement and it works really well if the engineer meets him in the middle- in this case it seems the sound crew wasn’t used to his style and didn’t know what to do with it, but I hope they can learn from it and be prepared next time cuz I’d love to see these guys together more!
I agree, it's a shame. I do think it's an editing issue, not Michael's touch though, because on the vid with Kiefer and Carrtoons you can also hardly hear Bens bass at all.
Just realized that these guys are playing to floor monitors instead of in ears in all of these videos which makes everything that much more insane! Thank you Nate and all of the legendary accompanists for all of these heaters!!!
Hey, I am sorry, novice here, in what scale was he noodling in (the only way I can ask that to my limited understanding)? Like what was the ornamentation he used, which intervals or something? Haha Sounded beutiful!
Love this and this trio is incredible, but I have to say I'm surprised that these last three videos have been approved and released with Michael so buried in the mix - P bass with flatwounds is not an overpowering sound, and even with the pedals used in unfollower his tone is far too buried in the mix. What a shame!
I was gonna say nah, having just enjoyed this a lot, with headphones, but yeah you're right, and I did notice it immediately when bass comes in; you can hear some room reverb, and does not sound as present as drums/guitar. Maybe that is intentional. We've gotten so accustomed to edgy-bass-in-the-face mixes, that maybe they were going for something else.

NATE AND MICHAEL = PERFECT GROOVE 🎶🙌🤯
I’ve watched that skip step performance more times than i can count, love this trio ❤
Yep! Everything that drops from this whole concert has just been gold, and I agree that this trio has the most oomph. Just...dayuuumm!
I dont see the legend Lionel Loueke getting enough credit, that man plays for Herbie Hancock, and his approach to the guitar is UNGODLY.
also this is lionels song, he's an absolute beast and an ingenious music mind.

Amazing. The perfect lesson on how to lock in on drums and bass!!

sounds good on my system.. bass could be a little louder maybe.. Michael always plays in a supportive way and never tries to dominate.

Time signature?
What a rhythm section! Unbelievable. Such a shame about the guitar though, unbearable.
listen to this without watching the video! these guys are in a funny way overacting, except nate. it's silly guys. anyways, music is great!
