My dad told me when i was young that some people will not take an ass kicking and if I had to fight to not to play around. Never push and shove or grandstand. Be deliberate. Kids today don't worry about consequences either.
Exactly I’m 21 I have seen this stuff first hand kids thought they see an easy victim notice how all the laughing stops when he get serious and pulls that knife out
Good point on the consequences.
@@connorlangston6421he walked up to them, not the other way around
@@ha-jd7wlI’m not real familiar with this case but he may have waked up to them looking to be friendly , then it turned nasty. He walked up to them isn’t a guaranteed disqualifier of self defense. If they ganged up on him as we’ve see in so many brutal fight videos he Would have a good reason to feel like he’d be killed especially in Water . Drowning him was a real concern .
@@jeffp862 they were already arguing with him before he approached. Dude is a psycho. He just waited for a moment he called claim "self defense" which is why he was hiding the knife and lying to police.
I gasped when he asked the police officer what was going on. That makes him look so guilty.

Listening to the officer reply to questions about odor reminded me of the differences between medical professionals and law enforcement. I'm an RN and many years ago I witnessed a man get hit by a car while crossing the street on his bike. It was bad. I stayed with him and did what I could to help him until the EMTs got there. The Sheriff, my home town, was standing over me watching. He said to me, "I smell alcohol do you?" I said no, I smell blood. I thought that was so odd.....I was focused on life, and he was focused on figuring out what happened. Well it turned out the he was very intoxicated.
Wow! That’s an interesting observation. I wouldn’t have considered how two different first responders ( one LE / one EMT ) would interpret the same situation
The alcohol smell is very strong in the blood of an intoxicated person, it also evaporates quickly so cops need to make an assumption in order to push for a rapid test. If they are very drunk and spilled out everywhere it stinks like alcohol worse than being in front of their breath. If it’s tested too late they may show as drunk
@@user-nf7ui7dz1z that wasn't the point....lol
Totally agree with R.N.
Interesting!
Leaving the scene that you're involved with, pretending you heard someone got stabbed, not calling 911 to say you were attacked and you defended yourself.
Innocent people take innocent actions as you mentioned above. Guilty people play dumb, can't recall, blame others, and minimise their actions.
You can’t read minds and don’t know why he said what he said.
But whatever he said or did after the fact does not change what actually happened.
"Hang around and confess to the cops."
Great legal advice there, Perry Mason.
@@andyhunter5869 really so those kids weren’t a bunch of liars. The defendant was antagonized the entire time. I don’t care what he did after. He hid a knife because he was scared. It doesn’t change what happened on the river.
Did he have a cell phone on his person? Do you know or just speculating? Do you decide before you have all the info whether or not he’s guilty?
Miu was not intoxicated. He was the adult in the group of teen boys. He should have, could have, walked away. A response to name calling or being shoved should not result in stabbing people. And then for Miu to pretend he is clueless as to the stabbings shows he's a sicko.
What video did you watch. They surrounded him and deliberately moved in between him and his group while yelling things designed to incite violence against him and then one of the females who was in his face yelling threats put her hands on him first which started the physical fight. Also the kid who got disemboweled put his hands around his throat to choke him (lethal force) then when he was on his knees shoved him face first into the water which the man had every reason to believe was an attempt to drown him (lethal force) so he was facing a mob of 13 who were physically attacking him and one used lethal force twice. He then had every right to use lethal force and he only stabbed those that hit him, no one that didn’t hit him got stabbed. Self defense all day.
I absolutely agree 👍
Yes this video tells all
@@jonnysalami692 where did you get all the extra info? None of that was in the video... im talking about the choking and pushing his face in the water
State acts like he did it because he was angry, not for self defense. We are allowed to be ANGRY at the people we are defending ourselves from. Heck yeah we are!
Except he lied afterward and there's no proof he feared for his life in the moment. Sad case.
How was there not 1 person in his group who didn’t demand he stay & face what he did. They all just walked to the exit? Bizarre.
Yea. Did they even know what he did?
@@melistasythe wife testified after the stabbing, no one in the group spoke. Apparently no one asked him and he didn't volunteer the info. I smell bullshit

