Bit of a spontaneous video from myself but I couldn't resist expressing my views on the new EV Ford capri! It's sent shockwaves through the automotive world and there have already been many mixed reviews.

@@Bob-_-Smith Actually I think Toyota are the worse at recognising the EV trends in Western Europe as most developing and third world countries are clearly going to need to rely on diesel energy for at least the next 50 years or more. Toyota has already pledged to continue manufacturing those vehicles ( I believe)..

Lets be honest, most of the people who would buy (rent on PCP finance) a new Capri, probably wouldnt even have a clue what the original one was.

I'm 65 years old and still have a capri . The new capri is a disaster another milk float
I'm buying another Capri soon I ve barely got 4 grand together but I'm buying a 1.6 or 2 litre so just one with MOT that runs .....I used to pick these up cheap so I'm gutted for not keeping one stored away but I'll definitely keep my next one

I’m not sure how they got from a sports coupe to a boring SUV and called it the same thing . Not for me just another hideous soulless modern car that unless you made an effort to check the badge out like so many others you wouldn’t have a clue what it was …I’m with you on this one Mitch 👍
My friend bought him self a JP special brand new back in 1976 he and a canvas sunroof fitted you would get a lot of people admiring it it cost £1600 back then
Having owned three capris in the past, I can honestly say this monstrosity has no resemblance to what a capri would look like if it had stayed in production and evolved over the years up to today. This model looks more like a modern day mustang. Fords designers haven’t got a fkn clue.

when my mates had capris i never for one moment thought hmm thats a nice looking SUV theres a really good reason fo that it wasnt one. it was a low slung shapely buget sports car. not a hippo with wheels thats eaten a whale and really needs a diet. Why do they do this a mini thats as bigger than a escort ( mini is supposed to be small hence the name mini). A fiat 500 that bigger than bmw.( again supposed to be tiny ) now a Capri i mean WTF
I believe a lot of the increase in car sizes over the last few years is to do with the NCAP safety ratings. The bigger the car, the bigger the crumple zones which help protect the occupants. So as you say, the small cars of today are still bigger than medium sized cars from 25 years ago. If in doubt, make it bigger.
Compare the arse-size of people today compared with the 70s and 80s... most people today couldn't get one leg in an original Mini!
I'm over the "everything must be an suv/ crossover" mentality these manufacturers have.

The Ford marketing team probably excited the sales teams with the prospect of a new ‘Capri’ then delivered yet another SUV - I can hear the collective sigh from the sales teams. At least the SUV sheeple will be happy.

The all electric Fiesta is due soon, the old production lines have been converted to all EV production now, ( same with the Focus and Mondeo production lines).
@@philtucker1224 I'd bet they ended production on the Fiesta just to make it an EV Sports SUV Crossover like this and the Puma, the same what they'll do with the Focus and Mondeo, then they will revive the other beloved Ford cars like the Anglia, Sierra, Escort, Granada, Cortina, Gran Torino and so on I bet, maybe revive the Mercury brand as an EV brand too, next will be Lincoln too, lol

As a kid I remember when the Capri was first launched, I was mad about cars (and still am) and the whole thing was so exciting. It seems to me that due to Government pressure, cars are fast becoming appliances, no more exciting than a dish washer. It’s so sad.
Great video. Ford Australia built a Ford Capri from 1989 to 1994. Was at the time accepted with mixed emotion mainly because of the small engine and it was front wheel drive and most Blokes down under didn't want a convertible as it wasn't thought to be giving the right impression unless you were a hair dresser. Some rare turbo versions are sought after today.
To be honest the new cars being designed and built are being built for the the new generations with new families so they are never going to appeal to people like us. They aren't interested in working on cars and just want something reliable and new to drive around in.

My third ever car was a Capri in 1973, also was my fourth fifth sixth seventh and eighth. ( my wife and me were hooked on them until we had our kids) great reclining seats! 😁👍

100 % agree with everything you said. It’s uninspiring, a giant battery on wheels. It has zero original Capri heritage. A couple of nods to the design of the original body. It’s pure marketing giving it that name. It has us all talking.
Any other name and it would have been released with very little attention from the press or public. ITS NOT A CAPRI!
Great content but the last original capri was the 280 Brooklands in 1988.....not 1986 as you state in the video.

@ 0.12, the original Ford Capri was built between 1961-1963 albeit a Consul Capri, even so this 'New' Capri doesn't resemble either type of Capri

Truth be told, those of us looking for a Capri that looks like the legend are going to hate it but, the target market is the youth with no memory of the original who are looking for a SUV.

I liked the original Mk1. Lovely boxy shape. Metallic Green or black vinyal roof and yellow body. C'mon rebuild as it was. zinc dipped and built with the necessary obligatory safety features. Oh and for good measure make it easy to fix and clean to drive. Agate is pronounced (Ah-gate). This is what you get with Text to sound software.
The only bit of a capri is the badge on the front 😂

Car companies often use previous model names, as they already have the rights to its marketing under that name.
I from Malta and a ford Capri is still considered an iconic sports car same like other Fords... May I ask who was the genius designer to turn this heritage into into an SUV??? Producing an SUV is ok but why replace it with a totally different design??? What a shame... BIG SHAME
It’s bad enough that they made the Capri an electric SUV but it’s also exceptionally bland looking. It’s a shame we’re living in a world now where less and less proper cars are coming out.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have owned such fun cars as the Mazda 6, Corsa VXR, Abarth 595 and currently a Fiesta ST3 mk 8 and it’s sad to think we are coming closer to the end of fun, roaring, petrol cars.
