Trust me critic. As a Brit I can guarantee that electrocution advert is tame compared to some other psas I suffered through when I was a kid. Men barfing dead rats for no smoking; a woman being hit by an invisible car in a pub to warn of drunk driving and an entire classroom of preschoolers getting run over (though that was technically Ireland). You have no idea the level of educational fear my country is capable of inducing into the minds of the younger generation

Don't forget good old apaches with the girl drinking weed killer and her insides basically melting as she screams for her parents. Good times that scarred me for life.
The teddy bear the stories were written about was called Pooh bear before the name was extended to Winnie the Pooh after the real Christopher Robin saw a bear named Winnie at the zoo.
21:04 Someone's probably already mentioned this by now, but I may as well. Women ARE paid equally to men, Doug. Calling it a *wage* gap is a lie, because wage discrimination is illegal. There is only an *earnings* gap. Women earn less in total than men. The reasons are many, but can be summarized as: men are more willing to trade health, safety, and family time for money. Whenever you hear that women earn less than men, factor in that men are over 90% of workplace deaths. Does that sound like a fair trade-off to you? Also, the Green Goblin is saying, "You're running out of Froot Loops."
+MyScorpion Jobs with greater danger, longer work times and less regular work times tend to pay more. Males tend to dominate more dangerous jobs, as well as jobs with less regular working times. Women also tend to work less hours a week on average. All of these factors cause the average earnings of female leaders to be lower than those of male leaders in business.
Immortal Avenger yeah I had no problem understanding that the first time I heard it. Even though the word is kind of garbled just think about the rest of the sentence and think of a word that sounds right and fits the context. Not hard. Id completely ignore the whole thing if any of the words critic suggested it might be were even remotely funny. Alas...they were not, and the poor joke fell flat on its face and died
The simple reason why the Game *Boy* did better than the Game *Gear* is because while the latter had better hardware (due to literally being a handheld Sega Master System, to the point that it could actually play most of its games with the help of a bulky cartridge adapter), the former was more affordable for the average consumer, lasted longer on less batteries and had better software. (Super Mario Land, Zelda: Link's Awakening, Kirby's Dream Land, Metroid II, Tetris, etc.)
Funny thing is, I don't remember that one as a British PSA. I saw it as an extended education video. I remembered the class laughing their ass off cuz before kid no.2 ran after kid no.1, he himself was watching and ignoring an education video of a long montage of kids getting electrocuted. Yeah, after a while it gets less disturbing and more of a black comedy vibe, cuz you know its gonna end badly.
Wasn't that one from Ireland? Not the electrical safety one, that's definitely ours, but I remember an episode of Good News where they showed a similar advert (kids crushed by a car), that they claimed was from our neighbouring country.
Toby Sweetman he plans his ads spots for his own website where he can put the ad where he wants, while I imagine RUclips uses some kind of algorithm to determine were it splits the video and mic doesn't really get a say in where the ads are placed
Jacob Carter you're right but sometimes people are afraid to speak up and many industries encourage employees to not discuss their pay amongst each other.
+Mrisa White And even then, while equal pay may be in place they may simply not be working as much, and that's going to lead to lower earnings for perfectly valid reasons.
Canadian commercials are literally the best, the "Don't Stick it in your mouth" and house hippo one are classics from my youth. They bring back vivid flashes of the mid to late 90s.
The comments: 30% "The Goblin is saying 'you're running out of fluid'". 30% "The wage gap has been debunked" (people who are saying it's a myth is using the word myth incorrectly). 30% "Who's fursuit it that?/Malcolm (black guy) is a furry?!" 7% Other 3% "That was mild British PSA".
Myth an unproved or false collective belief that is used to justify a social institution. any invented story, idea, or concept. __________ They're correct, the wage gap is indeed a myth by definition.
LikeGdz Myth - a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events. But words do have multiple definitions. Thanks language
Francisco As you pointed out, words do have different definitions, and while the use of "myth" in this case, wouldn't fit the original definition of the word, it certainly fits a lot of other definitions, more recent definitions
That young black kid in that Oreos commercial is actually a very young Jaleel White aka Steve Urkel aka Sonic the hedgehog. And I will honestly say I was 1 of those million that watched that starburst commercial on RUclips. I grew up through the 80s and 90s and I had the most unholy, unlucky chance of watching that commercial when it 1st aired.
Batman: What's better than the Federal Equal Pay Law? Batgirl: ... (The two later reenact the 'SCENE' from The Killing Joke in front of the psychologically scarred, and unfortunately tied Robin)
The again, when did superheroes gets paid? I thought they do it to make a difference without money, and Batman does not need it because he has a lot of it.
*+Xehanort10* I was all for equal pay for women until feminists showed their videos, then i heard about the reasons why women are paid less. Actually, Batgirl seems like a modern day feminist here because she's willing to let two men die just because she's paid alittle less than Robin. I wouldnt pay a woman less but i'd sure as heck fire her if she'd be willing to kill me and my coworker just to prove her point.
Dingly Do Sometimes RUclips ads that literally show off RUclips logo and/or sometimes play a jingle along with it pop up out of nowhere, neither in the beginning nor in the end of it.
...I dunno, I actually didn't have a ton of an issue with it. Boiling Pot Commercial > Britain Dying Children Commercial > Rape Whistle > Dick in the Mouth > House Hippo of Love
*Batman* batgirl, of course Robin get's paid more, He's my adopted son and gets paid an allowance. It's not my fault you desire to help us, and it's not my fault your dad doesn't give you an Allowance either.
Same here! I remember the first time I ever saw it I really wanted to find the house hippos in my house...Then they told me it wasn't real and I was sad :(
As a kid, I once had a dream that I actually had a house hippo, when I awoke, I was slightly disheartened with a genuine feeling of "loss", but I realized I was glad to have at least the memory where the majestic house hippo was real! Dreams are Weird!
Doug's other mistake: that's actually not Adam West playing Batman in the PSA. This was during the time when he wanted to distance himself from the show, so he refused to come back for this. The more you know...
@@mr_lrb6879 plus he's wrong about the wage gap thing too. The quote study if you can even call it that because how god damn uncontrolled it was simply compared average earnings of men to average earningd of women not accounting for things like position hours worked overtime worked etc.
@@TheMadwomen There's no need, far as I can tell since logic is a thing. The main goal of companies is profit. If they can make more by exclusively hiring women because they can be paid less, why wouldn't they? Also, the 1963 Equal Pay Act exists, making paying women (or anyone on the basis of race, Creed, or sexuality) illegal. If you would still like a link, please let me know.
Jack Bennett What sort of logic do you have? Do you think the guys that make the paychecks have to listen to some interdimensional power that prevents them changing how much people get paid? No! They would pay the guys the exact same low price as the gals. But no, they pay women lower wages because employers "feel they're inexperienced" or some other excuse to deny allegations of sexism. Now, people also say that the reason for the gap is because women "choose lower paying jobs". Let's ignore that many studies compare the pay of men and women with the same job and still come to the wage gap conclusion. What do they mean when they say "choose"? It's not like I go into a random business and declare myself CEO. You have to apply to the job, and they choose you depending on what they're looking for. Thus, if we go by that metric, I would argue that the problem isn't that "women choose low-paying jobs" but rather "employers aren't hireing women". Not to mention why women have to go with certain low-paying jobs like teacher, or even why said jobs are low-paying even if they're stupidly important. Now, I'll ask again. Since you and I have probably seen the same sources that vouch for my side of the story, can you show me a professional study or 2 that agrees with your conclusion?
......OK, I legitimately did not expect to see you here. I actually watched that video of yours, too. It's how I knew just what the Critic was getting himself into. And here he thought Canada's PSAs were scary.