I guess I have to believe from cops he did not appear intoxicated but adrenaline can sober you up real quick. He certainly was able to get rid of the knife exit the scene and have awareness enough to disguise himself. There was just something so off about him during the entire incident. Weird inappropriate staring and lunging at the tube instead of just leaving. Not trying to exaggerate but the comments that said he looks like a psychopath are not far off. The kids were total punks but this dude was off and had many other courses of action to take.
Can you imagine… just floating through a bloody river sipping on a beer? Everyone else and their mother stopped.
It was self defense being creepy is not a crime. He was strangled and outnumbered. Several people attacked him. They were causing him trouble. The moral of the story is mind your business .
Self defense? Guy got up and wasn't even bleeding .. yet he felt the need to not walk away .. but start stabbing people.. no, that's a crazy person .
What victim?
@@smoothassmoothit wasn't self-defense after he hit the girl and he had plenty of chances to leave and stuck around and at the beginning of the video he was actually walking away and when the kids started yelling he literally turns around and starts sprinting in the water and grabs her tubes and wouldn't let them leave SMH just like being creepy and it's not a crime yelling and being rude isn't a crime either it's called freedom of speech yeah those teams are being loud and obnoxious but that's what teenagers do. Any normal adult knows that and if they saw a bunch of loud teens and the average normal adult would just stay away from them and not even bother dealing with them SMH but Mr mui wanted a confrontation and that was obvious. And you keep saying he's outnumbered and being jumped and name one part in the video where more than one person is attacking him SMH every confrontation he had was a one-on-one situation most of the people were just there as bystanders there was only about three or four people that actually tried to push him away only one guy actually swung on him and that was only after he hit the girl. After that the other teams were trying to push him away because when he got back up he was trying to advance and go attack the other people in the group, and as they're trying to push him away he started stabbing them. Even the guy Tony got in the middle and try to break it up and told the teams to go one way and was telling the suspect to go the other way, and what does the suspect do, he stabs Tony twice Tony was literally trying to break it up and actually save him from anything happening to him and saving the teens from doing anything stupid. But go watch the video and tell me besides the first time he got punched by Dante because Dante was defending the girl, name another time where anyone actually swung a fist at him. If those teams really wanted to jump him and if it was 10 to 1 or 8 to 1:00 he would have never got up out that water he would have been out cold. It just shows the intent of the teams wasn't to hurt the guy, because they really wanted to hurt them they would have been Swinging with closed fist no one swung on him with a closed fist after that first initial strike from Dante. And like I said even after Dante hits him only about two or three other teams were trying to push him down and push him away and tell him to leave and none of them actually swung on him with a fist and like I said the rest of the teams were just there standing there as bystanders looking. Everyone trying to claim it was 10 to 1 and everyone was beating them up as laughable it's just funny how people make up stuff in their head when the video tells the truth and shows the truth
There were 13 attackers. They clearly started it. The attack began verbally. However, there are lots of things that show Miu was trying to hide his involvement. That said, it is crystal clear that the drunken young people began what was a completely unprovoked attack. That isn't in question. In fact Vang admitted he and his drunken buddies were bullying him. Isaac (the guy who died) quite literally grabbed Miu around the throat and choked him. It was a clearly aggressive act, and it's all on tape. There was absolutely no one from Miu's party there to help him. This has some sad echoes of the wrong driveway murder that just ended in a guilty verdict. I believe that he should be held accountable, but the individuals who initiated this confrontation should bear some of the legal responsibility here. Again, THEY STARTED IT. They attacked a man who was all alone, and escalated the attack into what we are dealing with today. Those little shits are going to get off, and this man, an engineer with a solid, good citizen type history, is probably going to spend the rest of his life in jail because he acted out of fear and someone died. Same as the wrong driveway killer who was sentenced to LWOP.
Calling him a paedophile was designed to incite others to join the mob and participate in their attempted murder of Miu
@@GrueTurtle how so? they weren't armed and he supposedly started the physical altercation
Ditching the knife and not voluntarily approaching police is definitely not a good look when claiming self defense.
Who cares, running from the cops is not a good look either but has nothing to do with why you ran. Fleeing isn’t murder .
Murderer crazy person
@@latentsea Well, apparently the jury will potentially care. That's what we're talking about right? That's why Peter mentioned it numerous times, because it will look bad to the jury. Personally I can see past it, but I'm not emotional by nature. It's just not what you would typically expect from someone claiming self defense. Evasion and hiding evidence always will tend to raise eyebrows. Acting like he didn't know what happened also looked bad. I still think he has a strong argument for self defense, but get a couple of emotional jurors who are swayed by the relative youth of the victims and the gruesome scars, and this stuff could very easily give them reasons to act on their feelings rather than follow the evidence. It doesn't take much if a juror wants to convict and is looking for a few bad facts to hang their hat on.
“I hear somebody Got stabbed” sir you penetrated 5 children with a blunt ultra Sharp object.
Stop the cap.
One of the cops said he looked like in trance…lying might be just a consequence of the threat that he perceived.
I have zero questions about his guilt. The video shows him rush at them, touch the tubes and the boys. He was told over and over to leave and just like the witnesses said, he said nothing and would not leave. The defense kept focusing on the girl getting punched like it did not happen. I clearly heard the yelling about hitting a woman in the video. He could have walked away and made it to the bank and walked in any direction that he needed to. He gutted people.
He could have started in a more friendly way. Like hey have you seen my phone?
I agree! The initial punch seems to be getting ignored!
@@demtronExactly! And Miu’s snarky response of “looking for little girls” when asked what he was doing was the spark that set off the confrontation.
HELP! THIS GUYS A PEDO! HES LOOKING FOR LITTLE GIRLS! -- now tell us you’re gonna walk away and let them post that video .. THE KIDS LIED THROUGH THEIR TEETH.. NOT GUILTY OF 1ST DEGREE MURDER.
The initial punch is getting ignored because it didn't happen. He says that he pushed her away because she was all up in his face screaming at him like a nutcase. Then she testifies and says she doesn't remember if she was punched or slapped and doesn't remember what side of her face he hit. If a grown man hits you in the face, you KNOW what side of the face he supposedly hit! It was 13 against 1 and clearly self defense. The man just had heart surgery and was in fear for his life, rightfully. Those teenagers were drunk and tormented this man. He did clearly try to leave and let them walk by, but they pushed him into the water and multiple people from the group physically assaulted him. He stabbed them in defense of himself. The teenagers wanted to be bullies and scream "pedophile" at a man with no information that he's actually a pedophile and video it for social media or "for the culture" as one of the idiots screamed over and over. THEY continued to escalate the situation and would not allow him to get away. THEY f-ed around and they found out. The fact that the state chose to overcharge him with 1st degree murder and 4 counts of attempted murder is CRAZY. I obviously believe it's self defense, but the most they could get is manslaughter. Ridiculous
Miu was pissed off and it wasn't because of the name calling and certainly not fear of the teens. His friend's lost phone was in a waterproof case. He went to look for it. I think he thought these teenagers found the phone and that's why he grabbed at their tubes and refused to leave. He was asked to leave over 20 times and stood there with his knife at his side. Thank God for the video.
🎯🎯🎯
They initiated contact with him. He did not have to leave. Who are they to order a man to leave a public space? They were drunk teens looking for drama, and they got what they asked for. This is a simple self defense case, and any sane human can see that. They were the threat, he was the victim.
Exactly right. Mui could’ve left but he was being antagonistic to the teens as well. He actually did leave at one point according to his NOW x-wife (?) No one wanted to get involved with his aggressive behaviour almost like they knew he does things like this. The teens asked many times for him to just leave and he didn’t. If you’re defending yourself that means you had no opportunity to leave. He’s guilty for being the instigator and 1st degree manslaughter
That could have been true initially, but once he was being attacked and yelled at, he could be in deep fear for his safety.
@@chrisgullett4332regardless of of a tone told him to leave if he was so scared he had multiple opportunities to leave. He provoked the kids and not one kid touched him once the Carlson group showed up
Mui is only claiming self-defense because he got caught. He was trying to get away and he dumped the weapon. If he was really in the right, he would have left the scene and contacted law enforcement because he knew he caused major damage. Instead he dumped the weapon and tried to escape. If he was in the right, he would call 911 and get help there right away, even if he had to leave the scene to be safe. I get that he might have to leave it to be safe. But the rest of his actions show he wasn't in any fashion going to take personal responsibility for his part in the fight.

