"Echidna's arf" is one of the most accomplished and fantastically written songs in the history of pop music, God bless Frank's soul ,you will always be remembered Frankie.
No matter how many times I listen to this, it is always fresh and amazing. Please, for those who can, expose young people to Frank's music. It is important.
Frank never looked as happy as when he played this song. Pure poetry, this was his pinnacle, his most inspired time in my opinion. Great job Dweez, he loved you so much man...
I saw a show from the tour in Florida featuring Terry Bozzio, Steve Vai and Napoleon Murphy Brock. Many people, including my band buddy, knew nothing of Frank Zappa but came to see the guitar god Steve Vai. During Vai's showcase the audience stood up with their lighters in the air, an entirely different concert. It was like trying to admire a beautiful and majestic giant red star with a tiny white dwarf dazzling your eyes and blocking the view. Terry Bozzio had a similar following, many of which seemed to be entirely unaware of Zappa. When my band buddy said, who cares about some old dead guys music? I nearly slugged him.
absolutely amazing musicianship! I recall that Mr. Zappa (ha!) co produced one of his orchestral pieces with Twyla Tharp providing choreography and dancers in Berkeley. Maybe 1983? Anyway, Mssr. Zappa was not pleased with the dancers and made it known. still, this sort of thing was where he seemed headed. I always find myself laughing out loud with joy when I hear this piece well played. take that, prog rock!
rfreud - saw this exact band play Louisville, Ky. Sat front row middle. Travers is awesome. The whole band is awesome. Everything they did was awesome...
Echidna's arf, a masterpiece of modern music , and frank would be so proud of these fantastic musicians playing it exactly the way he wrote it......awesome dweezil, your putting your dad's music back on the big stage where it belongs, kudos
Long live FZ music. And it's really nice to finally see a youtube music video without some a-holes arguing who is the best guitar player, and bashing someone for having different taste in art.
That string of lines in Echidna’s is one of the most challenging for any musician to play, ever. Thanks Dweezil for keeping the music alive! One question...Don’t you ever wash that thing?
that's cuz the new zappa wants it like that, even NMB himself said that he doesn't like zappas son because he doesn't understand the concepts of live performances differing from the record, which fz understood and made a point of. an example would be room service; that live performance was different literally every time
As father as son ,Dweezil Zappa gives an amazing performance of these 2 memorable songs from the incredible " Roxy and elsewhere "album ,despite the complexity of Zappa's music ZPZ bands gives an innovative rendition of the original tracks ,Zappa's music will always be remembered as a colourful mosaic of musical influences( Jazz,Blues,Classical,Modern classical.....etc).This music will be played, God willing ,into the long future ,because it's a solid creative build up that can't be easily washed away by new musical currents or trends ,Zappa is dead long live Zappa and ZPZ too in the person of the great Dweezil.
Ab So Lutely two of my favorite pieces of music ever! Thanks, Frank. Thanks, Dweez. And thanks to any- and everyone who has ever played on it, then and now!
A lineup with this much talent doesn’t come around often. I was lucky enough to see Frank a couple of times but haven’t seen Dweezil yet. Hopefully soon !
ZPZ is such a bright spot in music. Saw Frank once on his last tour but the Roxy years are my absolute fav. This is an incredible cover that sounds as timeless as ever. I've seen ZPZ multiple times and will see them every time I get a chance. Long live Frank and thank you Dweezil.
Tight as a tight thing that's very tight...... and boy that bass player is loving every moment !!! The Dweeze has really upped his game with this line up and I think FZ would be proud of where his son has taken his music !!
I have seen ZPZ a few times, and we are going to see them again in about 6 or 7 weeks. We initially saw this exact linup about 4-1/2 or 5 years ago, then saw most of the same musicians in late 2011 (Steve Vai was replaced by another guitarist, and Napoleon Murphy Brock was also replaced). This year, when we saw ZPZ in February, it was a slimmed-down lineup. Each time, they played "Echidna's Arf", and did a superb job! Can't wait to see ZPZ again next month!!!!
Dweezil even does the tucked finger picking style FZ used. I remember back in the day, Dweezil described FZs fingering as "the weirdest most twisted spider."
I ve got tears in my eyes. This Song ( roxy & elsewhere ) is one of the beauties i know. It keeps me thru bad times and give a Smile... thanx mr vai for the love for me. It's one of the beauties Song i ve heard. And i don't tell someone this fact: "For the love of god" is another Version of "sofa". Maybe you don't know it.... Hey, Folx: Help Planet Earth ! We MUST stop the global warming. If necessary, we should be louder !
Met Dweezil at the strictly commercial after-party at the Roundhouse in London a few months ago. What a gent! I've no idea how he manages to maintain his composure when surrounded by people with textbook FZ facial hair etc. It's like that Twilight Zone episode where everyone's got a pig face.
We've been doing exactly the same down here in Australia, third time was just last night at the palace in Melbourne for our third. Each time different songs and some players but this last set was amazing.
Napoleon Murphy Brock, Tom Fowler and Don Preston and others played this spring in Basel, in a small club ("Volkshaus"). Brock still looks awesome and has not lost his charisma... Don Preston at almost 80 years is still there! And Tom plucks tricky bass lines...
Amazing stuff. Just as good as the original, but different. Probably even pull off with second and third guitars instead of keyboards. A great interpretation of a great composer. "I don't know how they do it, but I guess they do..."
