    That water looks great so the filter must be doing a decent job. I would love a round pond as they look great and are supposed to be the best shape for water flow etc

    Hi
    Interesting and great video because im very close to getting the 90000 version for my pond,i was thinking of buying the kit which comes with the 20000 pump,i like the idea of the retro bottom drain too i think im going to go down this road after watching this 👍
    I love the idea of rigid pipe throughout because it looks a lot neater in the pond because i have a window on my pond and dont fancy flexi looping around and looking messy,my only concern is i also have a shelf in the pond so i would have 4 90 degree bends along the route from the bottom drain,do you think it would be ok to have 4 bends on route to the screenmatic?im just thinking it might disrupt the flow?sorry if this is a silly question but im a newbie to ponds 😂

    • @abkoi
      @abkoi  Год назад +1

      Hi Mark, thanks for watching and glad you liked 👍🏼
      The 90,000 is a proper beast of a filter. I thought of getting that one myself to be honest 👌🏼
      Yeah the 20,000 pump is what I have in my pond. If this helps, it pumps through 4 x 90 degree bends and I think about 4 x 45 degree bends (if I remember correctly). It also pumps vertically about 1m so I think you’re good there, it’s a powerful pump.
      100% get a retro bottom drain and try to stick to rigid pipe if you can. It’s much easier to “conceal” in my opinion. Can be ram into corners/along bottoms of pond walls etc. Also, get a retro bottom drain “low profile kit”, it keeps the pipework even more discreet.
      Hope this helps a little bit and again, thanks for watching 👍🏼

      And this is the bottom drain I use…
      www.eco-filtration.co.uk/product/aerated-rubber-membrane-weighted-suction-dome-retro-fit-bottom-drain/
      I personally haven’t had the air holes block but some people just get one of the long stiff bristle extendable brushes and clean them while in the pond every few months or so. Only takes a few minutes. I’ve not needed to do this but that’s how you get round it if it does 👍🏼

      Yeah still loving it to be honest. Easy to maintain and clean and does a great job.
      I think (personally) that the screens work as a great "pre filter" getting rid of the bigger waste items etc. So I would try and get one with a screen fitted if you could?

      @@abkoi My pond is about 2000 - 3000 Liters and after the great nieces and a couple of neighbors grandchildren brought their goldfish over that they were tired of equals 8 of various sizes 20cm to 6cm and 8 Rosie Reds and 2-3 frogs at any given time. Needless to say it is hard to keep clean and I don’t like my in pond filter which was a Tetra setup and about 15 years old. To difficult to get in or out of pond. Everybody is hearty and healthy. I am thinking with the heavy load the pond water gets from the fish and frogs an Oase filter like yours would probably work. Thank you for answering my comment.

    • @abkoi
      @abkoi  Год назад +2

      Great! Well in that case I would probably recommend the following filter then...
      worldofwater.com/oase-biosmart-set-18000/?gclid=CjwKCAjw8-OhBhB5EiwADyoY1Y4ySdqffiw5E1vlC8EfykPJtjDSbxDhWhr6OwL3ymt_pmou1wLubRoCwDoQAvD_BwE
      This would suit your pond perfectly. This set comes with a really good quality pump and 18w U.V too. The filter itself is a breeze to look after too. It works in a similar fashion to mine (although this does not have a screen). Can also be partially buried into the ground to hide it a little more if needs be. Plus nearly 50% off at the moment....that's a really competitive price for something that will last you for years to come.
      I think this would do your pond a great service 👍🏼

    • @abkoi
      @abkoi  Год назад +2

      Hi Eoin,
      Thanks very much mate, appreciate it 👍🏼
      The U.V itself actually has dials that you can turn to let more or less water through it. These filters like/prefer to be ran at full beans to be honest haha.
      I have everything cranked up to the max. Pump in the pond is a 20k per hour pump and the U.V is fully open to let as much of that through as possible.
      Obviously my pump is pumping vertically (by approx 1m) and round a few bends and 45s. So it’s probably not pushing at 20k per hour (but not far off).
      Long story short - if you are planning on buying this filter… run it flat out 👍🏼