Even Kyle Rittenhouse tried to turn himself in on the scene and the cops told him to disperse.
@darwinawardcommittee JUST STOP IT. Rittenhouse and Zimmerman are PROVEN racist pricks. Stop sympathizing with them getting away with murder.
Many people said Rittenhouse would be convicted of murder too yet he was found non guilty. Real Americans hate bullies like like these poorly brought up psycho "kids" at Apple River.
Rittenhouse was being attacked that’s a big difference.
This poorly brought up psycho with a knife should rot in prison.
If he thought he was in danger why not retreat?
Why would you move forward to the kids?
Nobody touched him until he hit an innocent lady.
Unless u had the intent to harm someone, these were kids being kids.
The fact that u blame the kids says a lot about you.
@bmichael8187 Kyle was actually running away. He wasn't just standing around and going towards danger. Kyle was running while ppl were chasing him and swinging at him. He only used his gun after he fell down. Had he been able to keep running, he wouldn't have shot the second ppl. The first guy was chasing Kyle too and Kyle ran at first until he got caught up in between parked cars and had nowhere to go. So this case is way different then Kyle's case. Kyle actually seemed like he was in real fear for his safety. Mr miu kept staying in the middle ofca group of ppl he claimed to be terrified of. And he pulled his knife out as the 3 females where yelling at him telling him to just leave. Miu had plenty if times to just go back to his group and ignore the loud mouths. We have freedom of speech in America so you can't get upset over ppl yelling and being rude etc. As long as they don't threaten you or stalk you and continue the behavior, there's not much you can do. So why let ppl get under your skin.

Why would he? He didn’t know the incident was filmed. All 13 people there were attacking him so him calling the police would have created a situation where every witness would lie and say he attacked unprovoked and it would just be him with no proof saying he was attacked first.
Your mind is a scary place.. if you were accused of stealing and you left the scene are you a thief? If you didn’t steal. Two separate incidents, use that noggin better
I’m a similar age to the defendant, I saw the video for the first time thinking the teens injured the man. The only person who terrified me from the beginning was the defendant, his entire body language was that of a guy just before a fight. It was the way he walked to the tubes, I would be shaking just seeing him. I think the teenagers were drunk and fearless which ignored his body language, but the only threat at that time was him.
They were literally scared. Did you not see them scatter when he came to their tubes? They were literally yelling to get attention from bystanders and they got it.
These were 100% soft little teenage boys. I've seen and have been apart of teenage groups that would've been real danger. We for sure wouldn't have let him walk up to us like that and we for sure wouldn't have let him up after the initial push. These were kids caught in the crossfire of a murderous old man and a group of adults fighting.

