You are live's savior, the usb accessories trick is neat, every other channel just about cable and I still can not connect my iphone to my piano, now its worked, thanks alot
Will my iPhone be able to give my midi keyboard power? That’s the only thing I don’t understand. I have Akai Mini and want to use off iPhone/iPad but don’t know if it’ll support its power needs. Thanks for all the help! Great video.
What about if I wanted to plug the sound from my iPhone into speakers while playing the keyboard? Bluetooth has a sound delay. Do you have a recommendation for this?
hi! I’m not familiar working with windows. but it should be a similar process. find the right adaptor to connect the keyboard to your windows device. (If it’s a phone, you’ll likely need to “allow usb access.”) then whichever mobile app or DAW you use should recognize your keyboard. for some DAWs you may need to go in the “setup” menu to enable a MIDI device.
@@imluvbyrd Thank you. I’ve subscribed to you. I’ve watched so many videos trying to solve this and was less than impressed with the posts that showed their personal know how without giving much useful information. You’re quite refreshing. Thanks.
Hey, thanks! I'm thinking of buying the BeatStep Pro, this knowledge is really good to know, I've only connected to GarageBand with MIDI over bluetooth.
Thanks so much for this!!! For some reason, plugging and playing MIDI on Garageband on an iPad just stopped working or has totally gone! Been searching online for about an hour and no real fix until I stumbled upon your tutorial video!!! The USB accessories connection on the Face ID and Passcode is crazy!!! So good!

Darn I really wish I had more to see from tutorials, they're very well thought out & extremely helpful! See I've been struggling to map my own Minilab mk2: the Midi Control Center Manual wasn't all that helpful either, only explaining very generic details. I wish there was a more in depth guide covering the entirety of the possible Mk2 configurations
Thank you for the video, but how d you use the knobs and the faders in Garageband. I can't seem to find any luck when adjusting knobs it hasn't worked for me till now...
Amazing tip with the Accessories toggle. But what about headphones, iPhone speaker just isn’t good enough for making music. Would you recommend any brand for reliable 3 way USB/lightning/headphone jack adapter?
Hello, thank you very much for your most useful videos. I’m looking for a midi controller portable keyboard that has dials and drum pads like the ones you have shown. However I’m looking for a keyboard which is easy to map set up whereupon I can use the dials to control parameters on GarageBand iOS and eventually logic Mac.When I say control parameters this includes, volumes panning et cetera. As GarageBand has on-board synthesiser plug-ins which to have dials, I’d like the advantage of being able to control the dials on the plug-in synthesisers using the on-board dials on the midi keyboard.
And here I am at one of your old content and guess what? I got a new iphone and looking to find out how to hook up my Arturia Minilab. And guess whose video I found? XD
Thanks so much for these instructions. For me, the pearl of information I was missing was how to enable iPad USB accessories in the Settings app. Once I did that I was in business!
Congratulations ! It is the first video that indicates that I do not need any other power source, to connect Minilab with iPad👍…Gracias ! buen trabajo 👏👏👏
I heard some people said there were issues with ios 14.5 or higher, can you say anything about that? Does the camera adapter still work? and is the midi keyboard iphone connection reliable enough for live performances?
I think FL Studio mobile is pretty popular, which is $15 if I remember correctly. I think there’s also Cubasis which is more expensive. and thank you so much! 💜
Hi there. Just a question. Midi keyboard will only play in this "playing" mode and not in "sequencer/recording mode"? Or am I doing something wrong. Reason I asking this, I use Garageband and Iphone for live playing ( :) ) and I would like to be able to select between different tracks (synths and sounds which I preset). Any suggestions?
Hey! I’m not sure which charging port the xr has. Is it the lightning? If so then you should get a Lighting to USB adaptor. If your device has a USB-C connection then get a USB-C to USB adaptor. Perhaps consider getting a 3 in 1 adaptor if you plan to use a USB mic simultaneously.
Hey luvbyrd please confirm....I have a psr1425 Yamaha piano..in which midi can be joined...SO TO DO THE WHOLE CONNECTION , I need the lightning adapter(camera) ,in which the lightning side(small) will be joined in the iPad and the midi cable will be joined to usb usb connection...and the midi port in the piano...Is that it ??? Monitor on will be there..ANYTHING ELSE
hey, not too familiar with this but the arpeggiator should be a setting you can turn on within garageband. when it’s turned on, notes triggered by the keyboard will be arpeggiated. so my guess is it should be a setting in the software, not hardware

@@imluvbyrd i see but I've an akai mini midi keyboard and it didn't response when I triggered in the software. make me a favor, can you try on your Arturia? :)
you use the lightning port for an adapter to 3.5 mm and that you can conect to speakers, you probably need another adapter to connect it to 3.5 mm. But that means you can not charge your iphone unless you connect it to a usb hub that is powered i guess....
My keyboard has only audio out not MIDI. I used a 1/4” to 3.5mm jack from the piano and plugged the other end of the 3.5mm cable into a Y splitter (mic and headphone) which is connected to the iPhone using lighting to audio cable. However in GarageBand I can only choose the audio recorder option not piano. If I choose piano and try to record as you show there is no audio ?
