- Got invited by Matt's Offroad Recovery to help with getting a vehicle out of the Muddy River near Hanksville Utah. Was definitely a little more stuck than i expected. Nothing Trailmater couldnt handle tho.
Rory carries 5 winches and every concievable piece of equipment, plus some, and back ups. Matt travels light, he doesn't even like to have a full tank of gas. The odd couple of off road recovery.
6 winches
"Doesn't even have a full tank of gas." This is hilarious.
I was thinking the same thing. It really is amazing how little Matt carries, but in his defense his primary area is the sand dunes where being light really is important. Thus isn't the first time Rory and all his gear has come to Matt's rescue.
That is funny! The odd couple of off road recovery. So true.
Rory is a badass. A man of few words, but masterful at solving problems without telling anyone exactly what he's doing.
Truth.... Reminds me of my father in a lot of those ways.
He just shuts up and gets to work.
Rory is in fact a master rigger.
And that’s the problem lol he needs to show and tell for better content for himself 🤷♂️
@@jessieoropeza5430 I know why you feel that way but trust me....his results do all of the talking.
We would all be wise to follow his lead and just learn. :)
Matt's a good friend. Having friends like that is worth the world! All the best!
Trail Mater saves the day. It's fun watching how capable this rig is. Keep em coming.
What a BEAST of a truck....!!!!!
When looking at it for the first time and someone compares it to a modern tow truck, the first thought would be WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS THING..???
not realizing that you don't judge a book by it's cover, this BEAST will do what no other tow truck can do...!!!!
These men have each an awesome demeanor with the same intentions, providing incredible recoveries with their own devices. Great job you two ! It's not a competition, it's passion for what they both provide. 👍
You pulled up beside Mr. Matt at 01:45 and his tires and wheels looked like he was going backwards, he throttled it, for a second or two they stood still then he was gone forward again, and you smile said it all…
Loved the camaraderie amongst the group, even the customer was having fun at his expense!
You were the unsung hero of this recovery Rory. You drove two hours and quietly got the job done while everyone looked on. Then you were the one who thought to check the diff oil - I can't remember where, but I have seen a similar situation where the diff took on water through its breather. It might have been Paul at Fab Rats, or it might have been Andrew Camarata, but I remember them putting an extender pipe on the final drive breather to get it well above water ingress unless the vehicle managed to become fully submerged. I feel like I need to apologise for only just subscribing to your channel today, because you totally deserve a massive following. Count me in going forward - that's for damn sure.
Hey Rory, I live in the amazing town of Hanksville. glad to see you in this neck of the desert. Its people like you that make southern Utah great.
Wow it's A REALLY GOOD THING MATT Called You , Cause It Was SUPER STUCK ,Good Job 👍
Awesome job, trail-mater is the Swiss army knife of tow rigs.
Love your content Rory. No flash. Just honest work ethic.
I’m really starting to like Rory. He’s a solid man to have in your corner for sure.
he seems so rad and is one heck of a driver
Got to hang out with him several times a couple weeks ago. Hes a solid dude. Straightforward, honest, funny.
@@downbytheriver501 how rad. Exactly how you see him on video!
I like him right off the bat when he show up in WD video to help Heavy D
@@oceanlover1663 I’ll have to look for that. When was that? Got quite the Rory backlog videos.
The more I watch Rory, the more I like him. I love how prepared he is. The Milwaukee packout setup is awesome too!
Rory you have always been the best at getting em out with the wrecker and the tools you have.
Love watching your show.
I am not sure why you do not have 1.0 million subscribers. You are the best!
Love the side by side driving and the smirk! Friends are meant to be harassed every once in awhile!
Who will win.? The Torque of the Big Block or the HP of the LS..? Lol
Good job Rory 👍👍
The first foot can be the toughest part of a recovery 🤔
I had to laugh 😂, we need someone to climb down into the sinking truck and drive it out, who should do it 🤔 how about Lizzy??🤣
👍👍
Hey Matt, nice camera work and support for Rory 😉
Great job and team work. I really like watching these video’s because it seems I always gain a bit more knowledge here and there. I just added checking the rear axle for water intrusion to my list. 👍
And I added the necessary tool to my recovery tool kit.