I'm much older than the defendant & a feeble old lady, and I totally agree. The defendant is the one who would have scared me.
I think the alcohol/marijuana consumed prevented the young people from seeing the danger coming thier way. All they saw was a lone old man in swim shorts on the river in the middle of the day.
He seems intensely focused on the group as he walks towards them, he doesn't appear to be looking for anyone in particular, he appears tense but confident as he approaches them, imo he show's no sign of being in fear for his life or anything else during that time
Who is the victim now? The person name calling and “bullying” (not touching, until female is hit) or the person (people) stabbed/killed? If this guy gets off free, this is setting a precedent that you can kill a person for verbally attacking you. If Nic would never have gotten his knife out, that teenager would be alive today. Nic might’ve only had a battery charge against him by the female he hit, not felony for murder.
Except people do get off EVERY day for egregious things they do to others. Then the media, judges, politicians and some of the public make the perp the victim. This isn’t setting any precedent when the precedent is set daily for criminals who get off with light punishments or no punishments for very egregious crimes.
there needs to be stiff laws about verbal attacks and bullying - these teens need to face charges themselves
I don't think he will get off
Isn't self defense negated by the fact that he was the instigator of the altercation? Yes, the boys shouted and laughed at him, but they were lying on their tubes several feet away from him, and he ran over to them, grabbing their tubes and not letting them leave. Regardless of how young and fit they were, at that point the original video shows him as the aggressor. I was told in my concealed carry class that if I start a fight then get jumped by the other person's friends, I can't use lethal force then claim self defense. I guess legally the question is, are words/laughter or physical contact considered the instigation?

Lying about his actions and trying to get away after the altercation? Troubling.
I agree on the appearance and that hurts with a jury.
That said enough innocent people have been prosecuted into jail or poverty I can see a some people wanting to just leave without notifying authorities and letting their conscience and an afterlife judge them. It’s not a majority, but it’s not a rare thing either.
*I completely agree with "rydplrs71".* And I will go further to say that in this day & age...it is better to leave quietly & risk being captured by the police..than to stay and say anything to the police. The police are only friends if you need them to stop an attack that is happening......once the attack is over, they become 'the enemy' as their goal is to take away the freedom & wealth of self sufficient people.
CASE IN POINT: Not one of these teens was arrested, although there is plenty of probable cause to arrest them for gang assault & murder. Yet this old disabled man is on trial, and the teens get to play victim like they were choir boys minding their own business when some pedophile raper just jumped them stabbing away.

This guy used a deadly weapon on several people and harmed them. He didn't give them a warning and he didn't just scratched skin. He most certainly knew what a knife can do to organs. Using it was his responsibility, his choice. So why not standing by his own actions? If using a deadly weapon for self defence was actionally necessary.
His actions afterward were in no way incriminating. Trauma, fear, etc.

Maybe he thought he was in the wrong or in shock but I have watched a couple of lawyers channels and they think this is self defense. He was attacked by multiple people and was in a very dangerous situation. He also has a heart condition. They could have killed him . They were taunting him making fun of him attacking him. They were pushing him in the water and he had lacerations on his back. He had no one to help him his group was too far away. You don't know until you are in that situation.
@@bettywillbrowsethat's not necessarily true. People get scared. They lie about all kinds of things. They may start thinking they could get in trouble regardless of self defense. It's not like it hasn't happen before where someone stands trial and has to fight for their freedom when they have a legit self defense claim so don't act like innocent people don't have reason to worry. Those kids did attack him. That's not debatable. It's on video. It is believable that he did feel he was in danger. I know I would feel that way if a crowd of people attacked me in the water. I'd probably be afraid of drowning but that's me. Maybe someone else would feel different, but it doesn't mean it would be an unreasonable belief, which is the standard. I just don't understand why people are incapable of having an open mind about this. Has anyone stopped to ask themselves WHY he would do this if he wasn't in fear? He didn't know them, had no history of violence and they were aggressively attacking him. It's reasonable to assume the guy did feel he was in danger. What's not reasonable is all those guys getting up on the stand claiming THEY felt in danger when there were multiple of them and they were the ones antagonistic toward HIM. Why is no one even considering that?
If he was so scared, why didn’t he leave instead of escalating the situation by staying and (allegedly) hitting the female? He had no duty to leave, but he should’ve and could’ve. In my opinion, that is more reasonable than what he did. The jury is going to have to answer: were the defendant’s actions reasonable? I don’t know. I think a reasonable person would remove themselves from the situation when 13 people are yelling at you to leave. I would be scared too, but I would leave. If I was in the jury, I would probably vote guilty as of now (remember, this is before the defenses case. My mind can and will change multiple times), especially because I do believe that he was the physical aggressor.
Hahaha!!! Staying around is now called escalating? So the people yelling threats and lies to incite a violent mob weren’t the ones escalating? Also it’s on video the female put hands on him first while in his face making threats (that’s called assault and battery). He also tried to leave but they surrounded him so he couldn’t safely because he was already assaulted. Also the kid who was disemboweled choked him (lethal force) and when the man was on his knees he shoved his head under water which the man had every reason to believe was an attempted drowning (also lethal force) and he was lunging at the man when he was stabbed. In addition case law says you can use lethal force when there is a disparagement in numbers and 13 v 1 certainly meets that. Also the only people who got stabbed where the ones hitting him and only got stabbed while advancing to him to hit him again. Self defense all day?
@@jonnysalami692 the female putting her hand on the defendant’s arm is not assault or battery in the state of Wisconsin. And when I say escalating, I mean physically escalating. If you think punching the woman is appropriate retaliation for her lightly putting her hand on his arm, I fear for those around you. And if it was the words and the screaming that was making the defendant afraid for his life, he should’ve and could’ve left. He’s the one that is claiming self defense. He’s going to need to answer why he didn’t leave if he was so scared. If his defense is “I was scared because they were calling me names” or “I punched the lady because she was screaming at me to leave and she touched my arm,” I suspect it won’t go well with the jury.