Yes, I first heard this song live in '74. I was so taken back that it was impossible to even listen to the radio for a week or two. That night, that song, was the BEST thing I had ever heard.
OrzelBialy616 - Name of the town is 'Sun Village', near the town Palmdale in the California desert. Frank grew up and went to high school in the town of Lancaster near there.
Palmdale and Lancaster are actual cities... Sun Village is pretty much a town, actually an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County and parts of it are within the city proper of Palmdale, just North of Palmdale Blvd. in the Antelope Valley.
I also saw this concert in Minneapolis, and the Zappa band was tighter and played better than RTF. I am also a big Return to Forever fan. Dweez has really turned it up a notch from the beginnings of the Zappa plays Zappa band.
Just the greatest ever..... Hands down
"Echidna's arf" is one of the most accomplished and fantastically written songs in the history of pop music, God bless Frank's soul ,you will always be remembered Frankie.
Probably my favorite Zappa song ever!.
Thank you Dweezil for keeping it alive for the world to experience.
No matter how many times I listen to this, it is always fresh and amazing. Please, for those who can, expose young people to Frank's music. It is important.
It's 9 years later! Have a listen : )
@@--pbrstreetgang-- 10! 😄 Go for it!
At 65, this is the only band i will travel to go see. period.
Franks absolute masterpiece
I've been listening to Frank since 1967 when I was 8 years old,I had lots of older siblings, this brings joy to my heart !
Great performances by everyone, but especially Napoleon Murphy Brock...this version of "Village of the Sun" is amazing...
"No description available" pretty much sums it up. No words can describe this collection of talent. Thank you Dweezil.
DK
Great performance of an incredibly sophisticated song. Man, Frank was such a towering genius. Bravo Dweezil and Co.
amazing performance i was lucky to see frank over 25 times
Frank never looked as happy as when he played this song. Pure poetry, this was his pinnacle, his most inspired time in my opinion. Great job Dweez, he loved you so much man...
A masterpiece his description of Palm Dale and Sun Village are perfect, Zappa grew up in Lancaster which is very close to those two cities
I saw a show from the tour in Florida featuring Terry Bozzio, Steve Vai and Napoleon Murphy Brock. this band is incredible!! Love this song. Thanks Dwezil.
This might just be the most fantastic thing I've ever heard.
What a band!!! Incredible good music and incedible musicians....
Rock royalty! Today's classical music. The more I listen to Zappa's more serious compositions and arrangements the more I know he was a genius.
The comedy ones are just as intense. Every composition is serious. Maybe it's the listener that doesn't realize it. hmmm?
absolutely amazing musicianship! I recall that Mr. Zappa (ha!) co produced one of his orchestral pieces with Twyla Tharp providing choreography and dancers in Berkeley. Maybe 1983? Anyway, Mssr. ZPZ with Napoleon and Vai, wow. Just excellent and tasteful from start to finish. Everyone is superb on this.
Saw the show live a few years ago, was amazing! Wherever FZ is now, he must be beaming with pride.. What absolute tunes these are..
Super tribute, for ever F.Zappa🎸Thanks for share.
What a treat it must have been to experience one of their live shows throughout the years.
How does anyone have the memory to memorize something like this? (Let alone 100 other songs like it.)
rfreud - saw this exact band play Louisville, Ky. Sat front row middle. Travers is awesome. The whole band is awesome. Everything they did was awesome...
How good does Napoleon Murphy Brock look..?
Faaark yeah! Yr killin' it man!!
Echidna's arf, a masterpiece of modern music , and frank would be so proud of these fantastic musicians playing it exactly the way he wrote it......awesome dweezil, your putting your dad's music back on the big stage where it belongs, kudos
Brock kills this! and oh- btw...ladies and gentleman, your backup guitar player this evening will be steven vai.
Makes sense though. Steve got his career start by playing in Zappa's band.
It's lovely. Saw Frank in UK on the 1988 tour and saw Dweezil last year, a birthday present from my daughter. Twas wonderful.
Just an amazing ensemble and arrangement. Outstanding performance. Frank's music was genius and grossly unappreciated.
Wow what a tribute from Dweezil Zappa outstanding!!!!!!
Beauty for your ears. I saw Dweez a few years back with this line up and basked in this track live. Love it. Cheers Dweez
Best Ode to Frank for sure. Awesome musicians.
Agree. One of my favorite's too. Love singing it in the car. Get some strange look's, but hey ....
And Sheila is a force man. Her and the drummer are holy shit....and the bass player is just awesome.
Long live FZ music.
And it's really nice to finally see a youtube music video without some a-holes arguing who is the best guitar player, and bashing someone for having different taste in art.
Top notch. Dad would be proud. Saw them in '06 with Brock, Vai, Bozzio, and company and again in '09 woth a new lineup. Both shows were amazing.
The bass player when arf begins
His name is Peter Griffin
i just love murphy brock everyone was great on this thanks steve vai!! and dweezle
That string of lines in Echidna’s is one of the most challenging for any musician to play, ever. Thanks Dweezil for keeping the music alive! One question...Don’t you ever wash that thing?
It's actually fucked how close this is to the record, even down to the neuonces of the original players!! 🤣
that's cuz the new zappa wants it like that, even NMB himself said that he doesn't like zappas son because he doesn't understand the concepts of live performances differing from the record, which fz understood and made a point of. an example would be room service; that live performance was different literally every time
It’s actually not that close to the original. Completely different actually. Sorry.
Let’s fucking fight about it.
dude it gives me chills from originally hearing the first time ever
so , YES to your question
cheer's from Tulsa

