I agree with the comment about it getting easier / quicker... the more you do it and the more you practice - the more things become muscle memory and it's like riding a bike. Never gets "easy" - it's always "hard" but it gets easier to know what to do next when you get stuck.
Once you know all the structures and things that work I feel like most musicians know if they have a good song after the short initial demo idea . Then you can polish the good idea or the turd .
This video has really inspired me as a 12 year old music producer who’s feeling a bit demotivated when it comes to music production right now , but this video reminded me of knowing not everything needs to be “perfect” and that I should persevere, thanks.
Hey man, i find it so cool to end up in corners of the internet like this because i get to virtually meet so many other music producers and that in turn motivates me to produce music. I think its absolutely amazing that a 12 year old kid knows what he wants to do - its not something that happens to every 12 year old kid, even many people my age are still living without a dream. Keep it up! I was once a 12 year old producer as well and I know how sometimes it gets frustrating and difficult. But just know that the more you do it the easier it gets! And yes every artist gets creative blocks, so don't worry about being demotivated!
It's sooo relatable feeling like your brain is fried and you need to take a break but at the same time your brain suddently giving you all these ideas! Man...
This is such a good creative and technical exercise! This helps to shape processes and workflow, for when "real world" timelines demand the same or similar. I think all writers, producers, composers, arrangers, should do this, even if they don't publish it.
Awww that is so cool!! If you are just getting into this then you should definitely join the private community -- really want to make sure we're fostering a great community of producers to help each other.
lol good work! Great experiment. This goes to show people it's not easy. I make beats and I write. Some of the top hits take 30 days to write, maybe months, some hours.
You did it! Great job! This was so much fun to watch, and reminded me alot of myself when I am on a deadline - In one second the adrenaline kick from the extreme joy when the pieces of the production comes perfectly together combined with a sudden lack of confidence and a feeling of total failure the next second lol 😂 Thanks for sharing this! I am inspired🙌🤘
Hey Nathan, good to see you back! For me, the process of writing and producing is the interesting part of your videos. I don't care much for the racing against a deadline part. There are professionals that focus on the quality and openly admit they are not fast. But they are precise and people hire them for their sound and the overall quality. I think it's important for people to find a tempo that suits them best... too many deadlines can burn you out fast. After release, people don't care if a song was made in 12 hours or if it took a week.
@@NathanJamesLarsen I mean, you don't have to be so hard on yourself. Seemed a bit like torture... not like you were having fun doing it (except maybe when it was finished.) So much stress is not healthy. (Sadly, I know all about it.)
As simple as it sounds, having your pop filter on a separate stand makes things a whole lot easier, thanks for the tip (i think you mentioned it in the 24 hour video) Great video as always! I cant imagine how tired your ears must have been 😂 I couldn't really hear the drums in the final mix but 12 hours to write, record, produce, mix and everything in between is already a crazy feat 👏🏽 Do you ever think of going back to these songs and seeing what you could have done differently and maybe make it sound "better"?
Hey man great song!!!! It’s incredibly impressive to have such a song put together from A to Z in that amount of time and release it. Your determination and confidence is quite inspirational.
What an absolute vibe! Amazing what you can get done when you push yourself to the limit. Watching what you did in 24 hours now lol. This was soooo good.
Super video 👍..... I definitely need to learn how to play piano properly as you illustrate how much of an underrated skill it is in production. Well done all around...... the tune is great 🤓👍
ive had writers block recently and seeing this made me think "Woah, this guys whole process is exactly like mine" now i can finally finish my song, thank you.