lncited by the original videographer Jawan Cockfield, the mob of drunk & high youths started screaming Mr. Miu was a raper and a pedophile with no evidence whatsoever. There were no little girls in the area & he certainly wasn’t having sex.
Please show me the evidence the woman from the Carlson party was slapped or punched. In her testimony she admits being “handsy” with the defendant.
It doesn’t seem you’ve closely followed the case or watched the videos. You didn’t see her shoving him? Why did she interject herself into the situation? “Defending the children?” The mob of drunk screaming 17 year olds who never appeared intimidated or asked for “help.” The young men admitted to drinking as well as smoking weed. The other party, a man, 4 females and two Carlson men in their 20s had also been drinking and joined the fracas. One of the Carlsons had a blood alcohol level of .118. Did you see AJ’s hands at the defendant’s throat?
This all didn’t happen because nasty words were said by the young people. It was the false accusations in the words that incited others to pile on. It’s still happening in the comment section. ✌🏽
It doesn’t seem you have seen and heard the cell phone video.
The original videographer, Jawan Cockfield, screamed Mr. Miu was a raper looking for little girls etc. when he was simply wading & snorkeling on the edge of the creek looking for his friend’s lost phone. These crude lies then became the war cry of the other 5 drunk and stoned 17 year old young men. There is NO evidence they felt victimized & asked for “help.” The Carlson party heard the melee & stopped to “see what was going on” according to the testimony of the admittedly stoned & drunk woman Rhylie. Four women, a man and the Carlson dudes interjected themselves and then everyone went into the scrum because of the exaggeration or flat out lie about Mr. Miu “punching a woman in the face.” 😢
@@Grammichal I’ve seen the video probably 10 times, and it does seem like the defendant made physical contact with the woman, which understandably caused her friends to jump in. The defense isn’t even really denying that he struck her in some way, but they are minimizing it and putting the blame on others, which is their job. Who to believe is up to the jury. What we think doesn’t matter in the slightest. In terms of teens yelling things at him, they’re dumb immature drunk high teens. In my opinion, that’s more of a reason why he should’ve just walked away. He’s the adult in the situation, and he’s the one who walked up to them. If they tell him multiple times to leave them alone, just leave them alone. All the blonde lady was screaming was leave them alone, and he still doesn’t leave them alone. If he’s scared that they’re yelling at him to leave, and he chooses not to leave (and strikes the lady), and then lies about everything after, his self defense claim is very weak imo.

Please note what the Fish and Wildlife Service does to aggressive bears in recreation areas. No head scratching about the size of a stick that may have been used to instigate said bear. No details matter. A bear who opens up 5 people and kills one would instantly start a shoot to kill bear hunt. Maybe there is a better analogy.
There has got to be a bearter analogy
He's not going to be able to overcome the LIE. If it was self-defense there's no need to throw your knife away and there's no need not to tell the cops. They didn't hit him hard and they didn't try to drown him
Why would he? He didn’t know the incident was filmed. All 13 people there were attacking him so him calling the police would have created a situation where every witness would lie and say he attacked unprovoked and it would just be him with no proof saying he was attacked first.

The fact that Nic didn’t display the blade as a warning, lied to police, left the scene, and threw away the weapon doesn’t make it self defense. He came into the kids’ space hitting the tubes and not announcing what he was doing. The kids saying pedo remarks is not attacking him, He made the first move.
Nic left the scene, ditched the knife, lied to police about his involvement, lied he didn't have a knife. Lies, lies, lies -- all on video and body cams. Claims self-defense
I think the same thing. He was in their space, he refused to acknowledge they were upset with him, one for being in among their tubes, aggressive behavior first, left and came back among their group again, passive aggressive behavior. He by his actions initiated the confrontation. His expression and actions do not look like he was in fear for his safety. He had a heart surgery a few years prior also, he should not have been drinking and instigating confrontation with a group of young adults. He was wrong. But he will get sympathy
Honestly I will be disappointed if he gets found guilty. Do I think this kid “deserved” to die? No. Do I think anyone “deserved” to get stabbed? No. I do however think he was reasonable to fear for his life in that specific moment due to the fact he was out numbered by an angry mob of drunk, wanna be tough, loud and violent young adults who not only verbally assaulted, psychologically blackmailed but also physically attacked Mr. Mui as a gang 13 to 1. He had been submerged under water more than once. What happened after was clearly a trauma response. Disassociation is not unreasonable especially considering this man is not a psychopath, he has no desire in that moment to collect a trophy for his kill let alone be associated with something that was clearly violent beyond anything he’s ever experienced in life before and traumatic beyond belief. He did not resist arrest and I don’t think anyone in his position would want to be associated with murdering anyone not only because it would interfere with his freedom but because psychologically after the threat has been neutralized and policemen are present safety might allow logic to seep in. At that moment he might struggle internally with his decision making in a moment of fight or flight. After the fact he might realize he had other options and feel a reasonable amount of guilt and shame for what he didn’t premeditate and ultimately felt he had no choice to do. Does he even understand why he did it? How can he expect anyone else to understand why he did what he did in a moment of survival instinct. Not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

