Analogue gauges are more expensive to make than screens, they age better, fail less, and watches have proven that they are aesthetically more desirable than digital screens.

@@sam.raycars I was two days too late to order the pre-LCI 3 series, because the dealer made a mistake in the paperwork. Seriously bummed about this. I just ordered an LCI 330e and already know that that dashboard screen is going to irritate me. The headlights were also much nicer on the pre-LCI, with the little notch in them, though it's nice that they didn't go for the tiny daylight running lights that the pre-LCI had when you didn't pick the laserlights. I really miss the halo daylight running lights, it was so recognizably BMW, truly iconic. They should have kept the halo design and just updated it to look more modern. Its a matter of safety too. Not sure about you but I change my climate controls quite often when driving. In my Stinger it is so easy to do so. I barely have to take my eyes off the road. Touchscreens will look like junk in the future. Also worth noting is that the computers onboard will degrade too.
@@AutoTopnl You nailed it. A basic function like turning on heated seats shouldn't be a four-step process. With buttons you have both tactile feel and muscle memory. On a flat screen? Perhaps muscle memory - assuming the touch point is a decent size and you're not going over bumps while trying to activate the function, else you're going to take your eyes off the road. Certainly no tactile feel on a screen.
Thanks to your video I went to bmw to preorder the 340i LCI in tanzanite blue. I’ve had the car for almost 2 weeks now and love the way it looks and drives! Thank for you helping me choose my next car.
It’s funny how with the 3-series and 5-series alike, the basic roofline and side profile above the door sills has remained largely unchanged for 20 years or so. If you cover up the side of the car, only revealing the windows and roof, you can’t tell if the car is new, or 15 years old.
For heated seats, you can program a climate control rule such that the heated seats always turn on at a certain temperature threshold (on my car, I have it at 10 C), this eliminates needing to dig through the menu most days.
Still inferior to a manual button. In my Stinger heated and ventilated seats can be changed on the fly. Most of us don't want programs we want buttons that will last.
I wonder if they still have the 1-8 programmable buttons which can always be used to program the heated seats if you want so it's still one touch of a button. On a 2nd look I don't see the programmable buttons which is even a bigger loss for me than not having the heated seats button.

Agree with most of what you said apart from the gear lever. I thought it was less ugly and probably more comfortable than the previous lever to be seen still in the 5 series I think. No way my kids would allowed to clamber over that area. In the UK (lots of curvy country roads) frequently use the 'manual' side of the gear lever, because I don't like wheel mounted paddles in tight corners. I appreciate many 3 series buyers will rarely drive like that. Edit: oh I wondered if you noticed: brake pedal blocks 'kick-down' which annoys me. Otherwise you could use a 'virtual heel and toe' where a mid corner blip is interpreted as a change-down instruction while you still hadn't yet come off the brake almost like heel-and-toe in a manual. BMW's 'kick down' is sufficiently graduated this could have worked nicely. I hope it isn't an over-simplistic safety regulation. I know the brake must beat the throttle for safety in an automatic car, but it's possible to block throttle that adds thrust without blocking change down blip eg that can even be worked to engine braking.
Does the big screen obstruct the sight lines out of the car? I'm a fan of the traditional sculpted gage cluster housing and a screen melded into the dash where its unobtrusive. I drive with my seat as low as possible to keep my eyes in line with the road. Will this big screen ruin that?

Yes, the S Class has went with this design ethos, but so has the Hyundai Elantra (minus the curvature). What if the screens were separated and had the digital gauge cluster designed into a traditional dash while maintaining it's curvature?
