  • Scanning high detail object, metallic surface without spray.
Raptor gives 3 times more point cloud density than the Otter.

The laser scanning mode and tracking on the Raptor looks very easy to use, the results for something so shiny are great, even if it wasn't shiny, very good.

When you look at the ring end of the spanner, the raptor looks incredibly good, compared to the Otter.
I would like to scan the inlet/outlet ports on engine cylinder heads.
I’d love to see you scan the internal space on something tubular, to see how deep down the tube the laser can scan.
    Food for thought 😑

It can scan the bottom and some siding of 6mm wide 10mm deep groove. The edge of the holes will block the light path.

Very good videos. Thank you for pc comparison also. For otter fps. It has given best possible overview of these two scanners.
Could you scan something that has cavities. For example my einstar had problems with bolt holes under 5mm diameter. Also it did not have great depth. Meaning that when the object had lets say 50mm cavities inside or has like very landscaped shape then it had problems to see into lower parts. Giving me a model with lost data in cavities. That would be interesting video to see.
Also you should compare otter with texture mode to raptor with marker mode. It seems to me that otter has little bit problems seeing markers.

Otter in Small/Medium mode, you can't adjust marker brightness and object surface color will have effect on marker. But in Large mode, you can adjust brightness of marker and object separately. That's why Otter doesn't do well in small/medium - marker mode.

How long did it take to perform the handheld scanning portion for this high detail scan using the raptor?

Thank you for your video. Don't you think that if the shiny wrench was coated with a matte spray, the Otter scan quality would be better?

Yes, you're right. When I scan white remote control. Otter gives more point cloud than Raptor in the same resolution setting (0.1mm). But spraying (I usually use Magnaflux SKD-S2) will thicken and cover the emboss text. I can try and put that in a video.

can you tell us about the processing step and specially about the markers, how you remove them there is any command for this or automatically removes them ?also with laser scan mode is necessary for the markers or without them there is no tracking point. thanks a lot

Raptor in Blue laser will only work if it sees markers (> 4 points) but it this video, I didn't apply markers directly on the object. I put targets around the object instead. What I did is I manually select and delete the surrounded target.

Please scan something at 0.02 mm and show the scan quality at that level for the Raptor.

0.02 mm is advertised accuracy for position of point cloud in space. 0.1mm resolution gives best detail this scanner can give as I have tested it many times. In 1x1 mm there will be maximum 100 points (depend on surface difficulty) calculated from structure light. It's not direct measurement as in LiDAR scanner. If I set it to 0.05 resolution there will be maximum 400 points in one sq.mm and those points are interpolated and not measured by scanner, and this will put more load to software that it's being export to.

@@Payo-TensileCreatorThe 0.1mm resolution is for each frame. When you have many frames there will be points in between which can give you higher resolution when you combine the frames. When converting from the original scan to the point cloud, I don’t think it is interpolating, but using the points from different frames. This can be seen by the fact that if you have a scan with only a few frames, you cannot set a high resolution when converting creating the point cloud from the scan. For example, if you scan with 0.2mm resolution and have many frames, CrealityScan will allow you to create a 0.02mm final point cloud. If you do the same scan with only a few frames, the highest resolution might be something like 0.08mm. This indicates it is not interpolation, but the combination of overlapping frames that gives the possibility to get a high resolution. Like you said, the point in space resolution 0.02mm, and with many frames you can achieve this over a larger area.

I have the Raptor for a couple days now. It’s a nice scanner but I have issues with the fps scanning. I think it’s because of too many marker dots. AMD 5900x, Rtx 3080, 64GB
But I’m unsure and still trying to figure out exactly why the fps are sometimes so slow. 5:11 here you have only 30fps too. But maybe it’s the software.
I’m pretty sure it’s the amount of markers. Too much stuff to compute for the CPU. I used now minimal amount of markers and could get up to 60fps.

    • @Payo-TensileCreator

FPS only drop when it loses the track. But that's for a split of second. I don't even notice it when scanning. If the scanner loses the track, the blue laser line will go off.
I get 50 FPS with 0.15 mm res. in viewport. and 60 FPS with 0.4mm or above res.
More markers don't affect scanning speed on my test. The more I put, the faster I can scan and move the scanner without losing the track.

@@Payo-TensileCreator interesting. Then it must be something else. I will test more. I watched all yt vids available for the raptor and other people had fps drops as well to 20fps in laser mode.
Oh and try and set it to 1mm res and don’t stop the scan when it’s green. You will get the same details when generating the point cloud as if you scanned with 0.1mm res but it will look low res until you generate the point cloud, It’s probably only an indicator thing and don’t do anything to how the scanner is scanning the part.
Looking forward to your review. The hardware is really nice but the software… hmm 🤔