That man needs to kick it up to a higher Court.
And again. People should not be drinking until they are drunk. Teens should not be drinking alcohol and smoking pot. And people need to keep their mouths to themselves. HOWEVER, it was only a verbal altercation until Mui hit a woman. The teens didn't even attack him after he attacked them (rushing and grabbing their raft and body parts). They told him to leave. They summoned some adults to help them get him to leave. And really, it was on Mui to just walk away back to his group, wait for the people to float down the river, and then return to the scene to look for stuff. If he really felt petty, call the cops and tell them there are underage drinkers on the river.
There's plenty of footage and evidence to show his aggression was out of feeling threatened, in fear of his life. There's also evidence to suggest that whatever contact he made on the girl was in response to her putting her hands on him, while her physical safety was bolstered by the immediate, near and far individual members of the two groups actively combining into a raging mob. Is he gonna run away? You saw him trip in the water while approaching the boys in the first video. You can say that first approach was him initiating aggression.. OK, if so that ended when he tripped and then focused on finding his goggles. At some point after he even walks away from them towards the girl, trying to talk to her calmly. But it never stopped escalating, the yelling and taunting grew louder as the group grew bigger. More people walked up to him, and all while the boys were yelling to everyone that he was a predator.
First physical contact seems more likely to be one or both of those two girls. They start pushing at him in the moments BEFORE his first hit at the girl. It's reasonable he feared for his life in that moment.
His flight or flight was triggered... he thinks he can't otrun them, the group members are obviously more physically fit. The water makes him even slower. The rocky bottom makes him more likely to slip. There are people from farther away paying attention now and everyone seems to automatically go against him. The people hitting him during the physical altercation out of aggression not fear.
The phone wasn't even important according to his friends. They told him they didn't want anyone to bother looking for it since it would be covered by insurance anyway.
Snorkel guy’s friends were within shouting distance. Snorkel guy had many opportunities to leave. He was standing in maybe 2 feet of water, probably less. It was the 😮equivalent of standing in a puddle. Snorkel guy could have retreated at any time. Instead h😅e chose to punch a woman. A man that is comfortable punching a woman is an abusive man. Whatever disabilities snorkel guy claims are irrelevant in this case. Snorkel guy had the ability to walk over so he had the ability to walk back. Snorkel guys group of buds absolutely knew what had happened because the black friend had assisted with the wounded before returning to the snorkel guy group. The black friend called 911 I believe he said three times and helped direct emergency workers to the scene. There is no way that the snorkel group was unaware of what happened.
And a woman who is ok punching a man is an abusive woman. The evidence showed she put hands on him first while in his face making threats. The fact you think a man defending himself against a violent women makes a man abusive just shows your sexism.
Also he tried walking back but the violent females looked and saw his group them moved themselves and others to get in between them.

They didn’t do anything to him until he hit the blonde and I do think he hit the blonde because they all reacted at the same time. You see the blonde girl turn around in awe and then he get pushed down.
He also pulled the knife out before he got pushed in the water which shows intent hence first degree! He also slashed the one girl with her back towards him.
I know every dependent has a right to a fair trial and they will use self defense but any of us with a brain know this was murder , aggravated assault and attempted murder.

@@SmifNWessunyou are correct, I can’t believe so many people in the comments want this guy to be released to the general public so we have to randomly encounter him. Some people have no critical thinking skills.
When I first watched the video I could understand how some might see how totally ridiculous these kids were being to this man. Even after trying to walk away but then he just kept on stabbing everybody and disguised himself and totally lied about everything. It definitely changed my entire view of any chance of his innocence.
He didn’t disguise himself he put on the cloths he showed up in back on. Also why would he call the police when he didn’t know the incident was being filmed. That would have just created a situation where there were 13 people all lying against him and he would have no proof.
I see what you’re saying. But putting myself in HIS shoes - what happens if you stab one person in self defense? You think the rest of the group isn’t going to retaliate? I can see him trying to stab his way to safety - he just wanted to get out of danger. Being surrounded by an angry mob would be terrifying to me.

