I landed in Courchevel last winter, with a Jodel D140 from l'Alpe d'Huez altiport, it was amazing ! I've seen some big twin turboprop aircrafts in Courchevel, and it used to have a direct flight to Paris flown by a Dash 8 with short landing and takeoff capabilities. Great video btw
old friend of mine is flying helicopters in the R.A.F ... wouldve been me as well had it not been for my eyesight...i have nothing but respect for the people that fly....as for this video? fantastic have never seen a better video on youtube....thanx fjghy
This is seriously amazing! We filmed a Baron 58 just missing the roof of a multi million pound house for our internet show. The guys has to do it everytime to land in the field behind his house.
Excellent video.I´ve never seen an airport like that. I hope to have a chance to land and later a very short take off from there. I love the sky jump runway. Fantastic!
my fully respect, not only for this pilot same for all air or sea captains challenging daily such tricky situations. If you would come from outer space you might say: These human beings on two feet are really crazy.
Fantastic skill and professionalism, truly inspiring flying - we have similar 'mountain slope' runways here in Africa where you end up parking higher up than what your approach altitude was, not only special aviators but special airplanes make these landings possible.
For all those bad landing comments....Short field landings are meant to be planted on, not caressed. The point is to get down and stop, so a 3 pointer is acceptable here. Nice job!
I have had a pleasure flight from here and I can promise you it is as alarming as he says, especially the snow bank on the threshold. This is coming from a glider pilot who knows about steep angles or two on finals! Happy flying
Wow, that looks crazy. Check out that snow bank lip right before landing. Still, to me, a non-pilot, I think there is less margin for error in the Lukla airport. There is no chance of going around there, you're in a deep valley, fully committed and the runway is shorter with a big mountain at the end.
what if u didn't make it all the way up the hill on landing? Would the plane have enough power to pull it's self up or would the pilot have to put in the parkbrake and let someone tow him up?
It shouldn't be scary if you checked the performance graph (aircraft manual) to see if you are in the safe envelope for take off or landing! All The Best Wolpjame, Chris from San Diego, ATP
I know of a B200 that landed but.. he broke the wings so badly the engines touched the ground hell of a "Hard Landing" To recover the plane they had to saw off the wings remove the tail for the transport. After straightening the fuselage and a new wing from Raytheon the airplane flew again 2 years later!
for those who criticize, you probably do your flying on flight simulator and get smooth everytime without the fear of failure. you clearly know nothing of mountain flying and in any event any landing you walk away from with the aircraft intact is a good landing.
Damn, when the pilot was just passing over the runway threshold it looked like he was going to rip off the landing gear. That was pretty damn close though!
I recomend not to go by automatic mode as the automatic mixture control compensation might not work in such a critical landing!( remember the old saying, if it can it will, just a matter of time) I would rather put my life in a standard procedure format in this case. All The Best mpjswart, Chris from San Diego, ATP
Great flying but there is one serious and potential risk in the pilots procedures, the airfield is at 6,500 feet and on his short approach he takes the mixture to full rich! This can pontentially cause a power loss at that altitude, not a very good idea!! I think the Doc. needs to rethink this. All The Best Everyone , Chris from San Diego , ATP

Wow hairy! Well landed Dr Rose. I skied past it yesterday and didn't realise how tricky landing a light aircraft might be.
He's truly smashing the plane on the runway... AWESOME!!!

"And now we're flying straight at that snow bank...."
:P

COOL SOUND QUALITY DUDE.

wow. that was an ... interesting landing .

Awesome landing!
ok, great video pilot speaks great english and flies his aircraft very well!
Wow!!! Great view frpm the airplane!!! Awesome airport!!!
amazing landing
That doctor has a great life! +1 for him. I would love to fly up there.
Great video, interesting, good filming, good explanations.
Very nice video, but a shame for the quality.
Could you reupload this vid?
Btw, most beautiful landing spot in the world!