Gola245 Not to mention the fact that the whole Channel Awesome-verse now exists in a literal plot hole, meaning any semblance of continuity comes and goes.
The irony is OVERWHELMING. Doug pushes the modern wage gap myth while criticizing a commercial that exists to prove that the prospect of a wage gap is illegal. Then the very next fucking one is a PSA specifically about being skeptical of claims you hear on TV. I'm astounded by the ultimate act of cosmic irony.
I think it's fair to say that in this particular instance the line's blurred. And if it's not, guess that's a thumbs up for shilling propaganda in-character?
Here's a fun fact! Mac Tonight was portrayed by Doug Jones. As in Homo Sapien from hellboy, Fauno and the Pale Man from Pans Labyrinth, the creature from the Shape of Water, Billy Butchers on from Hocus Pocus, Captain Saru from Star Trek and many other great creatures from cinema and tv!

1:19 "You're running out of fluid" as in running out of spider web fluid
I usually ran out of fluid during Baywatch marathons
Immortal Avenger yeah I had no problem understanding that the first time I heard it. Even though the word is kind of garbled just think about the rest of the sentence and think of a word that sounds right and fits the context. Not hard. Id completely ignore the whole thing if any of the words critic suggested it might be were even remotely funny. Alas...they were not, and the poor joke fell flat on its face and died
He got close with “Your running out of flu weed!”

