the male translator is horrible he omits lots of Spanish words especially phrases in Spanish. Translator seems to have trouble speaking English too. I understand the courts have a budget but lives are on the line.

Whoever you feel is at fault in this trial, Miu still lied as soon as he was detained.
He pretended he didn't know anything of what happened, and just said "I heard somebody got stabbed".
Doesn't sound like something somebody would say if they thought they were acting in self-defense.
The whole thing is a mess.
Regardless of what the teens did, I personally don't think anyone needed to lose their life over it.
Miu had quite a few opportunities to just walk away. And he shouldn't have grabbed the tubes / people to begin with.
1. You have the right to remain silent.
2. Remaining silent and/or lying afterwards doesn't change being encircled 13 to 1.
3. The teenagers ALSO had ample opportunity to leave the situation, yet they chose to incite more people to join and become violent. They were retaliating because he touched their tubes. They were not acting in self-defense after the defendant walked away.
And he had plenty of opportunity to approach the police, and never dead, guilty, guilty guilty

I guess this is what trials like this are about. Once the sentencing is announced, it could set a precedent for future similar incidents.
And for sure, the teens could have left things alone more, and not escalated the whole thing.

An incident like that had occurred and all that crazy commotion and nic’s large group left together and no one talked, said anything, asked nic questions or discussed what happened, what was going on and was silent the whole time leading to his arrest???? I find that super hard to believe.

Mrs. Mui claimed she saw Mui needed help and told Sergio and Ariel to go help. So that didn’t happen? Of course Mrs. Mui was too busy in her tube… looking at trees. The ONLY person I believe in this group is Mr. Williams, who actually went to help and saw what happened to the victims!
Why does the prosecution keep acting like people don't keep a pocket knives for protection

Difficult to do in a case like this. Lawyers need a lot of time to prepare cases and courts are often backlogged.

This case actually happened in a reasonable amount of time imo. A lot of cases can be 4 and 5 years before they get to trial. Sad but true.

Well stated. No matter what happens or what is declared illegal or legal. These young belligerents intoxicated people and adults are going to come to terms or be told that their behavior and actions caused the death of Issac.
Nobody in Nic's group said anything after the altercation? With blood on his hands, nobody asked if he was ok? Nobody asked what happened? Nobody talked at all, they just floated past the carnage and went about their day in silence? That doesn't add up. It seems almost like the rest of Nic's group was afraid of him. Wonder why...

Perhaps he washed his hands off before walking back to his party, however that would indicate he wasn't in fact in fear for his life, since he took time to stoop down and wash his hands in 7" deep river. Did he wash his hands after throwing the knife into the woods? Why did he lie to his friends and say they "took his knife from him"?

@@palace927 he had his ego hurt, reacted out of anger, charged the teen recording on his phone, put hands on them, then decided to pull his knife when he got pushed down by a teen boy, then stabbed a girl from behind, disemboweled another teen, and murdered a third, slowly walked away from the scene, ditched his weapon, calmly washed the blood off his hands, and attempted to sneak away. He never called for help, he never attempted to deescalate, he never called 911. And he never attempted to render aid or explain what happened to his "friends". They just floated down river in silence. That's not shock, that's guilt.
@@MattLockhartHe was looking for a lost phone. The teens were holding phones. So in Nicks mind it’s possible they had the phone hence him running towards their tube. As he’s running he trips and falling the water and drops his snorkel and that’s when you can see him now looking for his snorkel moving away from the group. The group then follows and surrounds him. This is a public space so if he dropped his snorkel and is looking for it he has all the right to be there. The teens didn’t have a right to surround this man and start beating him.

I don't understand why no one in his OWN group didn't try & help him or call for help. Sergio didn't get involved nor his sister nor Nikolae's wife when she saw him down in the water. If he looked like he might be in danger, why not find someone to help or call 911? And in the video, Sergio is to the left of Nikolae & at that point he could have left with Sergio. I could see if he pushed someone & attempted to get away, and they tried to restrain him & THEN he stabbed people in self defense. But he started off by blocking their tubes and going after the dude SITTING in his tube ...HE was the one who first made physical contact. Those kids had the same right to defend themselves too. They could have all gotten up & dogpiled him...they did NOT. They kept yelling for him to get out of there, away from them. But he stayed. Allegedly punched the girl in front of him & THEN the group reacted physically at that point. Why was he not yelling HELP!! Yelling LEAVE ME ALONE!! / LET ME GO!! Nothing. Just decides he was going to return to them & "teach them a lesson" by using his knife. He didn't just stab them in the arm or leg, but in an area near the heart...to KILL. He needs to be held responsible for that.