What a polarizing case. I’m fascinated by how many people have already made up their minds based on a confusing video that did not catch the entire incident. Let’s wait until we have all evidence, from both sides, plus jury instructions, before we either convict or acquit him in our minds.
I completely agree. The video was disturbing to watch and I did not like the behaviour of the youths that was intimidating. However, the defendants reaction resulted in serious injury and the death of a young man. The video has to be considered in the context of the rest of the case. No-one at the river that day from what I have seen (barring those who tried to provide medical aid, such as the nurse who did CPR) seem to have behaved well that day. Very few "adults" seemed to be present to difuse the situation. But at the same time such brutal injuries and the loss of life does not seem justified. I agree that all the evidence has to be considered though before anyone can really form a conclusive opinion of guilt or innocence.
I find it really strange that people are jumping on "guilty" or "not guilty" right off the bat...so much emotion in the comments. I think this guy may walk, it isn't based on my feelings, rather that the defense has put up a good case for mob mentality and fear for safety...which might be enough to get him out of a 1st degree murder charge and he walks. He may indeed be guilty of 2nd dgr Murder but that isn't what he is charged with.
Agree.
i’ll be very surprised if my mind changes after seeing/hearing all of the evidence… guilty af

Watch the whole video first
Some of these comments show clearly they have not seen the full video, and slide by slide in each scene whats happening.
The most telling part of that video to me is right after the women come over, you see Miu touching his pocket where he had his knife and smiling!! If he were afraid at that point, he certainly did not look like it... and this was after all the boys were standing around, and after the other adults had walked over... so if he was so scared of the "mob of people" around him, he certainly did not look it... instead he stood with that smile, eerily looking around at the group of ppl asking him to walk away, touching his pocket to make sure he knew exactly where his knife was.... that doesnt look like a scared man to me... and the LAST thing you would do if you were afraid of a bunch of people around you, is punch of woman in the face!!! That looked like man that was looking for a fight, waiting for a reason to take out that knife... and thats exactly what he did.... started a fight and took out that knife..... ill be shocked if a jury sees it any other way!!
I really hope the prosecution highlights that part. I was on the fence until I noticed that too.
Agreed! He got his knife out and I think he hit the blonde woman, Madison, to incite them to violence.
Yes, I noticed him touching the knife and smiling. He also ran up and held onto their tubes and blocked them. He would not leave. He came back to purposefully escalate. And came back with the knife and had ut at the ready.
He literally got a knife out before anyone had touched him WHEN those women came over. He had it in his hand.. he wasnt just touching his pocket. It was out. This was before he allegedly hit the woman. Or anything physical happened. You can see the knife clearly in his hand from several screenshots in the video when the women are talking to him.
Everyone was telling him to go. But he didnt.. and stayed and got a knife out.
Those are the actions of someone who wants to fight... Not leave
But what about the part where they hit him and drag him down in the water? Did y'all see that or are there multiple videos going around that are edited because I've seen him get assaulted.
11:34 look at his reaction to being told he’s under arrest for homicide and attempted homicide. Zero expression. Dead behind the eyes. He knows what he did.
So you basically saying "he looks guilty" - it proves nothing.
@@benfrese3573 No, what I’m saying is it hurts his self defense claim.
I would bet anything that after he hit the women, if someone had punched him one time (in self defense) and had he fallen and hit his head on a rock ( leading to his death), then that person would be in jail for murder. Yet he may not serve jail time after lurking around teens and maming 5-6 of them. This man ( supposedly frail and old) walked up stream in water a long distance ( walking in water is hard and upstream is even harder), then ran up and lunged at kids, hit one, stabbed 5-6, killed 1, and then walked back to his group hundreds of feet away, got dressed, then tried to leave, clean the knife in water while walking back, toss the knife in the trail, then lie to cops (and his friends) and pretend he knew nothing about the incident. No frail old man does that. 1) 54 is middle aged and NOT old, 2) the cardiopulmonary endurance it takes to do all of that is huge and he did it just fine. So they can stop with the frail old man line. The teens had a suspicion about him being unsafe and they were right because of what happened which was 80% his fault. As the adult he should have known better. This man tried to leave the scene of a Friday the 13th movie. Defense needs to call a medical professional to testify as the fitness it takes to do all of this.

It doesn’t seem you have seen and heard the cell phone video.
The original videographer, Jawan Cockfield (your “black man”), screamed Mr. Miu was a raper looking for little girls etc. when he was simply looking for his friend’s lost phone on the edge of the creek.

13 v 1 means you can use lethal force. Also the kid who was disemboweled choked him which is lethal force. So he was being assaulted first by the female then the whole group of 13 and then one of the group use lethal force. He also only stabbed those that hit him and only when they advanced to hit him.
They called him a pedo, then is guttin’ words in the big house

There are several videos and all of the events leading up to the one that shows the stabbings show the complete opposite. He approached them, he tried to pull two of the boys off their tubes where they were floating at a distance, he approached the girls and everyone told him to leave. Then he came back with a knife, killed people, ran off, changed clothes, ditched the weapon and acted like he had no idea what happened.