Critic: “You’re the new Canada!!! YOU CAN KEEP TERRY GILLIAM!!!”
Me, an intellectual: “You picked the only Monty Python member who’s American.”
That was the idea im pretty sure. "you can keep him, we dont want him back".
NC: "Oh a British PSA"
Me: "Oh shit"
And that is far from the worst one out there as well!
How about that one saying "stay away from shallow waters" with the fucking grim reaper going "so many children have drowned here, such is life."
What about the one where a whole class of 5-year olds is crushed by a car, in the middle of their song.
Apaches. That is all.
Think that Ice Cream lunatic was actually that Satan eyes Oreo kid grown up... it makes too much sense.
I EAT little baby's ice cream.....it keeps me young....it keeps me light on my feet...little baby's ice cream is A FEELING
But that was funny
Except for one thing.
The little baby’s person who’s “eating” themselves. Is FEMALE 🧐
27:10
Ooooooh seeing him rip this commercial apart was beyond satisfying.
You thought the british electric safety ad was horrifying, wait till you see the Irish road safety ads. Like damn.
IrishWolven I've seen both. I'm extremely horrified
IrishWolven I hate my country's road safety ads. I know it's an important issue but I hate them.
im from canada and even i found are adds scary
How bad can Irish road safety be?

Me, remembering the Superman review: *I EAT JESUS! I EAT JESUS! I EAT JESUS!*
Instead of the ad being in the middle where you planned it, I had 4 separate unskippable ads. RUclips is a joke with their ads.
AdBlock is your friend.
Adblock.
Toby Sweetman he plans his ads spots for his own website where he can put the ad where he wants, while I imagine RUclips uses some kind of algorithm to determine were it splits the video and mic doesn't really get a say in where the ads are placed
ngoyette94 I've seen many tubers position their ads where they want and are able to remove ads if there's too many.
Just get adblock+. It's takes like one min to install, and then you'll never see another ad again.
25:49 And here we have the mating call of the wild and endangered Nostalgia Critic
What a beautiful creature he is
So graceful and electrical.(pun intended)
I feel like buying a black couch now.

What makes this even funnier is the fact that Starburst brought back the little lad for TikTok in the 2020's.

Yep... that's how we make adverts (British word for commercials) round here
You respect the house hippo. Those little cuties are the mascot for my generation of Canadians. I frigging loved those commercials as a kid
but, legit, that British commercial was life-ruining
as a Brit i like the hippo ad to but that ice cream was scary as shit
Sigh
I remember those commercials. They were great
Canadian commercials are literally the best, the "Don't Stick it in your mouth" and house hippo one are classics from my youth. They bring back vivid flashes of the mid to late 90s.
I like that the Spider-Man game was made by a company called "Parker" brothers

That young black kid in that Oreos commercial is actually a very young Jaleel White aka Steve Urkel aka Sonic the hedgehog.

Wait, which one? The Starburst or the Oreos?
Batman: What's better than the Federal Equal Pay Law?
Batgirl: ...
(The two later reenact the 'SCENE' from The Killing Joke in front of the psychologically scarred, and unfortunately tied Robin)
Glen Wang | that is how the ad should have ended
So Batgirl's willing to let Batman and Robin die just because she doesn't think she gets equal pay to them? Way to make Batgirl evil advert.
The again, when did superheroes gets paid? I thought they do it to make a difference without money, and Batman does not need it because he has a lot of it.
OperatorOfController Well it may be not true today, that advert was made in the 60s back when the wage gap was a problem.
I finally got the point of the black ads.
It's an ad space. Literally
Or maybe its because you have adblock...
Those ad spaces showed up plenty of times in the 80s-90s
They always freaked me out
Dingly Do Sometimes RUclips ads that literally show off RUclips logo and/or sometimes play a jingle along with it pop up out of nowhere, neither in the beginning nor in the end of it.
Yep. Could have put an ad where the ad goes saying you could put an ad there, but nope; back then they went with black screens.

I saw ONE SECOND of the House Hippo one and knew right away what it was. It was the best commercial when I was growing up
It doesn't make up for the other 3 commercials. YOU'RE SICK, CANADAAAAAAAAAA!

@@mr_lrb6879 plus he's wrong about the wage gap thing too. The quote study if you can even call it that because how god damn uncontrolled it was simply compared average earnings of men to average earningd of women not accounting for things like position hours worked overtime worked etc.
Jack Bennett
Can you providw a link to a study that says theres just equal pay?
@@TheMadwomen There's no need, far as I can tell since logic is a thing. The main goal of companies is profit. If they can make more by exclusively hiring women because they can be paid less, why wouldn't they? Also, the 1963 Equal Pay Act exists, making paying women (or anyone on the basis of race, Creed, or sexuality) illegal. If you would still like a link, please let me know.
Jack Bennett
What sort of logic do you have?
Nostalgia Critic. My last line of defense against depression.
My brother's friend introduced me to one of your commercial videos when I was 14-15 and I've been a fan ever since!

So she's not talking about annual earnings but her wage what she gets paid an hour.
Robin also probably has more sexual harassment concerns that Batgirl.