The guys friends with the guy he's not going to incriminate his friend.. Why didn't they go over when he saw his friend surrounded? The guy saw the girl with blood and Nick said they took his knife, and no one asked him about it..he just got dressed and they left like it was nothing..

Everyone was drinking and the incident was 4 mins total its was fast no one knew what was going on including miu who was in shock from surviving a mob attack! They asked him to bring the knife, they felt safe enough to ask him to bring the 🔪 . Everything in the video points to self defense

He was asked specifically at 40:47 if he was fearful of Miu or if he felt threatened and he answered with a vehement NO. It's common sense actually. You would not spend your free time with someone you are scared of.

The young men were having a great time making this situation as bad as possible. Even while knocking him down and hitting him they were having fun, until they saw that Miu was willing to go all the way to defend himself.

I believe he should be convicted of third-degree murder with the kid and attempted murder with the rest. If you look up third degree murder, it fits this scenario.
Miu has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide and four counts of first-degree intentional attempted homicide.

Are you trying to tell me that because a police or a district attorney has charged a person with first-degree murder that a jury cannot come back with a third degree conviction? You do know that I charge in a conviction is completely different right? He might even be not guilty of the first degree murder charge. The prosecution might have went too high of a charge in the beginning. First degree murder would have to prove intent from the beginning to murder somebody. He brought that knife to the lake and was using it throughout the day to do different things with it without the intention at that point to murder anybody.

Additionally when the Judge gives the Jury the Instructions the Judge will specifically tell the Jury what the “Elements” of the Crime are and what the Elements of the Lesser Included Offenses are and instruct the Jury if you can’t convict on this crime then look at these lesser included offenses in this specific order.

You can’t charge first-degree murder and somehow the jury comes up with third-degree murder. You have to charge second or third if you want either one of them. They only charged first-degree. Now they’re going to lose their case because there’s no way this was premeditated
I think he’s going to get convicted. These friends he was with are not helping his case. There was no reason for him to pursue this phone as hard as he did therefore no reason to be around the group of boys. He pulled the knife out before he hit that girl. Also everything Mui did following the incident makes him look guilty AF.

Just because someone hits the other person in a collision doesn't necessarily mean the person who did the hitting is automatically at fault. It could also mean the car in front stopped abruptly in traffic causing the collision. Does that make sense?

Can’t wait to hear what all the people, defending Miu, have to say about a member of his group seeing Miu touch Madison with aggression. Miu was the first to touch the boys by falling into their tubes and getting in their space, the kids calling him names isn’t illegal, Miu was the first to get physical after pushing/hitting a girl that he outweighs by 100lbs. Not 1st degree, but definitely second degree murder with a few attempted charges.
1st- he left returned armed and aggressively stopped flipped the tubes AND touched the boys. Just my opinion he was trying to escalate it, subtly!

Despite Nick allegedly able to speak four languages and knowledgeable of Latin etc seems he thought the best way to communicate with teenagers was to try and massacre them all with a knife, killing one of them, disembowelling another; inflicting life long injuries and trauma to many. What I see is a guy who's feelings were hurt when he was called some names. He was offended at the younger ones' free speech. He approaches them and touches their inner tubes. They call him some more names and laugh. A girl comes up to him and points for him to go away. His pride and feelings are being hurt and he already has his knife out. According to the witnesses, he assaults the girl. One person hits him back in her defense. The others start pushing him away. Is the pushing justified? Because they are pushing as opposed to striking, I believe they are trying to keep him separated from the girl. I believe once you assault someone rather than having simply walked away, that opens a whole new door. Even police will gang tackle you if you assault one of them.

That man wasn’t scared at all, he wasn’t in fear for his life, I wouldn’t be scared for my life in this situation but I wouldn’t be in this situation because an proper adult would of handled this differently. Nothing was hurt other than his pride, he’s smiling thought most of it, doesn’t try to get away at any point and walks away calmly after stabbing a bunch of people, then as far as I’m aware criminals tend to change their appearance after said crime to fool law enforcement.

AFTER NM punched a woman and stabbed five people, he was pushed away and was still told to leave.
This was never "self-defense". He wants to be the next KR (who will also end up on death row somewhere, eventually. Mark these words.) This case is located closer to "Common Sense Minnesota", so don't count on a KR verdict.