    Question. I just got this filter yesterday. My control bar is set to the 3rd last hole. I see yours is way up front. Can you tell me what the differences are or why they give the option to move it so many different places? Theres lots of holes it can be adjusted to and they are confusing me lol

    • @abkoi
      @abkoi  Год назад +2

      Hi mate, sorry for slow reply I’m away with work at the moment. There is a balance to where you can set the bar. However, the closer you have it to the front, the more often it will automatically self clean. The more further away (or up the screen towards the blue collection tray) the less it will self clean.
      Hope that helps and good luck with your new filter 👍🏼

    I have a screenmatic 4000. I am unsure about what order the sponges should be in. I noticed each sponge has a plastic channel running underneath it and that’s how they all link up. There is a cap blocking the end of the channel on two of the sponges. Is this cap supposed to be at the back of the filter or at the front of the filter - near the outlet?

    Great video. Since I live in Sweden I need to build myself a winter storage for my fish in the basement. Maybe I will get a Screenmatic for my indoor filtration. Last year was the first year with a koi pond but at the end of a long cold Swedish winter, just before spring and the ice could thaw, the fish died, they where fine for months under the ice but something happened. So, disheartened we started again this year but this winter we will have the fish indoor during winter. My outdoor pond is 10.000 gallons. :) Question? What do you do if your pump give up? How do you get it out of the pond, looks built solid with piping?

      Hey Fredrik, thanks for the kind words.
      Yes I think a Screenmatic is a good option for you and I definitely think it’s a good idea to bring you koi indoors for winter 👍🏼
      I will be fitting a connector in the pond in case of a pump emergency. That way I will be able to lift out the whole bottom section and the bottom drain and then connect it back up again with ease 👌🏼👍🏼
      Thanks for watching and take care mate.

      Hi Matt,
      So my pond is 1000 gallon and I have 5 koi in there now (not sure I will add another or not). 3 feeds a day - obviously not at the moment.
      The filter is great mate I must say. I’ve had no issues with it at all and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
      However…
      I’ve just watched your “part 1 pond build plans” and it sounds like you are having a bottom drain fitted (unless your plans have changed?)
      If that’s the case, then unfortunately this filter on my pond wouldn’t work as it’s a pump fed only.
      Oase do a small drum though (the profi-clear premium compact - if memory serves) which may be an option for you?
      Hope this helps? 😊

    • @koicentralofficial
      @koicentralofficial Год назад +1

      @@abkoi yeah my plans have changed about 17 times since that first video 😅 I think I could still work it in if I put my pump after my bottom drain, as the pump would still be below water level even though it would be dry mounted. Then pump fed would be fine i think. I'm quite sure that would work what do you think?

    • @abkoi
      @abkoi  Год назад +1

      Mate anything is possible.
      I'm just thinking, would having the pump after your bottom drain mash up all the fish poo and waste as it goes back into the filter? Which in a way I suppose defeats the object of the bottom drain? Hope that makes sense, as it did in my head lol

    • @koicentralofficial
      @koicentralofficial Год назад +1

      @@abkoi I did want to originally go with gravity and a drum. But because of where my drainage is I would have to put a sump in my filter house which would be another big job. As I'm typing this I've just come up with a different idea 🤣 Thanks for your input Alex. 👍👍👍

    • @abkoi
      @abkoi  Год назад

      @@koicentralofficial Haha to be fair mate I’m pump fed because of garden layout and drainage. I too would have to incorporate a sump pump which is not something I wanted to do. I think even if I did go bigger to 2000 gallon I think I would stay pump fed.
      Mines a simple setup but it works.
      I’m not far from you (just on outskirts of Leicester) if you ever wanted to pop over and have a better look at the filter to help you make your mind up then you’re more than welcome 👍🏼