Superb! Thanks for sharing. You made it look easy, I know it isn't...
what if u didn't make it all the way up the hill on landing? Would the plane have enough power to pull it's self up or would the pilot have to put in the parkbrake and let someone tow him up?
Pilots definitely got balls of steel!!!JUST WATCHING THIS I NEARLY SHITTED MY BRIEFS.
Yes, I agree, especially the twin engined aircraft with all it's power.
Great landing. Gotta plant those ones firm.
BANG!!!
Holy Sh*t!! Talk about a high pucker factor on the approach.
That's just beautiful. Welcome to the average Alaskan flying daily.
very cool . thanks for sharing
filmed in a helicopter
Opening scene is a cessna 414 or maybe a 421 taking off?
That better be some GREAT skiing.

at first i thought that was just the sound of the helicopter they were flying in, but then it continued over the interview with the guy on the ground.
Hello, nice video ! What would be the ground speed at landing at that altitude?
how did you get the video of the ATC at the airport giving the plane that you are in clearance to land
Nice posting of an interesting Vid.
I've landed a King Air at a similar private strip in Wyoming. Departing @ max weight on a hot day at high elevation is much scarier than landing!
ooff! hard landing but hey, ya do what ya gotta do.
Man, it is a one shot mission!!!!!
holy moly, what a ride.
NICE! Doubt I would ever land there!!! :-))
AWSOME FLYING !!
what have you done in piloting?what license do you have?
Is there anyway you can get rid of that static noise?!
where exactly did you recieve your moutain airfield training? I know they don't just hand that certification out to just anyone.
Respect!

Super!
....MY BARON 58 IS NOT READY YET!
great video 5 stars
Got to love that sturdy Baron undercarriage. Lucky he didn't bend a prop.
Is this a roller coaster or an aircraft carrier?
Good job!! ATP, 777-200ER
Not a bad landing, just a short field landing. The goal is to get the plane to touch down quick, not to land smoothly.
Cool
Sweet skill.
WOW .... not bad ! ;=)
for those who criticize, you probably do your flying on flight simulator and get smooth everytime without the fear of failure. you clearly know nothing of mountain flying and in any event any landing you walk away from with the aircraft intact is a good landing.
I've been there!
A wee bit bumpy @ 4:44-4:47
Is that the runway they used in GoldenEye? the buildings are not right but those could have been temporary buildings in the movie.
@tom080955 "No hump = bump into the mountain" (the slope sure helps to reduce speed).
Damn, when the pilot was just passing over the runway threshold it looked like he was going to rip off the landing gear. That was pretty damn close though!
Anyone any idea what the hit rate is for Courcheval in real life? I mean are the mountains ahead or is it a close run thing?
Now that's a great pilot and a perfect landing.
how do they get the fire engines and snowplows etc up there?
The same roads they use to get the pilots and passengers to and from the airport.
"It looks like we're heading for that bank of snow; which I suppose we are, really."
NOT a comforting thing to hear your pilot say!
I recomend not to go by automatic mode as the automatic mixture control compensation might not work in such a critical landing!( remember the old saying, if it can it will, just a matter of time) I would rather put my life in a standard procedure format in this case. pilot who land here have major cahonies ans skill
was this on tv??????
I wonder what the first landing must be like..... serious pucker factor.
Looks like fun, though.
What a pounder, damn!
This is fucking EPIC!!!
WOW
fair enough comment never knew that about the baron
genius, tiny stripe of concrete in the middle of snow desert approaching at much too fast !
He stuck it like he should for that field. You have to use your gravity and keep weight on wheels, - notice no bounce. Great video!
240 p, we met again...
whats this airport called??
It's Helicopter !! :D
that shuttering noise was pretty annoying to be honest. Besides that. That's a talented pilot
No, he means they stopped, and they used a parking brake to sit on the runway, but they fail.
respect in flight sim i need 4 approch's for this airport
hard landing :O
good landing. but strange field...don't know would i like to fly there...one shot only. but then, why not? :)
Definitely got the three wire on that landing
3:45 it seems like he's gonna fly right into the mountain lol
Add throttle to the engines to get you up the hill.
don't need the static noise
kaplunk! as we aviators say when you feel the gear strut go up your fanny...
@littelG333 d-day was in 1944 :)
@formber Me too! I'd prefer to drive their in a rear wheel drive car on British summer tyres LOL. The no second chances airport.
WTF?! A Ski slope runway? :O
you bet !
This airport is very very very very dangerous. The pilot didnt even land safe, but he landaded.
Even as a pilot I gotta say nope to this one. I’ll take a nice fast mountain drive to that ski resort instead
Great flying but there is one serious and potential risk in the pilots procedures, the airfield is at 6,500 feet and on his short approach he takes the mixture to full rich! It was filmed from a helicopter.
4:44 SMASH!!!