Wet sand sticks are common where I live in the deep south. Sometimes impossible to just pull them out as you can tear otherwise solid hookup points right out of the frame or twist frames by pulling too hard. Trick is to dig the recovery vehicle in, tie two recovery vehicles together or run a cable from recovery vehicle to something solid. Then be careful and patient. Winch tight and stop before you think something is going to break then wait 5 minutes and winch a tiny bit more, going by the winch sound. Keep doing this over time, I have had them take well over an hour until the suction finally breaks and they pop right out.
That's an excellent point you brought up - and one we think little to nothing about. Trying to pull your foot out of mud that has barely covered the top of your shoe often leaves the shoe itself buried in the mud - and only if your lucky.
Wondering if there'd be a way to introduce compressed air via a hose attached to a solid pipe that a helper could hold and 'inject' air in between the stuck tire/rim and the mud? - Or perhaps it would have a totally opposite effect and simply bury the vehicle even further into the mud?
@@dawabbitt3079 maybe a specifically-designed air bag that digs in under the tire, then inflates? That way the bag itself breaks some contact? I'm not sure, there's a reason I don't do recovery work hahaha
Trail Mater does it again. It’s amazing what you and that rig are capable of doing.
That was another good one. I've said it before, really liking the collaboration videos.
There were two vertical "steps" on the bank coming out holding both front and rear wheels at the same time. it had to be lifted over both at the same time and that is difficult when you are just pulling. This was very difficult, but you did the job very well. Nothing broken or bent and its out. This was the perfect vehicle for this job. Awesome job!
Trail Mater and Rory is a serious combination. Love to see the team up with Matt and company.
Matt's Off Road Recovery
FabRats and Robby Layton my favorite RUclips Channels, Have liked and subscribed this channel when I seen Rory helping Matt out last video, good bloke. Take care fellas.
That rig is amazing! Matt, Rory...you guys are amazing at what you do. Hope to see you on the trails...NOT pulling me out...🤔😆😁
You and Matt are awesome Love both of your videos no matter when they come up I love watching them you know you put a smile on my face!
My husband and I really like watching your videos. We love that you’re not flashy, just great content and a great guy!
Hey Rory. That was a fun recovery adventure video. Great to see the collaboration with Matt and crew. Just cool to see 2 different approaches to the problem. Glad you were there to winch him out.
Your rig is awesome, as scrappy as it looks, when you put it into action, you can see all of the thought and wisdom that went into the build. It also looks like that stuck vehicle had a winch; nothing sucks worse than being stuck and having nothing to connect a winch to.
I once watched a documentary from a guy in Australia who showed, how to use the spare tire, dug in the sand like an anchor for his winch to pull himself out of his misery. I could never forget this trick even I would never have to try it.
@@robertofrank5163 I have seen Rory and Paul at Fab Rats use a spare tyre and winch to lift the front end to reduce suction and then winch it out.
@@nsbhagwat Sounds also like a good solution!
Solid video man! I can't wait to watch this channel build! Watching you guys do your thing is so fun, also learn a lot from watching this....just awesome content! 😁
"Give us a verbal update."
"That things stuck."
Love watching you guys work together. The best of the best!
Rory you're a very relatable youtuber. I enjoy your videos and really appreciate your willingness to help out and overall attitude even when things go sideways.
Side note, between you, Matt, Paul, robby, and bleepin jeep and all of your team members is quite the friends group to be envious of. Always helping each other and there for one a other. I love being able to watch any one of all of your videos and see everyone popping in randomly really gives a dimension to the videos that isn't found anywhere.
Exactly!! It's such a treat! Did you see Robby Layton's video of his Matt impression? I laughed my ass off for 10 minutes, it was hilarious!
Also, very cool to enjoy Matt’s spirit behind the camera and his support for his friend. What a good dude he is!
You and that rig never seise to amaze man!! And I love how prepared you are for anything,
You are careful with your tools and setups. Great post. Bob in Nevada
Well done Rory. I always appreciate how much equipment and how many tools you carry around. You have it stored so well, unlike some others who we won't mention by name, who just throw it in the back. 🙂
The trail mater kind of reminds you of a plumber's work van. They haul an entire hardware store in a little 3/4 ton single tire cargo van and they weigh a BUNCH.
@@tumbleweed4185 Well said. My plumber’s the bomb!
I even noticed traction matts on Rory’s truck
Trail Mater kicks ass again not many people would've thought to check that diff your the man
That Matt is a good friend to have. He's not competitive at all and he ain't shy about telling you when you done good.
Yes... I just subscribed and rung that little bell... And yes I'm a fan of the Trail Mater...
