This is the second video I have watched of yours now which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I've subscribed and I'm going through your other videos when I can. You can get quite emotional about these things, that signal looks as if it's still standing in loyalty for the railway that's long gone. What a lovely find and thanks for sharing your wonderful experience. I have a signal of my own which I bought when I was just 14. It was working and had an iron tubular post 20ft high which was erected in my mum and dads garden from 1968 until around 2009, after my parents had died. There is something great about these old things.
Thank you and thanks for watching. I hope you continue to enjoy the videos and thank you for subscribing. Absolutely agree there is something magnificent about these old structures and the history that is attached to them. New videos out every week so welcome to the journey!
I saw this approximately 45 years ago whilst travelling on a boat on the North Oxford canal which runs close by from Braunston to Hillmorton. So glad it is still standing albeit in need of some TLC. Great video as ever sir.
Thank you and thanks for watching. It is in a pretty poor state but when you consider how long it's been there with no maintenance it's amazing it's still upright!
Nicely done mate! I did get along the cutting about 8 years ago when I first see it. Like you said , impossible now. It takes your breath away, a very sad reminder. Glad you done it 👍
Your videos are always shot through with so much enthusiasm that it becomes infectious. You are one lucky man to have seen that beautiful relic of a bygone age. A definite 10/10 from me.
Thank you David and thanks for your continued support. It is always a delight to find these relics of a bygone age, this one has been on the radar for a while! We must get our walk planned now we have better weather! 😃👍
Lovely yet painful to see. Both my great grandfathers on my mother’s side were GCR and later LNER men, and she used this line between Sheffield and London.
I'd seen a couple of videos about the signal, but I was still hoping to walk up to it from the bridge, however, like you I discovered how massively overgrown the trackbed was!! It wasn't much better further north, it only becomes much clearer on the outskirts of Rugby when it becomes the Great Central Way. I loved how majestic it still looks as it dominates the surrounding area.
There was so much of the great central railway through Leicester on the elevated section through the city from Leicester central but trie to form the whole lot was demolished
Have you explored the remains of the old arms depot near there? It's just north of the prison. I haven't been down there for years, but in the 90s there were clear remains, including an old shed of some kind. They were known as Barby Sidings.
In a word no. I think small sections could be salvaged but as a meaningful line that could be used properly then no. Too much damage and places like whetstone and Leicester where it has been built over in so many places. A real shame.
Thanks for taking us with you, an amazing structure standing as a beacon to a bygone age, hopefully be there for a good few years yet. 👍👍
Thank you. irt really is a forgotten relic and like you i hope it stays there for many years

Wow that's amazing and still lovely thanks for sharing xx
Thank you and thanks for your continued support. It's standing against all the odds

Awesome! Just awesome!
Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
In this day and age that is quite a find. Great to know there are still relics like that around.
Thanks for watching and yes it's a delight to find but unfortunately I don't think there are many left now. A real blast from the past

Thanks Neil. A sad memory of a once great line.
That really is a special find , deserves to be taken care of after lasting this long .
Thank you for watching. I totally agree it is a piece of history but i suppose it will just rust away
@@MiddyExplores Sad , but probably true .
Wow that is amazing. A lost relic, Surprised it's still there. Great explore.
Thanks and thanks for watching. yes i must admit this is one of my favourites to date. such a lovely old relic
How wonderful there is something left standing to show where it was at least! 😄
Yes it's a real find and a miracle it has survived. A real reminder of a forgotten age. Thank you for watching 👍

Thank you for watching. It is a sad fact that these relics are all that remains of this once great line
Wow. Your reaction when you find these treasures is fantastic. Great as always.
Thank you and thanks for watching. I can't help it 😂 I just love to find these old relics of a mostly forgotten age.
That is a fantastic find.
Thanks for watching. It really is a lovely find. I enjoyed this one 👍😃
Amazing
Thanks for watching. It really is a survivor!

Thanks as always. yes this is practically inaccessible from the trackbed but luckily we met the farmer and asked he was fine about us seeing it.
@@MiddyExplores Nice one, when I went down there wasn't a soul around, so I just wandered down.

It's as if they couldn't wait to rip it apart. There are some oddments left through Leicester but even those are under threat 😐
I would guess the farmer knows the importance of the signals existence? Keep going you may find more gems still waiting to be discovered!
Thank you I will! Loads more coming up from the GCR and other gems from our forgotten past
A little further up from there, if you go up the canal that runs along the side, are a couple of great old bridges still passable
Thank you I will check those out 👍

Thanks for watching. I haven't explored that yet but I am in the area so will probably look when I go there next. Thanks for the heads up 👍
Nice! Looking at some maps, did you start from Willoughby Wharf on Longdown Lane and head north towards Rugby?
ah must be as can see it on Google Maps about 300 metres north of there.
Thanks for watching. Yes I did. It's partially hidden .
Do you think it could be rebuilt? Is enough of it left?
In a word no. I think small sections could be salvaged but as a meaningful line that could be used properly then no. Too much damage and places like whetstone and Leicester where it has been built over in so many places. A real shame.
@@MiddyExplores I was meaning the signal in the video, but would have been nice to have the line reopened too. Oh well. ☹️
@@MM0IMC I don't think the signal would survive a move in one piece either. A lovely relic that's destined to live it's last days in this field
