When @ArturiaOfficial released Minilab 3 I thought it was just another MIDI keyboard with a sleeker look and better build. While that's true, what I didn't expect was how this would upgrade my workflow with DAW and Arturia software integration. Let me show you how in this video.

@@cigarbearreviews it's all good, great question. This MIDI keyboard does not have auto-tune(for that you'll want to download an auto-tune plugin). In fact the keyboard can't make sound on it's own unless you have something like Garageband running a virtual instrument through it.
So yeah, it can work with GarageBand, but once you load up an virtual instrument inside Garageband, then this MIDI keyboard will be able to start playing the instrument loaded up.

Question… if i turn the master bass of a preset completely down to -10 dB does that cut out all of the low frequencies or are they just not hearable anymore ? Sorry I’m a newb and would appreciate some help on this many thanks 🙏
Hey Onesto, thanks for the great review! One question I have is how well this would Integrate with native instruments VSTs and other third party instruments? As someone who wants to use both arturia and NI instruments, would this work as well as the M32 with komplete kontrol software? Been wondering this myself. Arturia list VST3 and NKS on their website for the M3, but that can mean a lot of different things in terms of setting it up fir a smooth workflow.
Yes, I just saw that Minilab 3 is listed as NKS on their site. So I decided to check out how much of that is true. In my testing, I couldn't find a way to get M3 to integrate as well as M32 from Native Instruments. In fact, what I only really found is that M3 is recognized by Komplete Kontrol plugin as a MIDI keyboard, which isn't that too big a deal.
I'm guessing that more NKS could be in the work? But that's just speculation.
So if you want max integration with NI plugins, then the M32 or other NI Komplete Kontrollers are the way to go.
And if you want max integration with Arturia products, Arturia controllers are the way to go.

Thanks for watching! I have not tried the Akai MPK Mini Plus. I have looked into it, but haven’t taken a closer look yet. So all I’ll say is that if you appreciate and like Arturia plugins than I think you’ll be really happy with the Minilab 3. The good news is that the Minilab 3 is very affordable. And if you buy it from a place like Amazon or Guitar Center, it’s pretty easy to return a product even if you don’t like it.

Do you know how to actually record from the controller keyboard to Ableton? I’m stuck on this step… I finally figured out how to record as you show about halfway through this video; however, when I playback in Ableton no sound comes out lol…

Great question. I have both of those keyboards and the quick answer is that I favor the M32. That's mostly because I want the few extra keys, I mostly use Native Instrument plugins, and lack of drum pads aren't a deal breaker to me. I also like the DAW workflow a little better on the M32.
However if you're someone who loves arturia plugins and software, then minilab integrates great with them. And of course if you really love drum pads then get the minilab 3.
The build quality is similar on both of them. Both keyboards are a great value. I think it really comes down to whether you use arturia or NI plugins, whether the 25 vs 32 keys is a big deal, and if drum pads are necessary for you.

I just bought this for my daughter. To start out can she use it with Garage band on her iPad? Or is there an ideal daw for iPad pro?
Great question. Your daughter is gonna love this! To start off with, I would just stick with Garage Band since it's free and very beginner friendly.

I am struggling between this and Novation Launchkey Mk3. I like launchkey's size - I can carry it wherever and whenever I want in a backpack in pair with a slim macbook, but I really hate its navigation integration with Live. What would you recommend?
That's a tough call. But I will mention that I haven't tried the Novation Launchkey. That's something I was considering to get to make a video about.
From first glance though, the Launchkey will be harder to fit in a bag. It's kind of big and squarish. Minilab measures at 14 inches x 8.7 inches x 2 inches. While Launchkey measure at 13 inch x 6.75 inch x 1.25 inch. I'd measure to see if it can fit in your backpack. If travel is important, than the launchkey wins in the long run because it's . However, Minilab3 really does have great DAW integration.
DAW integration is really important to me. It's something I use all the time, because it makes writing easier, faster, and more fun. Minilab 3 also has some good integration with Arturia products so to me that's another win.
If minilab 3 can fit in your bag I'd get that for because of it's great DAW integration. If it looks like it's gonna be touch to travel around with it, go ahead and look into the Launchkey and maybe try to memorize a few more Ableton hot keys/short cuts.

@@ThisIsOnesto Hi folks, LK owner here. The noticeable difference (as someone who strongly considered Minilab vs LK) is the speed and ease of DAW control. Personally, I think the DAW control of Ableton via Novation boards is unmatched. That said, where this sometimes falls down is that these boards are built around Session View, so that's an important consideration if you're not likely to use that in Ableton. Also, it's really easy to custom map stuff on the full size LKs. I have a set of controls called "NI mode" for controlling NI gear, which is nice to be able to set up. On the full-size LK's you can even map key commands (eg: up/down/enter) to the pads, so you don't spend so long mousing around. The LK Mini is more limited here, as it doesn't have as many features. I think a full size LK beats the Minilab, but the Minilab beats the LK Mini. What I really want to see is Arturia a) transfer this to a bigger form factor (eg: update the Keylab Essential to MK3) and b) integrate with NKS controls out of the gate. Only being able to control Arturia synths is a bit odd when the NKS standard format means you can control synths from multiple vendors in KK.

can you use it with an ipad m2?
You should be able to use Minilab 3 as a MIDI keyboard no problem. I'm not entirely though about the software integration. That track is something I made for the video haha, I was using a Shallou track as my reference. So if you liked what you heard, than I think you’ll be really into Shallou.

I just got mine. This thing is a disaster. The endless knobs can't be set to relative mode. Nothing but a holiday season cash grab. Returning it ASAP
what you choose after?
For anyone else having this issue, I found a fix that worked for me in Reaper. In MCC, change the min value to 63 and the max value to 64. It may require some tinkering in your DAW, but I was able to make it act like a relative control, even though it’s still hard coded to be absolute for some reason.
For anyone seeing this later on, Arturia added a relative mode in their latest firmware update, 1.1.

Only problem is it does NOT work in Logic whatsoever. Unless you MANUALLY add the control surface. EVERY. SINGLE. FREAKING. TIME.
