Glad I sat down and actually watched this. I was far to impatient to watch it before. But now that I have, you've done an awesome job of explaining everything that needs to happen for it to work. Thanks again guy. Sorry I didn't watch it sooner! 01 town car here. Needs door ajar switches. Should be able to get them out now. (Thing probably still needs a dang DDM though)
Thanks for the video. I recently purchased a P71 a few weeks ago. I thought I could cut some corners when I watched your video, but I had no luck. I spent an hour or so on the first door and after watching your video for the third time (part 2), I "Listen and watched carefully". For those watching, you have to remove the door handle part taking out the 3 rivets. The other door took me 15 minutes to do. Thanks again.
Thanks for your Videos, i‘ve just done this on my 2009 P71 and it takes me just one Hour because of your Perfect Instruktion 🙏🏻 Greetings from Germany!
I went through all of this after finding out that my pins were still in my door handles. When I finally got the door apart, I realized the rods were still in there. It took me a half hour to figure out what was wrong. There are actually little switches on the back door latches that make them child-proof. All I had to do was flip the switches and the doors worked. I wish I knew that before I took the doors apart. LOL.
I have the door rod in but my electric lock thing won’t work anymore it will try to lock and unlock but it won’t and I made sure to put the locking rod back in after I put the the door rod in
The main thing you have to do is disconnect the control rods in the door, then you can slide the door latch and rod to the left and gives you room to get at the connection!
I can’t get the rod to stay on the plastic slider on the lock side how do I keep it there also seems like there too much tension on the rod when it’s in place
I'm not quite understanding. On the latch side the rod goes through the nylon bushing on the latch picture around 10.43. This also shows the rod to the electric lock mechanism. If the rod to the actuator is on the wrong side it could cause too much tension? Door handle end install at 13:40.
Removing the plastic clip that holds the rod from the latch to the electric lock mechanism. You have to remove it to be able to twist the latch and put the rod to the door handle in.

Thanks! Glad to help out!
Well..it looks like my back door will not be opening from the inside..LOL
Thanks. You are a lifesaver. I struggled with this for hours. I paid someone to do it on my 2006. My 2009 had it done. I am doing this now on my 2011.
Awesome I am glad I was able to help!

Your welcome. Glad to hear that. The Grand Marquis/Crown Victoria are one of the best cars ever!
To anyone fighting plastic clips, soapy water makes it super slick while you're working and not when it dries out
Thanks for that tip. Much obliged. 👍✌️
@@olliefoxx7165 Yes, thank you...
Thanks for coaching me through this job!
Your Welcome

Yessir! I’ve always Checked the child proof locks. But to be honest, I have had many of these P71 cars and it’s never been that easy for me!
@@duanebailey2216 apparently I am not very experienced at this. Thanks for the great video, though. I hope you get more subscribers.
You say there are switches that have to be flipped to turn off the child proofing?? Have anymore info on that ?
Thank you for making these videos! Much appreciated
Your welcome!
👍 nice...but I'm thinking using a grinder to make a better opening by the door latch area😄🙄

Most times when the locking actuator won’t work it’s the switch or the electrical plugs. Check those.
@@upstatetractorworks6438 everything is plugged in, it works for a little then it stops
@@upstatetractorworks6438 it’s almost like it doesn’t have enough power to push the locking rod
I looked into it and I think I found it, I think I might have to replace my actuator since it may have gone bad or I broke it while inserting the rod
What are the extra screw things I need?
Are you referring to the bolts I used to replace the rivets with? They’re half inch long 5/16 bolts with Nylok nuts.

The other videos were garbage in comparison.
Does that rod snap into the white grommet, or does it just sit there loosely
connect through the white nylon gromet or clip to hold the rod to the latch mechanism.

Could anyone can get me dimensions of these rod?
Go look online ford oem parts type in your vehicle information
And look for Part :# 5426442
I’m Not sure what you were trying to do with that pic and screwdriver. Does anybody have a door with a better view