@darrinhaskell6068 They claim they didn't know he stabbed anyone. I learned more after I made that comment.
I didn't know he had tossed the knife and acted like nothing happened when he got over to them. But, BUT, they heard commotion. The one friend also walked over and was much closer neat the end. They saw that some people were in some kind of situation. They heard the yelling and screaming afterwards. They weren't too far away to understand there was a huge problem. So, normal people would have been asking him questions and talking about it.
It's all very odd. I have just begun watching Day 3 and watch gradually.
But, they saw police, EMS and he knew he hurt people because he washed blood off his hand and tossed knife. So, no matter what, he evaded LEO and had zero intentions of telling them he was involved. He definitely was trying to leave unnoticed. People are saying he simply put his shirt back on. OK, I can accept that. Maybe he wasn't trying to disguise himself. I truly think he is mentally ill, not just for stabbing. I think he might have a personality disorder, possibly undiagnosed up to that day. Maybe he was diagnosed afterwards. There is just something about this guy going over where this group of kids were that bothers me. The person who lost the phone said to forget about it because insurance would cover it, yet he goes over there anyway. I have issues with people who don’t respect boundaries with others. This day an age, it is not strange for those teenagers to feel like he was being a creeper. The man should have just walked away, but he didn’t, he had a very strange look on his face and kept hanging around…..he should’ve walked away….but he didn’t. Instead he stabbed teenagers.
Exactly, people talk about the lack of respect of the victims, but Miu was totally inappropriate and lacked respect for lunging at these teens, grabbing their tubes, blocking their way and never explaining, except he’s looking for little girls. He had a smirk on his face as the 20 something’s approached him. He totally disrespected these people and was looking for an altercation.
And he left once and came back! He lunged at those two kids and grabbed at their tubes/legs. THEY were freaked out, stood up and asked him wtf he was doing. He just looked at them silently like he was on drugs. Then, refused to leave. Scared, my as$.

He was hit, pushed in the water, shoved, choked, harassed. You can't really say what he felt like. Plus he had quadruple bypass heart surgery only two years prior.
Thanks again Peter for covering this.
Ditto!
In a nutshell (so far):
Someone in his group lost their phone. He went to look for it. Minding his own business.
The intoxicated- high teen adults saw him alone and went after him. We walked away, but turned back around and confronted them when his snorkel fell. He tried to retrieve it. Rather than helping him, they taunted him, calling him a raper and pedo while filming him. They got no reaction, so they did not fear him, but laughed and called him weird and summoned the mob over for back up, blocked his path and "laid him out" while laughing.
Chapter two: The respectful teens left their tubes to help him look for the phone and gave his snorkel back. They apologized for calling him names, took a group photo, and friended him on facebook after seeing him as a human being in need of help rather than an "other" (as we all do, right?) and they all get back in their innertubes and everyone gets home alive and decide that being sh!tfaced and mean will ruin lives.
End of story....it was all a dream. People are cruel. They assaulted him and bullied him, pushed him, called him names, took videos rather than helped him and they probably could have killed him by hitting his head on the rocks in the river. But instead, he stopped them by pulling a knife. They backed off. Lots of lies... lots of drugs and alcohol...and one life lost.
Is it worth it? Would you let your "children" act this way and defend them? I would not. Are the parents liable? Maybe they should be.
Self Defense. Not intentional.
There is still a lot of testimony to hear. He will get his say. I'm not convinced either way yet.

You are dreaming if you think he showed any fear in the video. It was a nightmare for the loudmouth teenagers who did not show any physical aggression until Mr Macho man hit a woman. The whole situation was initiated by Mr. Mui, he was the first to approach them, he was the first to use violence and he was supposed to be the adult in this situation. He is guilty.
Misinformation and false claims!
Amen ❤ so glad to see and hear that you’re looking at this in a realistic viewpoint too! I feel the same way! Also one must remember nobody knows anything about another stranger out in a public space or what they may have been through in their past, medical issues, etc… everyone should just respect one another, act appropriately and make better decisions so things like this don’t happen again.
Ok, but with your own words “I understand he was surrounded, hit pushed. punched, in the water… out of shape, facing a bunch of fit people, fearing for his life”

What made him walk over and grab their inner tube and not let them go? When he said he was looking for his cell phone I think some of the kids thought he said he was looking for little girls. He was trying to get away with this he knew he was guilty he knew it wasn't self-defense then when he found out the whole thing was videotaped that's when he came up with the self-defense thing

Having lived in Wisconsin, I have tubed the Apple River before, (as a teen, and now as a way older adult,) and I am also well aware of this type of person. Who wears camo and brings a knife to go tubing? Only someone who is already ready for a fight. This whole area is full of MAGA preppers, scared of their own shadow and convinced everyone is out to get them. He can cry self-defense all he wants, but the facts are clear. He pursued the teens, refused to communicate what he was doing, tried to flip their tubes, drew “first blood” (punching the girl in the face), stabbed people that were not being aggressive toward him, and then tried to lie about the whole thing to police. The guy is guilty as heck!
First dude literally moved forward into the knife ...
I share your view on MAGA preppers; we have our share of them next door in MN too. However, if you lived in WI, then you know how common it is for guys to wear camo. It was just a button down shirt, not full hunting or military gear. If you've tubed the Apple, then surely you've seen people cutting the rope or twine off their rafts. Nobody wants to stay after the fun is over just to untie dozens of knots with their fingernails. I sense a little bit of ingenuousness there. I started out thinking he was 100% guilty, but the more I see of the trial, the less sure I am. I'm trying to withhold judgement til the end of the trial, but it looks to me like they overcharged.