A man of few words but big actions and results!👍
That rig was loaded down with camp gear. That must have helped it get good and sucked in too. Crazy how adventure can go so bad. Glad they had your help! You rock! :) thanks for sharing.
You guys make me want to buy a jeep and head to Utah for some off roading adventure.. The scenery you guys capture is second to nun. I look forward to every video.
Thanks for what you do!
It's cool seeing how much your channel has improved over the past 9 or 10 short months. You've gotten much more comfortable on camera, and having more of Mike and Shawn helping with the recoveries and filming has been a great addition. Keep reeling them in, Rory!
Really enjoyed this video, especially when you get to team up with Matt and his gang! Mater and Rory are the recovery champs!
Good call using the winch before something broke with the rope. We will see you guys again soon.
😍🤩ruclips.net/video/Dfhh9I-EAa4/видео.html
That song sounds like he’s hitting puberty every other 5 seconds
Great job Dude, that's wat happen's when u have the Right rig for the job ! 1st Class all the way 👍👍
Nice, no drama, no damage. I'm patently waiting for "street mater" to be rolling out.
That was an amazing recovery. You made it look easy. Thanks for sharing.
Great recovery and thankful to have been able to watch it before heading to work (before 7 a.m.) Funny thing though - Rory was exceptionally quiet throughout this video. 🤔 - Hope everything's ok.
Another great channel…Trail Mater is a beast. Just another day in the office. 🤙
Rory is a pro! And Trail Mater is a beast!
I think it was too small , you need to chuck it back in. 🤔😉😅🤣🤣🤣
😂🤣😂
I bet that was an epic run right up until he was stuck.
Great to see you in action again, lovely to see Matts Off road recovery there also good back up in case it went really wrong.
A good friend to have. Cheers Rory.
Hey, Rory. I just drifted over from Matt's channel. Excellent recovery, and quit the rig you've got there. I know Matt has mentioned admiring your rig a number of times when you've been involved in rescues or rock-crawling, and I found myself wondering if his admiration for your setup is what has prompted him to start his latest project of the ultimate recovery truck. Either way, you guys work well together, and it's such a pleasure seeing people working in harmony with each other. Good job!
Keep the content coming Rory! You have a different style… embrace it rockstar! We love it!
That’s what this truck was made for !
No way Matt’s could have done without you ! You guys work great together ..
Awesome 👏🏻 👍🏻👍🏻
The doors are an awesome upgrade, great job on the recovery, love your videos
Matt could not of picked a better person to help him! Great job and video!
You are an off road recovery beast!!! Your truck is an amazing machine!!!
Great video guys... it just goes to show everyone what the preparations for a successful tow must include, EVERYTHING.! Be ready for anything, that’s why these guys are successful
Give it another year or two, and we just might see Rory with an off-road Rotator Rig. Do they make a rotator like Ron Pratt's with all wheel drive and all terrain tires? If not, I expect Heavy Dave Sparks could make him one.
Glad you got him out. That's remote country between Factory Butte and Goblin. Crossed it many times and turned around a few times at the Muddy River Crossing. Have gotten out and waded across usually has a soild gravel base. Take Care another excellent remote recovery.
That's the funniest looking catfish I've ever seen pulled out of a river, and the largest one too! Rory is the Dr. Surgeon Extractor Extraordinaire, and Trail Mater is his scalpel/ bone saw/spreader medical tool ... kudos to always impressing us Ror' 👍👍👍😊😊😊
"medical MULTI-tool"
Not just stuck .. embedded I'd reckon. Interesting system of extraction. We've got the same in Oz Rory.. miles upon miles of nothing just boring driving. Thanks for sharing mate. Bushyboy Oz.
Great recovery Rory and Matt, That was one stuck vehicle. Thanks for sharing.
Every time I see that truck I can't help but think of Mad Max movies. You really have it set up well for recovery work.
It’s crazy how time goes by. You posted this 2 weeks ago and Matt posted it 9 hours ago! Lol. You do great work. Thank you
Every time I see Trail mater in action I get more respect for that truck, and its operator. Trail mater is really getting a personality.
Man, I love how prepared you always are, wish I could come pay you to teach me all that amazing stuff, or even just to ride along and film and learn, I’d pay so much for that.
You'd ask to many questions.. He's very stoic, until he gets to know you.
Trail Mater is the beast of all beasts! Great job.