I don’t disagree that any of those people- from all three groups could have handled this differently and it would have had a different result. Glad you said it. Its something all of us want to know. Where I live in Central CA if you cant speak English and Spanish fluently you are virtually unemployable. Imagine not being able to get a job in your own country because you do not know how to speak a foreign language and all the folks coming in illegally do not come with interpreters and do not even care to try to learn English. So everyone has to hire bilingual people to accommodate the people who cant speak English and people like me either cant get work or are forced into self-employment. I have to say that I believe the stabbing of the boy who passed away was self-defense because the kid came after the guy and made the guy feel threatened. Well, every witness brought to the stand either helped or at least did not harm Mr. Miu’s case. A lot of trials are like this with “boring” and seemingly useless testimonies, but each small brick laid eventually makes a complete foundation.

I would bet anything that after he hit the women, if someone had punched him one time (in self defense) and had he fallen and hit his head on a rock ( leading to his death), then that person would be in jail for murder. Yet he may not serve jail time after lurking around teens and maming 5-6 of them. This man ( supposedly frail and old) walked up stream in water a long distance ( walking in water is hard and upstream is even harder), then ran up and lunged at kids, hit one, stabbed 5-6, killed 1, and then walked back to his group hundreds of feet away, got dressed, then tried to leave, clean the knife in water while walking back, toss the knife in the trail, then lie to cops (and his friends) and pretend he knew nothing about the incident. No frail old man does that. 1) 54 is middle aged and NOT old, 2) the cardiopulmonary endurance it takes to do all of that is huge and he did it just fine. So they can stop with the frail old man line. The teens had a suspicion about him being unsafe and they were right because of what happened which was 80% his fault. As the adult he should have known better. This man tried to leave the scene of a Friday the 13th movie. Defense needs to call a medical professional to testify as the fitness it takes to do all of this.

Even police will gang tackle a person the moment they strike one officer. The question is, are average citizens allowed to do this, as well? I believe the man's pride and feelings were hurt by the name calling and laughter. Instead of simply leaving, he stuck around and eventually struck a girl. Drunk young men and women started the entire event at / in the Apple River that day.
Mr Miu was on his own, well behaved, minding his own business, not disturbing anyone and looking for something with his goggles in shallow water. It was totally unnecessary to be confronted by drunk youths, who also unnecessarily started horrible name-calling and harrassment of Mr Miu. Soon gradually joined by equally drunk youths, the harassment continued and escalated.
Mr Miu did not bring a knife on that day, planning or hoping to injure, or kill, someone. It apears that the sport "tubing" requires knives for cutting ropes, etc. Like other people, Mr Miu was in possession of a knife for that purpose.
Mr Miu was a single person, being confronted and aggrevated by a group of very loud drunk people, also having knives in their possession.
It was, however, wrong swinging the knife, injuring people. On the other hand, If the drunk youth minded their own business and left Mr Miu alone to enjoy his day at the river, the entire horrible event would certainly have been avoided !!!!!!!!!!
The whole incident is a study in poor decision making on Nic’s part. He decided to show his group how alpha male he is by heading over to the group of whippersnappers and show them a thing or two! The defense is really putting forward memory problems, and Nic being in shock (fear). It would be nice to have an expert talk about trauma and the passing of time affecting memory - if it does. And after stabbing and killing people, do you look like you are in shock? Again, an expert talking about a person's look and behavior after committing a violent act. Why didn't Nic's friends and wife treat him for shock (first aid and comfort) rather than isolate him on their silent escape down the river. The defense is also making an argument of Nic having no means of escape and he had to knife them to get away. To the comment that the young people were privileged white Americans, a few were Asian and black privileged Americans. And he was in Romania and in the army - tough guy was frightened of the male and female teens and young adults, hmm. There’s no question in my mind that all of the behaviours of the young victims on that day were done in an instigatory manner which only escalated the situation. It was a matter of feeling comfortable as a result of having “power in numbers” giving you the impression that you are invincible. As a result they felt they had power over Nic and kept instigating and provoking (being inebriated at the time did not help either). Even behaviours that may seem as meant to descalate the situation come off as provocative. The instigators too should also feel culpable for the death of the young victim. The sad part is that he as well was a part of the instigation process. Sad situation all around!

It seems that most of Nic's friends are foreign immigrants. In my opinion, they didn't get involved because they didn't want to get in trouble. With that, I believe that Nic really didn't have enough time to divulge much information in addition to being in somewhat of a shock--that is how his body language comes off to me.