I still can't shake "Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?" from my internal playlist when Echinda's Arf ends!
Jesus, that was awesome.
Dweezil does it right. Very true to the original...
A lineup with this much talent doesn’t come around often. I was lucky enough to see Frank a couple of times but haven’t seen Dweezil yet. Hopefully soon !
GEIL!!!
In my opinion, this is Frank's best era. Dweez needs to tour the full early '70 gamut.
Is anyone else in love with Scheila Gonzalez? If so I will fight you in the Thunderdome for her love. Batman v Superman May 2016!!!
+Andersen Bjorn Get in the queue... :0)
she's so fine and talented. I know I would get my ass kicked in the Thunderdome, but holy shit she is devine.
Me, She can help me with life, living and keyboard playing

There will be queue.
Hi I'm Napoleon Murphy Brock and I'm the Indian of the group.

And Echidnas Arf helps my Brain to wake up
Saw you in Liverpool, mate.
The old fella would be proud.
Man I miss you Frank. Good job Dweezil.
Vai's fingerwork is remarkable, it's like a spider crawling all over that fretboard.
he was listed as " Stunt guitarist" on "Shut Up and Play Your Guitar"
Saw this in Boston in 2008, ama-zing.....dy-no-mite.....
Best medley on the universe.
since when could ringo drum?
Wow what a great version of one of my favorite songs. Thank You for posting it.
NMB, you are still awesome.
Dweezil even does the tucked finger picking style FZ used. I remember back in the day, Dweezil described FZs fingering as "the weirdest most twisted spider."
Even Johnny Franklin too!
Yeah!!! going to see Dweez and Co. for third time this summer in Rochester, NY.

Hey, Folx: Help Planet Earth ! We MUST stop the global warming. If necessary, we should be louder !
I demand that you buy the DVD - four hours of magical moments like this one!!!
Incredible ❤️✊❤️🔥🎶
Saw Frank twice and ZPZ twice. Amazing shows, all of them.
Damn, that was good!
Holy Mother!
We've been doing exactly the same down here in Australia, third time was just last night at the palace in Melbourne for our third. Each time different songs and some players but this last set was amazing.
Saw Dweezil on 9/10/17 Lowry Manchester. Exquisite x
Mestre Zappa.

One more thing. It's a bit slower here than the original. A little faster next time!!!!!

Frank Zappa was a musical genius!
His masterpiece
He can really wail.
Can't help but notice how Frank did sing well. Whoever tries can't get his ironic colored voice, so expressive !
Frank never sang this song , it was Ike Willis
😂😂
eyey , very caracterfull .
Isn't that Steve Vai on the white guitar?
Thx Maestro!!!!
Frank Lives!
Wtf that was insane
I also saw this concert in Minneapolis, and the Zappa band was tighter and played better than RTF. I am also a big Return to Forever fan. Dweez has really turned it up a notch from the beginnings of the Zappa plays Zappa band.
Shhh! She might sue you!