Great vid. The great race down the flats was a bonus.
Good work, I dig all the winches on your rig, awesome!!
Rory has the beast great set up great to see Matt and Rory giving the best help available to the customer's awesome guys
The is a beautiful truck. Very well built for the work horse that it needs to be. Thank you for your time.
Hearing that exhaust bubble up under water reminded me of a time in Nevada that I went quad riding. I was in the mountains north of Elko just riding around, when I saw a spring. It was winter and it was cold. A spring will bubble up and then the water will flow down hill and then freeze. I went down and was having great fun spinning around on the smooth ice. That is, until I found the spring. The ice was only 1/2 'thick, and I fell through. The water was over the tires, and the exhaust was completely submerged. I was hopelessly stuck. I left the engine running and started to walk home. It was 4 miles. I came back with my Wife's quad and pulled my quad out. It was still running.
The sad part is that I had already bought a winch to put on my quad, I just had not got around to installing it. Yea, I installed it the next day. LOL Hind-sight is always 20/20!
Excellent recovery! This reminded me so much of early MORR videos. Matt was so camera shy and didn’t know what to say. ❤️👍👍👍👍👍😎
Dear Rory, I would say that you are "MacGyver of the recoveries", but also I saw your driving skill on rock trails so you really know how to control the vehicle and chose the path!
Did you see the video where Rory backed his rig up a trail incline that looked impossible to go up frontwards
Great video I got to your channel awhile back through Matts off road recovery and I really like it
Keep doing what you're doing Rory it's working
As usual, Great job Rory. Matt with the selfie filming, like a teenage tik tok video. 🤣
Gr8t job!! Love to see the teamwork with Matt’s off road to help people get out! Another awesome video!
That’s one awesome truck. Nice job!
I’ve forded the Muddy River at that location on numerous occasions, always on dual sport motorcycles. The tricky thing about that place is that the storms rearrange the sandy real-estate and as a result the fording is almost always different - sometimes in a completely different location - as last time you’ve crossed the river/stream.
Smart adventures carefully walk it first before committing to it.
But it’s easy to criticize when you’re not there.
Happy it worked out with no more trouble than it took.
Most the water that is in the muddy comes from water we pump out of the coal mines
That’s cool to know. Had no idea.
Trail Mater and Corvair racing each other made my day. Thank you! :)
There is something primal about Trail Mater. It looks, like it wasn't build, but Rory just found it in Moab hunting down the unfortunate driver and tamed it.
Matt:hates winches
Rory: has 6 winches
I think Rory has shown him how helpful a winch can , in Matt’s latest video he used the winch.
Matt's been using the winch a lot since he built the MORRvair.
@@Mick_A_Knuckle I was thinking I had seen it a few times, I had just watched one with him using it so I was sure of that one .
And a year later, Matt put 7 winches on his Monster Wrecker 😅
TRAIL MATER IS A TRUE BADASS, JUST LIKE MATT AND ALL THE REST OF YOUR GROUP!! JUST GREAT PEOPLE!!
Matt and the guys did an awesome job on that Morvair !
Matt's crew is a good bunch of guys .
Imao “give us an update” matt: “ that thing is stuck 🤣 yah don’t say?
Rory is impressive! Has a ton of skill behind the wheel and so much mechanical knowledge. Enjoy watching him do what he does!
Trail mater is the boss! I love how overly prepared you are too. I packed up my rig with all kinds of tools, parts and fluids for a cross country trip and my wife thought I was crazy. I don’t like being stranded and helpless! If you own, need it, but don’t have it; shame on you.
Good Job Rory , I need to send a thank you to Matt for putting me on to your channel !
Great title. Had to click as soon as I saw it.
Love that tire angle on the way out. 👍👍
This video shows once again that if you use your mind you can achieve a lot, and it's not about bigger and more power, but if this doesn't work then we'll try something else, until it works.
Another great job.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍 you saved the day! I enjoy seeing y’all collaborate!
Yeah, Matt you made the right call getting Rory in on his fishing trip! Good job getting it out!
running along side you buddy and revving up just running side by side you know we were all smiling!
You guys are awesome. Another great job Rory.
Great extraction, Rory! You’ve got an Uber capable setup there. I really enjoy your collaboration with Matt and Paul from FabRats! Next time I’m in Moab with the Jeep, I’ll have to look you up! My daughter-in-law is from Moab; her family owns and operates Worldwide River Expeditions. 😎