I love your educational videos and especially the challenges that you set yourself Nathan so well done. What i didn't like was the comments about the song being outdated and the use of AI but that's just a joke to me. I love to write myself and you always put me back on the boat off lyrics when I feel that I am sinking and drowning in the sea of crazy creativity.😊
Hi, is cool how much Logic pro can be used for.... I got some questions as someone new to recording myself as a singer... Can Logic Pro be used for live looping in the same way as a dedicated looping station like the Boss RC-505 MKII, or do these two systems work quite differently? I already have Logic Pro on my MacBook and want to start recording myself singing layered harmonies, octaves, and then adding acoustic instruments like a flute or a MIDI instrument such as the ROLI Seaboard. Right now, my primary focus is using my voice creatively, and I have a Shure SM7B. I’m trying to decide between buying a looping station like the Boss RC-505 or a small MIDI controller or pedal that would make controlling Logic Pro’s looping features more convenient during live performances. Could you advise on the pros and cons of these two different approaches for live looping and singing, maybe even for Voice Acting? really need some advice of where to put my budget in the right way and get started more creatively... - thanks for getting back!
So freaking ME when I'm trying to make a song!!😭😭Finding the right sounds, the right drums and the right this and that is absolutely exhausting but eventually, I get around my own mental blocks and create very powerful feeling inducing songs and it's just a constant learning exam for me but I always get better!🎹🎵💪
Mate, you're INSANE. Yes yes yes to the swing! "you can never leave" tickled my brain just right. And major belly laughs from this video. 6 hour song creation when?
Hahaha love it! Glad you enjoyed it!! Oh sheesh 6 hours... ? Man... I don't feel like I could get something "releasable" in 6 hours with my specific style but I could do that with something more "pop" for sure. I have thought of doing something like 2hr vs 6hr vs 24hr song or something so you can kind of hear the progression more side by side or sometihing.
Elton John and his band, back in their heyday, wrote and recorded a song a day. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was written and recorded in 2 weeks. Technology has slowed us down majorly, you did good work!
@@mrscottify they were not layering almost 100 pieces together. It's a bit weird to make these kinds of comparisons. I can pretty much guarantee that if artists from other eras had the technology we have - they'd be leveraging it
(Only writing this to maybe help out if you ever do another challenge) I get songs done in 5 hours or less by leaving out the lyrics. Leave out the publishing to all platforms. A song can be instrumental. You could have only posted the song on just RUclips and the challenge should have been a little easier for you. Good job, looked like you made it. I might be missing the point of why you went all production like that, maybe it was your own personal challenge. I don’t know. Have a great day. Thanks for the video/song.
Thank you for sharing the creative process of the music. I think really it's better to work on continuing when especially your ready or feel a lot better, mentally and also physically ok enough to continue working. I don't think maybe forcing yourself to continue especially if your tires in my view helps though or is ok. I think when your tired you rest a bit and if your able to continue after resting, that's ok. If your not i think it's ok to continue the next day or if it happens your inspired later on and it doesn't interrupt your sleep at night (I tho sleep is important. The body needs to rest so you can wake up healthy and strong), I think maybe you could continue, if its not late in the night. I found it interesting seeing some of the things I experience, like searching for a particular sound lol. A particular sound that for me also has a particular tone i want. Please do rest. I understand challenges but, I think, when your tired take breaks and when your inspired to continue, you can continue. Thanks again for sharing this video.
Yeah I am not doing this video saying "You should do this" - not at all. It's a fun challenge and even though I struggled through it at times - I had a LOT of fun with it, and I honestly just don't ever take myself OR these challenges too seriously

I did this too for a 6 track album, write, record and release one song each day. The stress was so intense I had to take a day off after three days because my body was completely drained and was aching so much. I wouldn't recommend it actually.
Do two songs complete a week. 2 days each on production, 2 days each on songwriting, 1 day of recording, and 1 day of mixing, sit on it and listen the next day for finishing touches on both mixes and master. Then do that each week. No burn out and stress and you finish 6 songs in a month

Nooo way. I can’t make a good song in months but you make a hit in a day. Keep going, you’re crazy🤗
It gets quicker the better you get and knowing how to use the tools to make the sounds in your head in my experience
I agree with the comment about it getting easier / quicker... the more you do it and the more you practice - the more things become muscle memory and it's like riding a bike. Never gets "easy" - it's always "hard" but it gets easier to know what to do next when you get stuck.
